Chapter 1: You’re Not Worthy of Divorce—You’re the One Being Cast Aside!

“Ning Que, must you really be so petty?”

“It was only your child’s flesh and blood used to save General Gu. I’m the child’s mother too—I naturally have the right to decide!”

“General Gu comes from a military family and was poisoned while defending our nation against Xiliang. Don’t forget, your father and brothers were also killed by those Xiliang bastards. He was avenging them! Things have come to this point—can’t you be a little more generous?”

…

Xianhong Medical House.

The room was a mess.

The air was thick with the smell of blood.

Lin Xianhong reclined on a golden silk couch, dressed in plain clothes. Her face was deathly pale, drained of color, yet she still carried an air of arrogance. She looked at her stunned husband, Ning Que, with no hint of remorse. As if what she had done was merely trivial.

Ning Que’s hands and feet were ice-cold as he took in the scene before him. A fury roared inside him, surging straight to his head. He trembled as he stepped forward, “So you killed my child… just to save another man?”

“Gu Yuan is not just another man!”

“He is a true hero!”

“Handsome, elegant, humble and courteous, skilled in both literature and martial arts, brave and wise. Most importantly, his character is flawless—he is the epitome of a gentleman. He’s defended the western border for years and has led dozens of battles. Not long ago, he dealt a major blow to Xiliang’s forces and was granted the title of First-Class General by His Majesty, inheriting the Marquis of the Tiger title.”

At the mention of Gu Yuan, Lin Xianhong lit up. Even after her miscarriage, she still defended him. As she spoke, she looked at Ning Que with disdain.

“You may be the heir of Prince Ning, but you’re a disgrace—spending your days in brothels, mingling with craftsmen and farmers. You’ve neither literary talent nor martial prowess. Using your unborn child to save General Gu was your honor! And let’s be clear—if you hadn’t disappointed me again and again, I wouldn’t have done this!”

As her voice faded, the two female doctors by her side jumped in.

“Indeed, Young Master, why must you be so aggressive?”

“The madam lost her child—she’s heartbroken too! Instead of comforting her, why are you interrogating her like this?”

“General Gu’s achievements are unparalleled—he is the pillar of our nation with a bright future ahead. Saving his life with an unborn child is a fair exchange. Besides, you and the madam are still young. If there’s love, you can have another child in the future.”

“Heh… Hehehe…”

Ning Que stood at the doorway, laughing out of sheer rage.

Now he truly understood what it meant to have a heart completely shattered.

He looked at the unrepentant Lin Xianhong, then at those female doctors smirking with moral superiority. There was nothing left to say.

He slowly closed his eyes.

The past flashed vividly in his mind.

He was born in Prince Ning’s mansion, the youngest son of the only Prince of Great Feng.

His father held the regency, ranked as Grand Preceptor, commanded the nation’s armies, and had been named the Supreme General of Strategy by the late Emperor.

Five years ago, Xiliang led 100,000 elite cavalry to invade the border.

Prince Ning led his troops to counterattack. At first, the campaign was a huge success—they took thirteen cities in a row. But someone betrayed them, leaking their military movements. The enemy used 30,000 elite soldiers as bait, luring Prince Ning into Hulu Valley.

That battle was unimaginably tragic—both sides lost nearly all their forces.

Prince Ning’s eldest son died charging at the frontlines.

The second son was killed by a falling boulder during a surprise attack.

The third son was hit in the eye by a stray arrow and hacked to pieces.

Prince Ning fought to the death without surrendering and was finally pierced by countless arrows.

…

After that battle, only Ning Que was left to carry the Prince Ning bloodline.

The moment he heard the news, Ning Que wanted to join the war to avenge his family.

But his mother clung to him, sobbing with blood-mixed tears, her heart shattered.

She feared Ning Que would also die on the battlefield—then Prince Ning’s line would be completely wiped out.

In the end, Ning Que agreed to her dying wish.

To marry, have children, and restore the family’s strength.

…

Ning Que opened his eyes.

He stared at Lin Xianhong from just a few steps away.

Back then, he had proposed to her at his mother’s dying request—because she was the daughter of his mother’s closest friend.

