Chapter 3: Cultivation Breakthrough Is Possible, Master, Please Take Off Your Clothes

Inside Su Wanqing’s Cave Residence on Little Bamboo Peak, warm mist curled above the spiritual spring as she soaked quietly in the pool.

Once, the water had been infused with medicinal liquid to temper her body, but now, her body could no longer endure the spiritual energy of those herbs, so she had replaced it with pure spiritual spring water instead.

Her eyes were vacant, but Chu Ning’s words—“Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west”—sparked a faint glimmer of determination within her again. Since ancient times, countless cultivators had fallen under the Saint’s Tribulation Lightning. She once believed her talent would let her transcend it, but in the end, she had been too confident.

It had already been a month since her recovery began. She had consumed every kind of pill, yet she still could not condense even a trace of spiritual energy. She understood her condition clearly—her Spirit Palace had shattered, her spiritual veins were broken, and her body was now beyond repair. Even her lifespan would likely be short.

Not long ago, she was still a Prodigy, one of the fastest Sword Cultivators to advance in the entire Northern Region. But now, she was nothing more than a cripple who could not circulate spiritual energy at all. She had felt anger, she had felt despair, but now only silence remained.

Leaning against the pool’s edge, Su Wanqing let the warmth of the spring embrace her. Her mind drifted to the words she had told her only remaining Disciple—“Heaven never completely closes the path for mankind.” Perhaps that was why Ning’er, despite his low Aptitude, continued to cultivate diligently every day. She had never truly understood that kind of persistence until now. Only at this moment did she realize how strong Chu Ning’s heart truly was.

“My Disciple… you’re not ordinary. But I no longer have the ability to guide you further.” Su Wanqing sighed softly. Even the Little Bamboo Peak, which the Sect had seemingly left for her, would probably be reclaimed within months.

A series of knocks suddenly echoed through the Cave Residence.

Su Wanqing’s expression changed. She immediately stood up, threw on her outer robe, and gripped her sword. She knew her beauty well—countless men had pursued her over the years, even the Sect Master among them. Yet her heart had always belonged to the Dao and swordsmanship, never to worldly desires. Now that she had lost her cultivation, she feared someone might seize the chance to harm her.

Human greed could be terrifying. She dared not relax, not even for a breath. If anything were to happen, she would rather die than be defiled. She even placed a pill in her mouth; if the intruder’s cultivation was too strong, she would swallow it instantly and die on the spot. To her, purity was far more important than life itself.

“Master, are you resting? This Disciple made you a bowl of Ginger Soup.”

Outside, Chu Ning stood under an umbrella before Su Wanqing’s Cave Residence. Visiting late at night like this could easily be misunderstood, but he truly had no hidden motive. He only wanted to earn some Contribution Points and check on her well-being. Though the system was unreliable, he was still an upright man!

Before he could say more, the Cave Residence door slowly creaked open, revealing a faint glow from within. A woman stood in the dim light, her delicate figure barely wrapped in an outer robe, holding a sword with alert eyes.

Chu Ning immediately looked away and raised the bowl of Ginger Soup in his hand. Seeing this, Su Wanqing relaxed and lowered her sword. “It’s Ning’er. Come in.”

Chu Ning could see what she feared—without cultivation, she was just a defenseless woman. He smiled faintly, placed the umbrella by the entrance, and stepped inside. Setting the bowl on the table, he poured a serving for her.

When he turned, he froze. Su Wanqing was sitting nearby, wearing only a light green robe loosely tied across her chest. Her fair, slender legs gleamed faintly under the lamplight, and her wet hair clung to her skin, glistening with droplets. Her refined features were breathtaking, and Chu Ning suddenly felt his mouth go dry.

Only now did he realize that he might not be as righteous as he thought. If he’d been born under different circumstances, he might not have been such a decent person at all. He quickly looked away. “Master, here’s the Ginger Soup.”

Su Wanqing glanced at him and finally felt at ease. Since it was her Disciple, there was nothing to fear. She discreetly spat out the pill hidden in her mouth. “You’re thoughtful, Ning’er.” She took the bowl and sat beside him.

A faint chime echoed in Chu Ning’s mind. [Detected Host has comforted wife in her time of need. Reward: 1,000 Contribution Points!]

Chu Ning’s eyes brightened. So helping others did give generous rewards! He smiled unconsciously, which Su Wanqing immediately noticed. “Ning’er, why are you smiling?”

Startled, he quickly shook his head. “It’s nothing, I just remembered something.”

Su Wanqing sighed lightly and continued sipping the Ginger Soup. She trusted him—after all, she had watched him grow up. “Master, why do you sigh?” he asked.

She smiled bitterly. “At this point, do I not have the right to sigh?”

