Chapter 9: He Smells Bad, Not Pleasant at All

Absurd as it was, Chu Ning still forced himself to accept it.

Wife…

After the system’s prompt, Chu Ning couldn’t look at Su Wanqing the same way again.

That smile… it was simply too alluring.

He even couldn’t help recalling last night…

Sigh! He really wasn’t some virtuous man who respected his master above all else. This system was seriously messing with him.

Though he grumbled about it, Su Wanqing truly was stunningly beautiful.

But right now, she had no cultivation. She had no one left to trust—only him.

If he acted rashly now, she’d think everything he said was just to win her over. A proud person like Su Wanqing might even lose her will entirely.

Those words from before were genuinely what a disciple would say to prevent their master from taking her own life.

Back then, she had taught him with care. As a child, he had longed for eternal life, even though he knew his aptitude wasn’t enough.

That year, Su Wanqing gently patted his head and said with a smile, “Even if you can’t cultivate in this life, as long as you follow behind me, no one will lay a finger on you.”

That confidence, that care—that’s what had left Chu Ning in such inner conflict now.

Forget it!

Spoiling her is the right thing to do!

Helping her restore her body was part of pampering his wife!

Back then, she stood before him. Now it was his turn to shelter her from the wind and rain!

Chu Ning got up and accepted the flying sword Su Wanqing handed over.

“Do you still remember the Ethereal Sword Technique?”

Su Wanqing’s expression turned serious as her gaze settled on Chu Ning. When it came to the sword, she was extremely strict. The shift in her demeanor was so drastic she seemed like a different person.

Once again, she looked like that former peerless sword prodigy whose presence dimmed all others.

“My Ethereal Sword Technique is a modification of the Supreme Profound Sect’s Grand Void Sword Technique.”

“The foundation lies in sword intent and a resolute Dao heart. Once mastered, it can lead to ascension. The sword technique has eighty-one forms.”

“Ning’er, demonstrate the basics—stab, slash, sweep, chop, and cut.”

Swordplay, like any technique, was composed of strokes and transitions. But the fundamentals were those few core movements. Master them to perfection, and only then could one comprehend sword intent and achieve fluid motion.

Chu Ning immediately followed the movements he had once practiced. Now that he was at the 2nd stage, his sword swung with force. To him, it was enough to be a killing move.

But to Su Wanqing, it was a headache.

Flaws everywhere.

Even his stance was wrong—he was treating the sword like a knife. Swordsmanship focused on using softness to overcome strength. Even the fiercest sword was not defined by brute force, but by the sword’s inherent power.

Sigh… It was right to make him learn body tempering back then. If he’d tried sword cultivation at the time, he wouldn’t even have made it through Body Tempering (9 stages).

Su Wanqing had already seen through Chu Ning’s sword aptitude and foundation.

Even though his Realm had improved, his talent in swordsmanship wasn’t high.

If he began now, the time and effort required would be enormous. Still, better to start now than when the path was completely closed.

Her gaze turned sharp and cold as she locked eyes with him.

“Are you truly determined to learn the sword?”

Chu Ning cupped his fists at once. “This disciple wishes to inherit Master’s Ethereal Sword Technique, and also desires to gain true insight into the sword.”

“Are you sincere?”

“My devotion to Master is witnessed by Heaven and Earth…”

Su Wanqing twitched at the corner of her mouth and said helplessly, “I was asking about your sincerity toward the sword path, not toward me.”

You’re already good enough to me—I can see that.

Weren’t we talking about swordsmanship?

Chu Ning gave an awkward smile and quickly corrected himself, “My resolve to walk the sword path is absolutely sincere!”

Su Wanqing nodded, her expression still stern. “Then tell me, why do you want to pursue sword cultivation?”

Without hesitation, Chu Ning answered firmly, “To use this sword to right all the injustices in the world!”

Her gaze tightened slightly.

Had her disciple always possessed such lofty ideals?

No—this had always been the issue. With a Mortal Spirit Root, reaching Body Tempering (3rd stage) was already seen as impossible by most.

For years, he endured wind and sun, practicing punches to strengthen his body. To make it this far—was that not proof enough of an unshakable Dao heart?

