After Transmigration, I Traded a Coin for a Peerless Wife and Conquered the Chaotic World - Chapter 47:
Chapter 47: If He’s Not Killed, How Will I Command Respect?
“You… what did you say?!” the Grade A soldier stammered in disbelief.
Lin Feng’s expression turned serious. He spoke each word clearly and coldly, “Every grain of rice in the army comes from the people’s sweat and toil. I will never allow even the slightest waste!”
“Now lick that porridge clean off the ground. If you don’t, I’ll punish you according to military law!”
This declaration enraged the Grade A soldier from the Northern Garrison. Several other Grade A soldiers nearby quickly gathered around him. Two Decurions of the Northern Garrison were among them as well.
But Lin Feng’s face remained calm and expressionless.
“I’m not licking it! What can you do to me?!” With his fellow soldiers backing him up, the Grade A soldier’s attitude hardened. With a sneer of contempt, he taunted, “Lin Feng, you think I don’t know your background? You were just a Grade C soldier who got lucky. The only reason you became a Centurion is because the General took a liking to you. What’s so impressive about that?”
Before Lin Feng could speak, Jiang Yi angrily shouted, “Insolent! How dare you speak to the Centurion like that!”
But the Grade A soldier remained dismissive. “Hmph! What’s the big deal? You survived one siege by pure luck. Out of 3,000 men, only forty survived. And you call that glory? You’re all just a bunch of cowards. If not for our Northern Garrison riding in from a thousand miles away, Yan Pass would’ve fallen. Instead of being grateful, you strut around like you own the place? What a joke!”
Those words finally ignited the fury in Lin Feng’s eyes. His gaze turned sharp and chilling, flames of rage flickering within.
The two Northern Garrison Decurions folded their arms, ready to watch Lin Feng embarrass himself.
“You were only going to be punished,” Lin Feng said coldly, “but now you’ve insulted the fallen warriors of Yan Pass. You deserve death.”
The Grade A soldier started to panic. His voice trembled, “W-What are you doing? Lin Feng, don’t abuse your authority and bully those below you! We… the brothers of the Northern Garrison… we’re not afraid of you!”
In truth, he had heard of Lin Feng’s reputation—fearless and fierce—and everyone knew Lin Feng had already reached the 4th stage Martial Artist level. As a 2nd stage martial artist, this soldier would be courting death to challenge him directly.
The rest of the Northern Garrison soldiers stared hard at Lin Feng. In their eyes, they had been treated unfairly—receiving no benefits after the battle and being left behind at this godforsaken post. If Lin Feng dared to kill their brother, they might not hesitate to rebel.
Lin Feng turned and swept his gaze across the densely packed soldiers of the Northern Garrison. His voice was calm and even. “Brothers of the Northern Garrison. After the battle, none of you received promotions. Meanwhile, I, a former Grade C soldier, became your Centurion. I know some of you harbor resentment.”
“But let me be clear—every bit of merit gained by me or anyone else from the Yan Pass garrison was earned by fighting ten, even a hundred enemies, and putting our lives on the line. I, Lin Feng, swear to treat all of you equally. Anyone who earns merit will be rewarded with rank and pay.”
“If someone surpasses me in merit, I’ll gladly give up my position as Centurion to him!”
His powerful words brought sudden silence to the crowd. Even the discontent in many soldiers’ hearts faded.
“Staying here at Yan Pass was General Yan Nantian’s decision. This is a strategic border outpost. There will be plenty of chances for glory.”
“I promise you, the future achievements you’ll earn here will be no less than what you would’ve earned following the General!”
Those words finally won the soldiers over. After all, if they could earn merit, it didn’t matter who they followed or where they fought.
“But today’s matter involves slandering the fallen warriors of Yan Pass. That will not be forgiven!”
“Let this serve as a reminder—from this day forward, you are no longer soldiers of the Northern Garrison. You are soldiers of Yan Pass, and you live and die with Yan Pass!”
Upon hearing this, the two Decurions and the surrounding soldiers of the Northern Garrison all knelt before Lin Feng.
“We obey Centurion Lin’s command!”
They weren’t stupid. Lin Feng had once beheaded a Northern Garrison Decurion as a mere foot soldier. If someone dared to resist him now, it would be suicide.
At this point, the two Northern Garrison Decurions, Cao Jinyuan and Huo Changzai, stepped forward.
“Centurion, this brother was ignorant. Please forgive him this once, since it’s his first offense.”
But Lin Feng waved them off, clearly refusing.
Today, he had to set an example. Otherwise, how could he command these wild, unruly soldiers?
“If I spare him today, how will I face the brothers who died on the battlefield?”
“Even General Yan Nantian is building a Hero’s Monument for the fallen. Yet this Grade A soldier dares to call them cowards?”
“If he’s not killed, how can I command the respect of the troops?”
Cao Jinyuan and Huo Changzai said no more.
Now the Grade A soldier finally panicked. He dropped to his knees, crying out, “Centurion, I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! I won’t dare do it again! Please, please spare me just this once!”
He knocked his head against the ground repeatedly like pounding garlic.
Lin Feng looked down at him with disdain.
If he had stood his ground to the end, Lin Feng might have respected him. But seeing him grovel like this only made him look more pathetic.
“Stand up!”
“You look down on the Yan Pass garrison? You mock a man like Wang Meng, who fought through blood and fire on the battlefield? Then I’ll give you a chance!”
At these words, the Grade A soldier looked as if he’d grabbed a lifeline.
Lin Feng glanced at Wang Meng and said coldly, “Wang Meng, fight him. If you lose, you go back to being a cook.”
Wang Meng already harbored hatred for this man. He instantly drew his broadsword, staring daggers at him, ready to strike.
Lin Feng reached toward the waist of a nearby soldier, pulled out a sharp blade, and threw it at the Grade A soldier’s feet. “Come on! Show me the might of a Grade A soldier from the Northern Garrison!”
The Grade A soldier trembled. Any courage he once had was completely broken by Lin Feng’s overwhelming aura. Hands shaking, he picked up the blade, staring at Wang Meng while gulping nervously.
Lin Feng walked over to Wang Meng and whispered, “Don’t hold back—kill him.”
From the beginning, Lin Feng never intended to let that soldier live. He just wanted to do it in the most impactful way—to truly subdue the rest of the Northern Garrison. And what could be more shocking than watching one of their own get killed by a former death row prisoner?