Chu Ning shook his head. “Master, even though you’ve lost your cultivation, at least now you can see your Fellow Disciples’ true faces. You’ve witnessed the hypocrisy within the Sect. You’ve always been gifted—joining the Supreme Profound Sect at seven, becoming a Prodigy admired by all. Your path had always been smooth, and people only ever flattered you. Forgive my bluntness, but when you reached the peak of the 6th Realm a month ago, you wanted to stabilize your cultivation. Yet because of everyone’s flattery, you lost focus and attempted a reckless Breakthrough. That failure came not from lack of strength, but from misplaced trust.”

He looked into her eyes. “Now that you’ve seen all this clearly, isn’t it a kind of blessing? Perhaps you can still return to cultivation.”

Su Wanqing’s gaze froze. “Ning’er, how do you know all this?”

Chu Ning sighed softly. “Though I’m slow in cultivation, I understand human nature. People admire you when you have everything, but mock you when you fall. That’s how the world is.” His life at the bottom had taught him much about people’s cruelty.

Su Wanqing’s eyes grew complicated. Even an eighteen-year-old like him could see it clearly—so why hadn’t she? Perhaps this was indeed a form of enlightenment. “But… can I truly begin again?”

Chu Ning’s tone was firm. “Master, have you forgotten who you are? The Su Wanqing I know never yields to fate. No great Saint ever walked a smooth path. You must rekindle your Dao Heart! Even if the Supreme Profound Sect abandons you, I’ll accompany you across the world. If we fail, at least we tried. But if you give up now, everything truly ends.”

Her pupils trembled. Yes! Who had she been before all this? Even through hardship, she had never bowed her head.

Chu Ning’s tone softened. “I know words alone can’t change everything. But I’ve lived among the lowest; I know how others think. They want nothing more than to see you surrender. The moment you stop struggling, they’ll feel satisfied. But if you rise again, it’ll make them uneasy.”

Su Wanqing’s heart stirred. This child understood the world more deeply than she had.

“Master,” Chu Ning continued, “you may think your life has lost its meaning, but to me, you’ll always be the almighty Master I respect. Even if you never regain your cultivation, I’ll stay by your side for life, with no regrets.”

Her eyes quivered violently. In times of hardship, one saw true sincerity. He did not come to her when she stood at the peak, but remained when she fell.

[Detected Host’s wife has regained her Dao Heart. Reward: Contribution Points +! Triggered Wife-Pampering Critical Hit! Reward: Technique upgraded—‘Everlasting Spring Hand’ upgraded to ‘Eternal Spring Undying Technique’! System Evaluation: Host truly knows how to pamper!]

Chu Ning blinked in disbelief. He hadn’t said those things for rewards; he just wanted to comfort her. Yet now, his Heaven-Devouring Demon Art’s required points were complete. What an unexpected surprise.

[Technique: Eternal Spring Undying Technique. Effect: Generates the essence of Eternal Spring within the body, capable of healing oneself and others while enhancing cultivation speed. At mastery, forms the Eternal Spring Dao Body.]
[Creator’s Remark: Barely acceptable technique. Continue refining.]

Chu Ning’s eyes lit up. The upgraded technique even had the potential to form a Dao Body—something thought impossible to obtain postnatally!

But before he could process it, Su Wanqing suddenly laughed. “Hehe… Haha! Hahaha!”

Chu Ning was stunned. What the hell? Didn’t the system say she had regained her Dao Heart? Why did she sound crazy? “Master, are you alright?”

Still laughing, Su Wanqing rose to her feet, looking up as joy filled her face. “A century of cultivation couldn’t grant me the insight that a single fall has. Ning’er, you’ve helped me see my true Dao Heart! Rest assured, I’ll dedicate my life to finding a way to restore my cultivation. You will see the Su Wanqing you once admired again!”

Chu Ning let out a breath of relief. So she wasn’t insane, just finally released from her despair.

Then a thought struck him—the Eternal Spring Undying Technique could even restore damaged meridians. Perhaps… it could repair her Spirit Palace too? “Master, there’s something I wish to say, though I don’t know if I should.”

Su Wanqing, her confidence restored, said calmly, “Speak. There’s nothing you and I cannot discuss.”

Chu Ning said, “I once obtained a special technique. It can heal injuries and even restore damaged meridians.”

Su Wanqing shook her head. “It’s not just the meridians. My Spirit Palace is broken. Unless it’s repaired, nothing else matters. No one can do that—or at least, no one I’ve ever known.”

Chu Ning hesitated for a moment, then said seriously, “Let me try. What if it actually works?”

Su Wanqing pondered briefly. He wouldn’t harm her, and there was no other hope anyway. “Alright, Ning’er. What do you need me to do?”

Chu Ning said earnestly, “Master, please take off your clothes…”

Su Wanqing froze instantly. The air in the Cave Residence went rigid. She stared at him, eyes wide with disbelief. “Ning’er… what did you just say?”