So he’d had such grand ambitions all along. If his aptitude were anything like hers, he’d be a sword cultivator no less formidable!

Su Wanqing was now convinced—regardless of his aptitude, he would resolutely walk the path of the sword.

“Tomorrow, I’ll revise the sword technique you demonstrated earlier. You’ll practice it at least a thousand times daily.”

Chu Ning sheathed his sword and bowed, “Thank you, Master.”

“There’s no need for thanks between us. After all, I also seek something from you now.”

Chu Ning’s expression shifted. He looked at Su Wanqing, then at the Cave Residence.

Suddenly, last night flashed through his mind, and his throat went dry.

Even though she was older than him, she was exactly his type—mature, graceful, beautiful, and with an incredible figure…

He took a deep breath and did his best to suppress those unruly thoughts.

Su Wanqing rose slowly.

“Come with me. No need to clean this up.”

Chu Ning hesitated briefly, but still followed.

Yes—his Dao heart was firm. He was doing this to help Master restore her cultivation!

Once she regained her strength as a peak 6th stage sword cultivator, even the Sect Master wouldn’t dare to touch them—even if he was a Saint.

Sword cultivation was hard. It required massive resources, rare talent, and relentless effort.

But first—help Master recover.

Soon, the two of them returned to the Cave Residence.

Su Wanqing felt something stir within her. Her face turned slightly red, but she let out a long breath.

Her disciple was helping her recover cultivation. How could she think so poorly of him?

Chu Ning also took a deep breath.

The faint fragrance in the Cave Residence was intoxicating.

He was here to help his master regain her strength—how could he think such dirty thoughts?

The two stood in silence, clearly both uneasy.

In the end, it was Su Wanqing, more experienced, who broke it.

“Ning’er, you must’ve exhausted yourself yesterday helping me recover. Today, you don’t need to push so hard. Just do what you can.”

Chu Ning returned to his senses and smiled, “I was at a lower Realm then. I’ve improved since, Master doesn’t need to worry.”

Su Wanqing nodded and, without hesitation, lay face-down on the bed. Chu Ning immediately followed.

“Master, just lie down like that.”

“Ning’er, I have something to say to you.”

She glanced at him strangely, face flushed.

Chu Ning looked confused. “Is something wrong, Master?”

Su Wanqing clenched her fists, her lips trembling slightly. “Even if you didn’t mean to, when speaking to a woman, it’s best not to…”

Chu Ning was bewildered. “Not to what?”

Su Wanqing suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

He had no ulterior motives—he was helping her out of respect and gratitude. If she said it, wouldn’t that imply she suspected his intentions?

Forget it. There was no need to say more. They both understood.

After all, this was something pure and noble—it would become a good tale.

But just as she lay down, she suddenly caught a strange scent.

“Ning’er, do you smell something odd?”

Chu Ning froze. Then he remembered—damn!

“Master, I expelled impurities during Cultivation Practice today. I thought I’d cleaned up, but there’s still a smell…”

It really stank—not pleasant at all!

Chu Ning quickly turned around. “Master, please wait! I’ll go wash up first…”

But the more he spoke, the worse it sounded.

Su Wanqing’s ears flushed again, but she stopped him.

“Those impurities are called prenatal filth. Ordinary water can’t cleanse them. There’s a spiritual spring in this room—use that instead.”

Chu Ning froze. He looked at the spring, then at Su Wanqing’s reddened face.

Hmm… was this really okay?

“Between Master and disciple, everything is pure and aboveboard,” Su Wanqing suddenly declared like she was hiding something.

“Don’t be so restrained. I watched you grow up.”

Chu Ning nodded fiercely, not daring to say much more.

Actually…

You only saw me when I was little—you haven’t seen me as an adult…

No, no—pure and noble!

Without hesitation, Chu Ning jumped into the spring.

Stripping would’ve been weird.

Su Wanqing couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.

“You won’t get clean without removing your outer clothes. Fine, since you don’t want me to watch, I’ll go fetch a change of clothes from your room.”

Yet as she turned to leave, she couldn’t help but glance again.

How had his body grown this strong in just a few years?

She quickly looked away and left in a hurry.
