Chapter 4: Identity Revealed, Situation Reversed

Sweat poured down Luo Chenxuan’s back like rain. His mind began frantically rewinding, trying to figure out when his identity had been exposed. His heart pounded so violently that he could barely breathe. He kept his head down and remained completely still.

“Ah, senior, you still remember me?” Jiang Ru spoke up, and in that instant, Luo Chenxuan realized—Leng Yueli was talking about Jiang Ru, not him.

Luo Chenxuan slowly let out a breath, feeling like he had just dodged death.

The sight of the two girls chatting was so striking that it felt like a beautiful scene framed by the classroom.

“You’re not planning to join the Student Council?”

“No, no, I’m not really good at managing things.” Jiang Ru smiled sheepishly and scratched her cheek.

“Then I won’t force it. By the way, what about that boy who was with you earlier? Which class is he in?”

As soon as those words left her mouth, Luo Chenxuan silently began to pray. Please let Jiang Ru help keep his identity hidden—if she exposed him now, it was all over.

Jiang Ru hesitated for a second, then replied, “Ah… him? We separated in the morning. I’m not sure which class he’s in. We only just met earlier today.”

Luo Chenxuan, still with his head lowered, subtly turned his face toward Jiang Ru.

Did she understand his situation and really help him hide it?

Gratitude flooded his chest, and he silently swore: I’ll never secretly call you a brainless, dumb idiot girl again.

Jiang Ru seemed to sense that rude little thought, and without turning, gave Luo Chenxuan a sharp side-eye from behind Leng Yueli.

Meanwhile, Wang Tianwen—unhappy with how all attention had been stolen—slowly walked up beside Leng Yueli and politely extended his hand. “Hello, Miss Leng. It’s an honor to meet you. I am Wang Tianwen, second son of the Wang family. My older brother, Wang Tianwu, is the one intending to propose to you.”

His manners were impeccable, smile just right, posture elegant like a seasoned businessman. Even Wang Tianwen silently admired his own flawless performance.

Leng Yueli turned her head, barely lifting her eyelids, and looked at him coldly with a condescending gaze.

“Oh? Then tell your idiot brother to give up. There’s no chance between us.”

Wang Tianwen felt as if her icy glare had pierced his soul. He shivered and slowly retracted his hand. Before he could say another word, Leng Yueli turned her attention back to Luo Chenxuan, who remained motionless with his head bowed like someone who had disconnected from the world.

“This classmate, I noticed you didn’t fill out the form either. You’re not interested?”

Her question struck like lightning.

Everyone in the Student Council—and students who knew anything about her—were stunned. Why? Because Leng Yueli never initiated conversations with boys. In her eyes, the only boy qualified to stand beside her was that one.

She was known as the Ice Queen, never interacting with males. Every member of her Student Council was female. When a boy tried talking to her, he was either ignored or humiliated. People called her the untouchable President of Ice Mountain.

But now, the Student Council members stood frozen.

After all, it had been Leng Yueli’s idea this year to personally visit classrooms and recruit members—a bold, hands-on approach that normally would’ve been handled by Vice President Zhong Qing. In fact, Zhong Qing had been doing all the recruiting up until they reached Class 5, where she found Leng Yueli already standing outside the door, waiting to enter with them.

Jiang Ru, knowing the Ice Queen’s personality, had already started to suspect something was off when Leng Yueli touched Luo Chenxuan earlier. From what she’d heard, Leng Yueli wouldn’t even speak to a guy, let alone touch one.

Yet here she was, not only talking to Luo Chenxuan but also approaching him and making physical contact. It was beyond strange.

Luo Chenxuan kept his head deeply lowered, completely silent.

“What’s wrong, classmate? Why aren’t you speaking? Are you feeling unwell? Hmm… you also look kind of… familiar?” Leng Yueli’s voice dripped with seduction, lingering on the last three words with a soul-stirring tone.

Wang Tianwen’s face turned green with fury.

In his eyes, this guy was unbelievably rude—not even standing up or making eye contact while speaking to Leng Yueli. Just sitting there like some uncultured savage. What right did this nobody have to earn her attention? Not that Wang Tianwen’s politeness was real either—it was all an act.

“Hey! Miss Leng is talking to you! Did you not hear her?” Wang Tianwen jumped at the chance to perform, trying to step on Luo Chenxuan to boost his standing with Leng Yueli. “You could open your mouth just fine a minute ago! Don’t you know how rude your behavior is?”

Leng Yueli turned her sharp gaze toward Wang Tianwen. “I’m speaking to someone, and you’re the one interrupting—how is that polite? Looks like you and your idiot brother really are cut from the same brainless cloth.”

Wang Tianwen was instantly silenced, too afraid to talk back. He couldn’t dare raise his voice at Leng Yueli, so all he could do was fume inwardly at Luo Chenxuan.

Meanwhile, Luo Chenxuan’s brain spun, trying to find a way out. Slowly, he picked up a pen and scribbled on a piece of paper: “I can’t speak.”

Then he raised it slightly without lifting his head, showing it to Leng Yueli.

Leng Yueli looked down, saw the crooked handwriting, and gently covered her mouth, laughing softly.

“I see. My apologies, classmate. I didn’t know about your condition.”

Wang Tianwen caught a glimpse of the words on the paper and exploded. “He’s lying! That bastard can talk! He was just arguing with me!”

Luo Chenxuan thought, Argue with you? I was agreeing with you the whole time!

Leng Yueli exhaled calmly, the coldness returning to her posture. She turned to Wang Tianwen. “He said he can’t speak. Why are you butting in? Have nothing better to do? Should I call someone from the Wang family to check if your brain’s working? If he says it, I believe it. Got that?”

Wang Tianwen choked on her words, his face turning red from humiliation.

“Miss Leng, why are you protecting that loser? He’s lying to you! Everyone in class saw it—he can talk! He just doesn’t want to talk to you!”

Leng Yueli’s freezing gaze swept over everyone in the room—including the homeroom teacher. No one dared make a sound. After all, this school existed solely because of the Leng family.

“So then, who saw it?” Leng Yueli’s voice sliced like a blade.

“You all—!” Wang Tianwen clenched his fists, teeth grinding. He hadn’t been humiliated like this since he was a child. Now it had happened twice in one morning. He glared furiously at Luo Chenxuan, eyes screaming: I will get my revenge.

“Well then, brainless second son of the Wang family, could you step aside now? Just looking at you makes me nauseous.” Leng Yueli’s tone was merciless, aiming to completely shatter him.

Wang Tianwen didn’t say a word. He thought back to all the times he had been overlooked in the past. And now it was happening again. He couldn’t afford to mess with the Leng family, so all he could do was redirect his rage at Luo Chenxuan. He returned to his seat in fury, whispering under his breath, “This isn’t over.”

Leng Yueli turned to her still-stunned Student Council members and pointed at Luo Chenxuan. “Xinyi, record this student’s name. He’s joining outside the usual process. As for the position… let him stay by my side—as my personal assistant.”

“Personal… what?”
