Chapter 10: Let Xu Aozi Come

As Ling Yun turned and left the main hall, he naturally heard the conversation between Master Xueyue and Yan Shan.

“Flying Immortal Sect, huh? I didn’t expect this cycle of reincarnation to refresh that side quest,” Yun Xi said with a mischievous smile in her eyes.

In truth, not every event occurred in every cycle of reincarnation. The visit from the Flying Immortal Sect and Snow Moon Peak stepping forward to meet them was one such variable. While the Flying Immortal Sect’s visit was inevitable, who exactly would represent the sect during the exchange was not fixed.

Ling Yun remembered that among the disciples visiting from the Flying Immortal Sect this time, there was an extraordinary individual with a special physique known as the Flying Immortal Body. A person with such a body not only advanced rapidly in cultivation but also carried the will of flying immortals in every move, significantly enhancing their combat power.

In terms of sheer strength, within the Heavenly Dao Sect’s Origin Spirit Realm, only Lin Chuan—the Child of Destiny—could match this person in direct combat. Without some serious tricks, even Lin Chuan would struggle to defeat him.

“Do you still remember what you said that time—‘Let Xu Aozi come’?” Yun Xi clasped her hands behind her back, smiling playfully at Ling Yun.

“Stop! There’s no need to bring up that embarrassing dark history!” Ling Yun quickly waved his hands.

Xu Aozi was the Dao title Master Xueyue had given Ling Yun. For a long time, she referred to him by that title, and many in the Heavenly Dao Sect followed suit. Ling Yun always thought the name was awkward, but since it had been chosen by Master Xueyue, he had no choice but to accept it.

That phrase—”Let Xu Aozi come”—came from one of the past cycles.

In that cycle, the Flying Immortal Body had swept through numerous disciples of the Heavenly Dao Sect before openly challenging the three disciples of Snow Moon Peak, threatening to suppress their entire peak with his strength alone. Although Yan Shan and the others were also in the Origin Spirit Realm, they stood no chance against the Flying Immortal Body. Just as the three hesitated, a shout came from the crowd.

“Let Xu Aozi come!”

A figure suddenly appeared in front of them—it was Ling Yun, who had recently broken through to the Origin Spirit Realm. At the time, Ling Yun had been urging them to fully prepare for the Ten Sects Grand Competition and thus took the task of defending Snow Moon Peak’s dignity upon himself.

That battle was one of the most dangerous fights Ling Yun had ever faced in all cycles before the Ten Sects Grand Competition. The Flying Immortal Body truly lived up to its name—every strike infused with celestial intent that overwhelmed any normal Origin Spirit Realm cultivator.

To defeat this formidable foe, who had humiliated his fellow disciples, Ling Yun unleashed every trick he had. He used three forbidden techniques in succession, burning his cultivation, his foundation, and even his life flame, all to boost his strength and resist the Flying Immortal Intent.

Their clash nearly destroyed the entire arena, and it took several elders intervening at once just to stabilize it and prevent the shockwaves from harming others.

In the end, at great cost, Ling Yun overpowered the Flying Immortal Body, proving to everyone that the most untouchable figure in Snow Moon Peak was not someone to provoke. It didn’t matter if you messed with Ling Yun himself—but if you dared provoke his fellow disciples or Master Xueyue, the Chief Disciple of Snow Moon Peak would show you the price.

It was said that after that battle, the Flying Immortal Body developed a deep psychological shadow. From then on, he would immediately back away from any place associated with Snow Moon Peak.

When he was defeated, only Ling Yun remained standing on the stage, receiving countless looks of awe. But only he knew he was suppressing the backlash from the three forbidden arts and enduring unbearable injuries.

Before he left the stage, Ling Yun only said one sentence: “If anyone dares to challenge Snow Moon Peak again, I, Xu Aozi, will see it through to the end.”

Then he turned and vanished from everyone’s sight.

“At that time, everyone thought you’d gone into seclusion to digest the insights from that fight. Who could have guessed that the man who defended Snow Moon Peak and upheld the Heavenly Dao Sect’s honor would collapse alone in the forest of Snow Moon Peak, life and death unknown…” Yun Xi murmured.

“Well, it’s all in the past. And to be fair, I did gain quite a lot from that battle, didn’t I?”

“Hmph. Maybe others didn’t know you used three forbidden techniques, but how could your master, Master Xueyue, not know? She knew full well you had paid a heavy price, yet she didn’t even bother to look for you. How could someone like her deserve to be your master?” Yun Xi’s voice turned sharp with anger.

“Yeah, and now all those ties are cleanly severed. But I didn’t expect it’d be you who saved me back then,” Ling Yun said, his voice carrying a hint of nostalgia.

That’s right—the one who pulled Ling Yun back from the brink of death was Yun Xi, who had only just developed her own consciousness. She used her system permissions to retrieve a mission reward from the system space and saved his life during that cycle.

Without her, even if Ling Yun had survived by sheer luck, he would’ve ended up crippled, his foundation destroyed, paralyzed for life.

What made Yun Xi feel truly cold inside was that when Master Xueyue saw Ling Yun return, she didn’t ask about his injuries at all. Instead, her words subtly blamed him for being too heavy-handed, risking the sect’s relations with the Flying Immortal Sect.

It was from that moment Yun Xi’s impression of Master Xueyue plummeted.

“That idiot didn’t even think about why you fought so desperately in the first place! You defended the dignity of Snow Moon Peak, and she turned around and said you went too far! The Flying Immortal Body was the one aiming to kill you with every move! Did she step in to stop it? No!” Yun Xi was still fuming.

“Yeah… but now, Xu Aozi no longer exists in this world. If that Flying Immortal Body dares challenge Snow Moon Peak this time, I’m curious who’ll be the one to stand against him. Snow Moon Peak’s three disciples… good luck to you all.”

As if thinking of something amusing, Ling Yun’s steps became even lighter.

Before long, the grand gates of the Heavenly Dao Sect appeared before him. One step past this gate, and he would no longer be a disciple of the Heavenly Dao Sect.

“Not even a single person came to see you off? So cold. Is there really not a single grateful soul in the entire Heavenly Dao Sect?” Yun Xi said, unable to hide her disappointment.

“No one is perfect, but isn’t that better? Clean break.” Ling Yun said as he took a step past the sect gates.
