Chapter 29: If the Roots Are Not Severed, Spring Winds Will Bring New Growth!

At that moment, Lin Feng reached out and patted Jiang Yi beside him, speaking in a low voice, “Jiang Yi, people like him aren’t worth arguing with.”

Jiang Yi understood that he couldn’t help Lin Feng much and might even become a burden. So he pulled back and charged once more into the surrounding Northern Barbarian Blood Wolf Army.

Lin Feng raised the Dragon Chant Saber and pointed it at Wang Erhu’s followers, saying word by word, “I don’t want to see brothers of Yan Pass kill each other. Turn around now and fight the enemy, and I’ll spare your lives.”

Wang Erhu’s followers were clearly hesitant, exchanging uncertain glances.

They feared that if they backed off now and Wang Erhu managed to kill Lin Feng, he’d retaliate against them afterward.

To them, although Lin Feng had killed many enemies, it was mainly due to his archery skills. Most of his kills were against 2nd grade martial artists from the Blood Wolf Army. But Wang Erhu was a solid 3rd grade martial artist, seasoned by years on the battlefield—far beyond a rookie soldier like Lin Feng who had joined only six months ago.

“You don’t need to be afraid. With me, Wang Erhu, here, this brat can’t stir up any waves!” Wang Erhu shouted. “Attack with me and kill this arrogant bumpkin! After the war, I’ll make sure you all are promoted!”

Who knew if his followers were just brainless or if they’d been scared stupid by the Northern Barbarians—but they actually believed him.

At once, the group surged forward, blades all pointed at Lin Feng.

Lin Feng closed his eyes. When he opened them again, a flicker of reluctance passed through them.

But in the next instant, he moved.

The Dragon Chant Saber in his hand reaped lives with each swing. The cries didn’t last long—only silence and corpses remained.

Seeing Lin Feng’s swift and brutal execution, Wang Erhu was not afraid—instead, he looked excited.

“Lin Feng, how vicious you are! To murder your own comrades without hesitation—you are indeed a scourge within the army!”

“Now there’s both witnesses and evidence. Once I report this to General Pan, I’d like to see how you’ll deny it!”

Upon hearing this, Lin Feng’s mind buzzed—he finally realized.

Wang Erhu had never expected those men to kill him. He simply used them as bait to frame him.

Wang Erhu then retreated several steps and drew the Profound Rank warbow again, pulling it to full draw.

“Lin Feng, I admit you can fight. But in this world, brute force alone means nothing.”

“Drop your Dragon Chant Saber now and surrender!”

“Or I’ll shoot you dead!”

“This is a Profound Rank treasure bow. You might dodge one arrow—can you dodge a second?”

The defenders had indeed died by Lin Feng’s hand. If he surrendered now and was brought before General Pan, he wouldn’t be able to explain his way out.

In Wang Erhu’s mind, Lin Feng was still the same obedient and timid recruit. Even if he had the strength of a 3rd grade martial artist, so what? He still ended up in his hands—trapped between life and death!

Suddenly, Lin Feng let out a cold laugh.

“What are you laughing at?!” Wang Erhu demanded, tense and wary.

“I’m laughing at your stupidity, your idiocy. You think a mere bow can kill me? What a joke.”

He then took a step back, gripping the saber in one hand, staring coldly at Wang Erhu.

“Then let me kill the real vermin before I return to battle!”

In the next instant, Lin Feng activated the Heaven-Slaughter Blade Technique and charged like a ferocious tiger toward Wang Erhu, his momentum overwhelming.

“You’re seeking death!” Wang Erhu roared, releasing three arrows in rapid succession, all aimed at Lin Feng’s vital spots.

But after the third arrow, Lin Feng was gone.

Beads of sweat poured down Wang Erhu’s forehead.

Then, from behind, a familiar voice said, “Decurion Wang, what are you looking for?”

The moment he heard that voice, Wang Erhu instinctively raised the warbow to block.

BOOM!

He flew backward like a kite with a broken string.

Bang!

He slammed heavily into the ground, vomiting blood. The Profound Rank warbow in his hand snapped in half.

The searing pain coursing through his body made him doubt whether Lin Feng was even a 3rd grade martial artist.

He was a 3rd grade martial artist himself—maybe not invincible in the same rank, but definitely peak-level among them.

Yet he couldn’t even block one of Lin Feng’s strikes?

He fell into deep self-doubt.

But when he saw Lin Feng approaching with his Dragon Chant Saber in hand, like a god of death, the killing intent shook him back to reality.

After all, he was a peak 3rd grade martial artist. Wang Erhu quickly stood back up.

He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and drew the saber from his waist, screaming hysterically, “Lin Feng, you defied orders and attacked a superior! If General Pan finds out, he’ll have you torn limb from limb!”

Lin Feng narrowed his eyes but didn’t argue.

He truly wanted to act for the greater good, or he wouldn’t have wasted so many words at the start.

But he also understood a truth—if the roots aren’t severed, spring winds will bring new growth.

Wang Erhu had already made up his mind to kill him. Even if he spared him now, Wang Erhu would use the deaths of those defenders to frame him later.

In short—either Wang Erhu died, or he did.

Just then, several 3rd grade martial artists from the Blood Wolf Army broke through the outer defenses and spotted the two of them.

After cutting down a defender, they charged at Lin Feng with two long sabers attacking from either side.

Lin Feng quickly blocked with the Dragon Chant Saber and countered with a reverse slash, instantly killing one of them.

Seeing Lin Feng kill a 3rd grade martial artist with a single move, Wang Erhu froze in terror.

The remaining Blood Wolf soldier tried to fight back, but after three slashes from Lin Feng, his barbaric saber couldn’t hold up any longer.

Clang!

With one powerful strike from Lin Feng, both man and blade were cleaved in two.

Lifting his gaze, Lin Feng’s sharp eyes locked onto Wang Erhu like a hawk.

“You… you’re not a 3rd grade martial artist… You’re at least 4th grade!” Wang Erhu stammered.

“When did I ever say I wasn’t a 4th grade martial artist?”

“Wang Erhu, you’re a Decurion, yet you coveted your subordinate’s wife.”

“To frame me, you disregarded the lives of so many comrades. You truly deserve to die!”

Lin Feng gritted his teeth. The Dragon Chant Saber trembled in his grip, emitting a terrifying dragon’s cry.

He had thought that even in total defeat, someone like Wang Erhu would at least struggle till the end.

But Wang Erhu’s already shaken heart completely collapsed.

In the next moment, thud—he fell to his knees in front of Lin Feng.
