Chapter 1: New Student Enrollment, A New Beginning

Longcheng First High School.

As a new student, Luo Chenxuan looked around nervously, his gaze drifting uneasily. Just last week, he had moved to Longcheng with his parents, arriving just in time for the entrance ceremony of Xingyue Academy at Longcheng First High School. Nervous sweat streamed down his face. To others, it might seem like typical anxiety from entering a new environment, but only Luo Chenxuan knew the real reason—he suffered from gynophobia.

Surrounded by girls walking in every direction, Luo Chenxuan felt like a cat in unfamiliar territory, shifting slowly left and right, trying to carve out a clear space for himself.

He roughly understood the root of his condition. Due to his parents’ job changes, he had moved seven times already. Longcheng was the eighth. Sometimes, he even doubted where his family got the money to keep moving so often.

Because of the constant relocations, Luo Chenxuan never really had any close friends. Just when he would start getting used to a place and form friendships, he’d have to leave again. Over time, he became more and more withdrawn. Still… there were maybe a few people who genuinely wanted to get along with him… right?

He sighed softly and slowly walked toward the school’s bulletin board. On the board were the class assignments for new students, a campus map, and a list of outstanding students.

Most of the new students had already entered the teaching building, so the area around the board was almost empty now. Only then did he dare get close and take a look.

As Luo Chenxuan scanned the board for his name, a light gardenia fragrance suddenly wafted into his nose. He abruptly turned his head and saw a girl standing beside him at some point without him noticing.

She had delicate features, porcelain-white skin, and an innocent, doll-like beauty that made people feel protective. Her long black hair fluttered in the breeze.

Fear surged in Luo Chenxuan’s chest, and he immediately backed away. The girl beside him noticed and tried to reach out to steady him, but his movement was too sudden. She lost her balance and was about to fall when he quickly caught her with one hand.

The girl stared at Luo Chenxuan’s profile, slightly entranced.

Just as she was about to speak, he quickly withdrew his hand. She caught herself against the board and nearly fell again.

“Hey! What are you doing? I almost fell again!” The girl glared at him, clearly annoyed.

Luo Chenxuan stepped back two more paces and cleared his throat, “Sorry, I… it was a reflex.”

Seeing him retreat again, the girl looked a bit hurt and said, “Do I… do I look like a ghost to you?”

“Huh? No, not at all…”

“Then were you serious about stepping back like that?”

“I just… think standing this close isn’t very appropriate…”

“Oh~ I see,” the girl nodded dramatically. “I’m Jiang Ru, a new student today. And you?”

“Luo Chenxuan. Also a new student.”

“Hmm…” Jiang Ru looked him up and down. “Actually, I wanted to ask you earlier. Do you know where the classroom map is?”

Luo Chenxuan pointed at the bulletin board beside him.

Jiang Ru quickly moved closer, and he immediately backed away two more steps. Jiang Ru glanced at him and found it amusing, then quickly scanned the map and pointed at the list of outstanding students beside it.

“This is pretty impressive.” Jiang Ru sighed. “To think we can see a legendary figure at this school.”

Luo Chenxuan had no idea what she meant. He was focused on finding his own class.

Jiang Ru mumbled to herself, “Beautiful appearance, excellent grades, her father is the biggest shareholder in this school, and she’s the Student Council President—Leng Yueli.”

At the sound of that name, Luo Chenxuan froze like he had turned to stone. It felt like the blood drained from his body.

“Who…?”

“Hmm? What did you say?”

“The person you mentioned just now… the President… who?”

“Leng Yueli. Why?”

Luo Chenxuan silently prayed that it was just someone with the same name. He mechanically moved in front of the board. When he saw the photo and the name, his vision nearly went black.

“It’s her…!”

“What what what?” Jiang Ru stood beside him, baffled, watching this strange guy move strangely and mutter strange things.

Only Luo Chenxuan knew in his heart that Leng Yueli was one of his nightmares. She had a fairy-like beauty that seemed to disdain the mortal world, like someone who didn’t belong in it. Her features were as exquisite as if sculpted. She had been scouted by countless talent agents since childhood but rejected them all. Her family had wealth, power, and influence. To call her a winner in life would be no exaggeration.

But Leng Yueli… was a complete lunatic.

Years ago, when Luo Chenxuan first moved from the city to a developing village, he had seen a little girl crying alone at a children’s playground after school. That girl was Leng Yueli. He went over to talk to her. At first, she was cold and distant, but he stuck with her, refusing to leave. Eventually, her father found them and took both of them home.

After that, Leng Yueli clung to Luo Chenxuan constantly. Whether eating, sleeping, or even wanting to bathe together—though even as a child, he knew that was something inappropriate, so he kicked her out.

The two were inseparable. Luo Chenxuan held her hand every day as they ran around, always looking forward to what they’d do next. Until a year later…

“Croak croak”—that was the nickname Luo Chenxuan gave to Leng Yueli, joking that her crying when they first met sounded like a little frog.

“What’s wrong?” Leng Yueli was wearing a floral dress.

“I might have to move again. My dad said his job here is done, and we’re going back to the city.”

The light in Leng Yueli’s eyes instantly faded. Her pitch-black pupils looked like they could swallow everything.

“Is… that so?” She slowly walked closer and gave a chilling smile. It wasn’t joyful, nor happy—it was… threatening.

The hollow stare and eerie smile made Luo Chenxuan a little afraid.

“Uh… Croak Croak? Are you okay?”

“Mhm… I’m fine. I just remembered something I need to do at home. I’ll go now.” Leng Yueli turned around and walked off like a soulless machine. Watching her, Luo Chenxuan didn’t dare say another word.

The night before leaving, Luo Chenxuan went out one last time to see her, thinking it would be a tearful farewell. What he got instead was…

Leng Yueli, surprisingly strong, shoved him to the ground, muttering something he couldn’t understand. Then she straddled him and asked, “Chenxuan, will you forget me?”

Her expression looked like she could devour someone.

“No, no, I won’t…” Luo Chenxuan trembled in fear.

“I don’t believe you…” she whispered slowly. In the moonlight, she looked like a demon from hell.

She bit her own lip and suddenly kissed him. Luo Chenxuan couldn’t even react in time. He just felt a strange taste in his mouth—like the time he curiously licked a frozen metal pole and his tongue got stuck.

The strong taste of blood, iron, and her warm breath left him dazed. A second later, a sharp sting came from his lips, and he quickly pushed her away.

“You… what are you doing?!” Luo Chenxuan clutched his mouth, horrified.

“Blood fusion…” Leng Yueli slowly spoke. “Now… our blood is entwined, we are one… never to be separated.”

That night, the moon was beautiful, the weather pleasant, and the stars dotted the sky. A gentle breeze carried away the day’s exhaustion.

Under the moonlight, Leng Yueli’s eyes shimmered with tears, her pupils deep and unfathomable, her cheeks slightly flushed.

She smiled faintly, licking the blood she had just taken from Luo Chenxuan’s lips as if it were a precious treasure. In that moment, she was breathtakingly beautiful… and utterly terrifying.