At that time, the Lin family had been accused by the Minister of Personnel of colluding with foreign enemies and leaking Prince Ning’s troop movements. Though the case was filled with suspicious details, many believed it was a setup to frame them and find a scapegoat.

Lin Xianhong knelt before Ning Que, begging him to save her family.

After Ning Que investigated the truth, he brought the Prince Ning family’s heirloom immunity medallion to court, pleading for the Lin family with Prince Ning’s name as guarantee. Though the Emperor was furious, he still agreed to pardon the Lin family and granted the marriage.

Lin Xianhong had always been frail and had difficulty conceiving. Ning Que never took a concubine and sought out the most skilled doctor in the land—Chang Baicao. The doctor prescribed many medicines to help her recover.

Just the daily medicine cost thirty taels of silver.

Ning Que never complained.

During that time, Lin Xianhong developed an interest in medicine and wanted to study under Chang Baicao. But the physician had been betrayed by a former disciple and refused to take any more students.

Ning Que personally pleaded on her behalf.

Chang Baicao had once been saved by Prince Ning and viewed Ning Que as a son. Considering Lin Xianhong was Ning Que’s wife, he finally agreed to take her in.

She already had a foundation, and Chang Baicao taught her everything he knew.

Six months ago, she was even summoned to the palace to save the Empress Dowager.

From that moment, she became the famed goddess doctor of Chang’an!

And it was also that day she discovered she was pregnant.

According to Chang Baicao, she was carrying twins!

Yet, Lin Xianhong didn’t know how blessed she truly was!

…

Gu Yuan won a great victory over Xiliang and returned in triumph!

But on the road home, he was ambushed and poisoned.

Chang Baicao personally examined him and said it was incurable. But Lin Xianhong, despite her pregnancy, studied medical texts day and night. She eventually discovered that royal blood could be used as an antidote.

But royal blood wasn’t something to be used lightly.

Still, Gu Yuan was the man she loved most. She had married Ning Que only because she had no choice. The moment she heard Gu Yuan had returned victorious, she rekindled her hopes of being with him again. As a 3rd Rank female physician, now a favorite of the Empress Dowager, she believed herself worthy.

Thus, the children in her womb became an obstacle. Using the excuse of saving Gu Yuan, she got rid of them—and could now pave the way for their future together.

“Ning Que,” Lin Xianhong struggled to sit up and spoke softly, “I know this hurt you, but I have no regrets. If you really want to hold me accountable, we can divorce.”

“Heh… divorce?”

“What?”

Ning Que turned his head, unwilling to look at her again.

“Do you remember what happened to the Lin family five years ago?”

“And what your childhood sweetheart Gu Yuan did?”

“He washed his hands of it and claimed he had returned home to honor his ancestors.”

“You knelt in front of the Gu residence—did anyone come out to see you?”

Ning Que spoke calmly, as if none of it mattered to him.

“You killed your own child with your own hands.”

“All to save the man you’ve longed for.”

“From this day forward, I cast you aside, you wretched woman!”

He turned to leave without another word.

“Stop right there!”

“What now?”

“You think you can cast me aside that easily?” Lin Xianhong forced herself upright, sneering coldly, “I once saved the Empress Dowager. She supported my decision to save General Gu. If you try to cast me aside for this, even the Empress Dowager won’t agree. Besides, do you really think you’re qualified to cast off a 3rd Rank Imperial Physician like me?”

Her official rank wasn’t high.

But she had the Empress Dowager backing her!

Lin Xianhong stood her ground, pressing him further.

“And don’t forget—our marriage was granted by the Emperor. If you want a divorce, I’ll try to cooperate. But if you cast me aside, the one who loses face will be the Prince Ning household! Ning Que, don’t let your temper blind you to my kindness. I promise you—I’ll bear children for you in the future. Don’t throw it all away in a fit of anger.”

“You’re not worthy.”

Affection that comes too late is worth less than grass.

Ning Que turned and left without a trace of emotion.

He could indulge Lin Xianhong—but not let her cross the line.

This had gone too far. There was nothing left to discuss.

Five years of love—fed to the dogs!

From now on, they were finished!

Whatever she took from him—she would pay back!

Whatever she used—she would return!
