Chapter 7: Inheritance, the Bridal Robe

“Am I dead?”

In that instant just now, Qin Chuan felt as if a blazing thread had pierced straight through his skull.

A burning pain surged from his right eye socket.

As his consciousness faded, he seemed to arrive in a hazy, unreal world.

Everything was shrouded in mist, indistinct, dreamlike, as if illusion and reality overlapped.

“So you’ve finally arrived?”

“I’ve waited for you for far too long…”

“So long that I’ve forgotten my true self, forgotten the passage of time…”

The voice carried a trembling resonance, like an ancient zither echoing across a thousand years, stirring Qin Chuan’s mind.

He turned his head in a daze.

In the distance stood a woman dressed in a crimson bridal robe. Golden-threaded phoenix embroidery spread its wings along the hem as if ready to take flight.

Her pale, bare feet hovered in the air without causing even the slightest ripple.

In her hand, she held a delicate oil-paper umbrella, slightly raised. The golden bells along its edge swayed silently, revealing half of a face so beautiful it was breathtaking.

Her left eye was normal, but her right eye shimmered with a strange, enchanting golden glow.

“Who are you?”

Qin Chuan swallowed unconsciously as he stared at her mesmerizing face.

This woman in red was so beautiful she did not seem human.

“Who am I?” she parted her lips slightly, as if hesitating, before speaking again after a long pause. “I am the one who has been waiting for you…”

“Child, I am also a dragon keeper.”

“And also… a resentful woman waiting for her husband to return home…”

Her tone carried a hint of teasing, yet it was filled with an overwhelming resentment, as if it had accumulated over endless ages.

That resentment made Qin Chuan’s heart pound violently, his blood surging as though he might explode.

“Who is your husband?”

Qin Chuan’s mouth went dry. He could not tell whether this was real or an illusion. Was this a dream before death?

“You’re asking who my husband is?”

“It’s you. You are my husband, child…”

Her words were disjointed and confusing.

He tried to look at her more clearly. Though he could only see half her face, it was still enough to leave him stunned.

It was a beauty untouched by the mortal world, so close yet so sacred that he dared not stare directly, fearing he might profane it.

When his gaze fell upon her golden right eye, a sudden pain exploded in his own right eye.

“Ah…”

The abrupt agony made him cry out.

In the next moment, blood gushed from his right eye as if it had burst open, and a strange vision appeared before him.

A mysterious purple-gold thread extended from his body.

Thick, heavy, dazzling, and unbreakable, as if it were the most indestructible thing in existence.

One end was connected to his right eye, and the other was inexplicably tied to the woman’s right eye.

“So you’ve awakened the karmic thread?”

The woman approached slowly, lowering her umbrella to conceal most of her face. “To see the thread of affection on your first awakening. That’s quite a pleasant surprise.”

“Don’t ask too much. You’re still too immature.”

A flawless hand extended from beneath the umbrella and gently cupped Qin Chuan’s cheek.

As if holding the most perfect treasure in the world. “You’ve suffered…”

“I have also waited for you for countless years…”

“I hope this time… you can succeed…”

Her voice was melancholic and distant.

“Husband, from now on, we have an appointment. You must not forget. I have waited for this for ages…”

Her voice began to fade, dissolving like mist.

Qin Chuan hurriedly reached out to grab her, but caught nothing.

Seeing this, a strange smile appeared on her lips, somewhere between bitterness and relief. “Do your best, my husband.”

“I hope this time you won’t disappoint me… and won’t disappoint yourself…”

Before he could react, countless streams of complex information, like a cascading galaxy, flooded into his mind.

Qin Chuan let out a scream and completely lost consciousness.

Time seemed to blur past in an instant, like seasons flashing by.

Light and shadow flickered, days and nights shifting in rapid succession.

When Qin Chuan opened his eyes again, he was lying on a bench in a park.

The early morning sunlight pierced his right eye, causing pain.

