Chapter 3: The Bad Feeling Came True

“Want me to walk you back?” At the entrance of the neighborhood, He Li asked with a smile as he looked at Miao Xiaoyu, whose cheeks were still flushed.

Miao Xiaoyu shook her head. “It’s not far. It’s right next to your neighborhood. I can go back by myself!” 

With that, she ran a few steps ahead, waved her little hand at He Li, and skipped away with joy.

He Li gazed at her graceful figure, his eyes full of affection, until a voice behind him interrupted his thoughts.

“Stop looking. She’s long gone!”

“Don’t you like our Liu Yuyan?”

“Why are you getting involved with that Miao Xiaoyu now?”

“Scumbag, are you still trying to chase after Yu—”

Before she could finish, as He Li turned around, the freckled girl beside Liu Yuyan stared wide-eyed.

“So handsome!” she blurted out without thinking.

Even Liu Yuyan was stunned for a few seconds.

In their eyes, He Li had always been decent-looking—around a seven or eight—but never to the point of amazement. Yet now, his stunning face paired with his tall figure exuded a powerful charm…

Li Feng’er couldn’t help but swallow. Whatever she wanted to scold him for was instantly forgotten. She blushed, not daring to meet He Li’s eyes.

Liu Yuyan was only slightly better off. Her heart pounded wildly. She had never felt this kind of attraction toward He Li before.

A faint blush appeared on her exquisitely beautiful face. Embarrassment welled up within her, but the next second, He Li’s indifferent tone poured over her like cold water, extinguishing the excitement in her heart.

“Something wrong?” he asked flatly.

Liu Yuyan snapped back to reality at his tone. She tried to calm herself as she stared at He Li’s handsome face, but now she felt confused and uneasy.

In her memory, He Li always spoke to her gently, fearful of upsetting her. He had never spoken to her like this, as if she were a stranger.

Though she didn’t know what was going on, she didn’t take it to heart. He Li’s three years of infatuation gave her confidence. She believed that no matter how angry He Li was, he’d soon come to her and apologize.

Rather than his tone, what bothered her more was why Miao Xiaoyu had been with He Li just now. This man was supposed to be chasing her. In the past, he always kept his distance from Miao Xiaoyu to avoid misunderstandings.

But today, they were laughing and chatting together?

That made Liu Yuyan uncomfortable. It felt like her boyfriend had cheated on her…

She wanted He Li to give her a proper explanation.

“Aren’t you going to explain what happened with Miao Xiaoyu just now?” she asked coldly, her tone full of entitlement, which made He Li almost laugh.

“Explain? To you?” He Li sneered and replied mercilessly, “Who do you think you are?”

The atmosphere froze.

Li Feng’er stood there speechless.

Liu Yuyan was stunned. She pointed at He Li in disbelief. “You… you’re actually yelling at me?”

Her voice trembled slightly, eyes full of grievance. “What’s wrong with you today? You never yelled at me before! He Li, I want you to apologize to me right now! Or else… I… I won’t tell you where I’m applying for university!”

Her eyes were red as she spoke angrily.

He Li chuckled coldly and turned around. “You’re out of your mind.”

“Why should I care where you’re applying?”

Without another glance, he headed home, ignoring Liu Yuyan completely.

Now Liu Yuyan was truly stunned. What was going on?

He Li didn’t care where she was applying?

How could that be? 

Just a few days ago, he was clinging to her like a pathetic puppy, begging to know which university she would attend so he could follow her and keep pursuing her.

Why did he suddenly not care?

Could it be… Liu Yuyan suddenly shivered.

She thought of the worst possible scenario.

He Li… might not like her anymore?

“No, no way! That’s impossible!”

“Hmph, he’s just throwing a tantrum because he got rejected.”

“I gave him hope, didn’t I? Acting like this… tomorrow, when he regrets it and comes to apologize and ask to get back together, it won’t be so easy!” Liu Yuyan huffed, calming herself.

Then she muttered, “That guy… after tidying himself up, he’s actually kind of charming.”

“Why didn’t I notice before…”

“Because you were too busy looking at girls before!”

The next morning, He Li casually replied to Wu Gang, who was amazed at the change in him. Wu Gang nodded seriously. “True, I’m not into guys. Why would I look at you?”

“But, haha…” He glanced around at the girls sneaking peeks at them. “Being secretly admired by girls feels amazing!”

“Feels like I’ve reached the peak of life!”

As Wu Gang spoke, his eyes landed on the lunchbox in He Li’s hand. He had noticed it earlier.

“Hey, where’d that lunchbox come from?”

“Don’t tell me you brought breakfast for Liu Yuyan again?”

He looked suspicious and slightly disapproving.

He Li, of course, knew what he was thinking. “What are you talking about?” He kicked Wu Gang lightly. “This is my own breakfast. I didn’t have time to eat earlier!”

Hearing that it wasn’t for Liu Yuyan, Wu Gang let out a sigh of relief. He had really been worried that He Li was about to fall back into old habits.

“Alright, let’s go!” He Li urged.

They had to head to school. 

Though the college entrance exam was over and there were no more classes, they still had to go listen to some final words from the teachers—just a routine thing. After that, it would be time to wait for results and enjoy the long holiday.

“A two-month break… I need to make some plans. Start a business and earn some startup capital!” He Li thought as he walked.

When he arrived at the classroom, his appearance instantly drew everyone’s attention!

“Damn! He Li? Did he get plastic surgery?”

“Just one night and he’s even more handsome?”

“Ah~ I feel like I’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow!”

“Quick, is it too late to confess now?”

Voices buzzed in the classroom. The girls blushed as they stole glances at him, some even boldly throwing him flirty looks.

The boys looked at him with envy and resentment.

By the window, Liu Yuyan beamed with pride.

Handsome, right? That handsome guy is chasing me!

“Hmph, he’s the man you can’t have.”

“But I can get him whenever I want!” Liu Yuyan thought smugly. “Though that guy gave me face, I won’t forgive him easily for yelling at me yesterday.”

“If he wants forgiveness, he has to buy my favorite breakfast and write a self-reflection letter!”

“A 5,000-word apology is the minimum.”

“If he writes it and reads it aloud…”

“Then maybe I’ll consider forgiving him!”

Liu Yuyan crossed her arms proudly, her face full of arrogance as she glanced at He Li walking into the classroom. She assumed he would come over and apologize like before.

Especially seeing the lunchbox in his hand…

She thought it was breakfast for her. After all, He Li always did that before.

If he brought her breakfast again today, then he definitely couldn’t help wanting to apologize and make up.

But she wouldn’t let him get away with it so easily.

“Hmph, how dare you yell at me yesterday!”

“If I don’t teach you a lesson this time, won’t you act even more unruly in the future?” she thought smugly.

As He Li approached, she became even more arrogant, waiting for him to flatter her and beg for forgiveness.

But soon, her smile froze…

Because He Li, who had been walking toward her, didn’t continue forward. Instead, he just sat down at his seat and placed the lunchbox inside his desk, showing no intention of giving it to her.

He didn’t even glance at her the entire time!

Liu Yuyan’s heart skipped a beat. A bad feeling rose within her.

Her best friend Li Feng’er, being blunt as always, spoke up, “He Li, since you brought breakfast for Yuyan, just give it to her already. Seriously, our Yuyan is still hungry!”

She moved as if to go get it, but He Li said coldly, “Did I ever say the breakfast was for Liu Yuyan?”

“You’re really overestimating yourselves.”

The classroom instantly fell silent.

Everyone looked at He Li in shock.

Liu Yuyan’s face darkened.

That bad feeling…