He rubbed his aching temples. “What happened?”

“Was it a dream?”

The next moment, he froze.

In the vision of his right eye, numerous semi-transparent gray threads floated eerily, yet naturally.

“This… karmic threads?”

Qin Chuan felt a surge of excitement.

Last night’s strange experience was not a dream?

The bizarre dream, the woman in the bridal robe holding the umbrella, and the karmic threads…

Scene after scene replayed in his mind.

The overwhelming information now in his mind confirmed the strangeness of it all.

Then he froze again.

Last night at the bar, he had been beaten until his head was bleeding, and his shoulder blade had been stabbed.

Yet now, all of it had healed?

More importantly, he felt a surging, powerful energy within his body.

Before he could fully process it, a message appeared in his mind.

Body Refinement: Copper Skin, Silver Blood, Golden Bones.

And now, he seemed to have reached the Copper Skin stage, making him resistant to blades and tremendously strong.

After studying it for a while, Qin Chuan opened his eyes.

He exhaled, and a stream of white mist shot out like an arrow.

As he stood and stretched, his bones crackled loudly.

Qin Chuan was overjoyed. From today onward, he would be reborn, no longer a lowly pawn to be manipulated.

The strange dream from last night had manifested into reality. This body refinement technique had come from that dream.

It was as if he had transformed overnight, no longer an ordinary person.

This realization filled him with excitement. He understood that last night’s dream was a form of inheritance, or perhaps an awakening.

Looking at the ancient bronze ring emitting a faint, eerie glow on his hand, his heart stirred.

The keepsake his mother had left him was clearly extraordinary.

Now it seemed that his mother’s disappearance was tied to a shocking secret.

After steadying himself and taking a deep breath, his gaze gradually turned resolute.

Next, he would return to take back what belonged to him. Then… divorce.

A cold glint flashed in Qin Chuan’s eyes.

Since love had rotted away, let it scatter with the wind.

He was destined to rise above all.

Half an hour later, Qin Chuan arrived at the villa where he had lived for three years.

Due to the changes within him, this luxurious residence that had carried three years of his marriage now looked different.

Every brick and window seemed to be entwined with faint gray strands.

Those strands were thick and lingering, like accumulated resentment and unwillingness.

Qin Chuan let out a self-mocking laugh. “So much resentment…”

“Even this house seems to despise me.”

He reached out and pressed the fingerprint lock.

The moment his finger touched the screen, a cold notification sounded like a hammer striking his heart.

His fingerprint data had been deleted?

He had left only last night, yet today it was already gone?

Was Su Qinghuan really that eager to remove him?

Five years of feelings, three years of marriage, all wasted.

He had personally chosen this door during renovation, yet now he no longer even had the right to enter.

Thinking about it now, it felt utterly ridiculous.

He pressed the doorbell, and the crisp sound rang out.

After a moment, the door opened. It was Aunt Wang.

Seeing Qin Chuan, her eyes reddened. “Mr. Qin, you’re back?”

The scene from yesterday was still vivid. Her eyes were full of heartache and reluctance.

Looking at her, Qin Chuan felt a warmth rise in his heart.

“Aunt Wang, I came back to get some things.”

She was startled. “Mr. Qin, have you really decided to leave?”

Qin Chuan nodded slightly, a faint smile in his eyes. “Aunt Wang, you’ve seen everything. There’s no need to persuade me.”

“Leaving here might be my only relief.”

Aunt Wang sighed heavily. “Mr. Qin, this old woman won’t say much more. I wish you a bright future.”

Qin Chuan nodded and walked inside.

As soon as he entered, a sharp sound of porcelain shattering came from upstairs.

Immediately after, a gentle voice followed. “Huanhuan, how could you be so careless?”

“Go rest. I’ll take care of this small matter.”

Qin Chuan’s temples throbbed violently, and a wave of nausea rose.

Damn it. He had only come back to take his things, yet he still had to witness this disgusting scene.
