Chapter 31: The Truth Behind the Beast Tide

As Su Ming pointed directly at Hai Wuliang, Elder Zhao immediately turned to look at him. Though he didn’t understand why Su Ming would so bluntly place the blame on Hai Wuliang, when it came to choosing sides, Elder Zhao had great foresight.

In a situation like this, standing firmly with Su Ming was the obvious choice—even if he turned out to be wrong.

Facing Su Ming’s accusation, Hai Wuliang quickly launched his counterattack. He didn’t understand why Su Ming was targeting him, but remaining silent was clearly not an option. Judging from Elder Zhao’s clear bias toward Su Ming, if he didn’t say something to defend himself, he’d be subdued on the spot.

“Holy Son, please don’t joke around. Why would I have any reason to orchestrate a beast tide? You’ve seen it yourself—our Azure Sea Sword Sect has also suffered terribly from these beast attacks. Why would I do something that harms others and myself?”

His defense sounded reasonable. After all, who would trigger a beast tide for no reason?

Su Ming calmly responded, “You used the beast tide as a pretext to send out distress messages, tricking other sects into coming here so you could kill them and seize their resources. That way, your Azure Sea Sword Sect wouldn’t have to worry about cultivation resources anymore…”

Hai Wuliang’s face turned red with anger. “Holy Son, don’t slander me without evidence! I admit our sect is remote and lacking in resources, but I, Hai Wuliang, have never stooped to such petty schemes! That kind of behavior is no different from the demonic path!”

“I acknowledge that the Trinity Saint Sect is the top sect in the world, but that doesn’t give you the right to throw around baseless accusations!”

Elder Zhao’s expression shifted slightly as he listened to Hai Wuliang’s righteous rebuttal. If word spread that their Holy Son had falsely accused someone, it would seriously damage the sect’s reputation.

At that moment, Su Ming took out several burned-out beast-luring incense sticks and tossed them on the ground. “Then how do you explain these? I found them while tracing the path of the beast tide…”

The sight of the incense sticks made Hai Wuliang’s expression change dramatically.

“You probably thought you’d cleaned up everything perfectly. But unfortunately for you, even the most meticulous work can have a flaw. To cause a beast tide on this scale, you’d need quite a bit of incense. Some leftovers were bound to be missed.”

Su Ming seized the moment and shouted, “Elder Zhao, what are you waiting for? Arrest him immediately! Or do you want me to do it myself?!”

Elder Zhao had already noticed the incense sticks and Hai Wuliang’s shifting expression. Without hesitation, he moved into action.

Despite being at the 6th stage Nirvana Realm, Hai Wuliang stood no chance against a cultivator at the Star Realm like Elder Zhao. His sword had barely left its sheath before it was broken, and his cultivation was immediately sealed as he was pinned to the ground.

At this point, Hai Wuliang dropped all pretenses. Glaring at Su Ming, he asked, “I clearly cleaned up all the incense. Where did you find those?!”

Su Ming ignored him entirely and boarded the flying vessel. “Elder Zhao, I’ll leave him to you. Do whatever you want with him, I won’t interfere. But I have only one condition—by sunset, we must depart and return to the Trinity Saint Sect.”

“Please rest assured, Holy Son. I understand,” Elder Zhao replied.

Dragging Hai Wuliang back toward the Azure Sea Sword Sect, Elder Zhao listened as the man kept loudly questioning where Su Ming had found the incense sticks.

But in truth, Su Ming hadn’t found any incense sticks.

From beginning to end, Hai Wuliang had cleaned up thoroughly. The ones Su Ming presented were actually obtained during the previous sect competition—from the secret realm.

Originally, Su Ming had planned to use them as evidence against Li Jianping in court. But now, instead of using them against him, they ended up being Hai Wuliang’s downfall.

Still, once they returned, Li Jianping would no longer be able to avoid the issue of opening the Three Saints Secret Realm. Of course, if he refused, that would simply give Su Ming a perfect excuse to cause a scene at the sect.

Back on the flying vessel, Shi Qiang immediately came over when he saw Su Ming return.

“Holy Son, you’re finally back. Did you find anything?”

Su Ming gave a mysterious smile. “Of course I did. I’ve already asked Elder Zhao to handle it. I feel my bottleneck loosening a bit, so I’m heading into the storage cabin to cultivate. If Elder Zhao comes looking for me, just tell him I’m in closed-door cultivation.”

Shi Qiang watched Su Ming’s back as he left, completely astonished.

He had only broken through to the 3rd stage Longevity Realm earlier that morning. How could he already be sensing another breakthrough?

Shi Qiang had always thought of himself as a genius, but compared to Su Ming, he didn’t even come close.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt a strange sadness. Was living in the same era as someone like Su Ming a blessing or a misfortune?

But soon, he smiled with relief. Being able to follow a peerless genius like Su Ming was his good fortune.

At least now, he had a goal to pursue.

With that thought, Shi Qiang turned and went to cultivate as well—completely forgetting the task Su Ming had just assigned him.

Just as he was about to enter the inner cabin of the vessel, he overheard a group of disciples nearby arguing.

They were debating who was more talented—Su Ming, the current Holy Son, or Qin Kaiwu, the previous one.

“Obviously Holy Son Su! Think about it. If Qin Kaiwu were that strong, how could he have lost the Holy Son title?”

“But I heard that Qin Kaiwu is still out training and hasn’t returned. No one knows what realm he’s reached. That’s why they canceled his title.”

“Then what’s the point in comparing him if he never comes back? No matter what, I’m supporting Holy Son Su…”

As the argument heated up, Elder Zhao returned.

“Have any of you seen the Holy Son?”

Shi Qiang suddenly remembered Su Ming’s instructions. He quickly stepped forward. “The Holy Son told me to inform you that he’s in closed-door cultivation if you come looking for him.”

Upon hearing this, Elder Zhao gave up the idea of disturbing Su Ming.

He had originally planned to report on how he handled Hai Wuliang and the Azure Sea Sword Sect.

“By the way, Elder, the Holy Son said he already found the source of the beast tide. Could you tell me what exactly happened?” Shi Qiang asked curiously.

The other disciples quickly gathered around, eager to know the truth.

At this point, Elder Zhao didn’t hide anything. He recounted the entire incident, including what he discovered afterward in the Azure Sea Sword Sect.

In their warehouse, he found storage rings with the designs of other sects—clear evidence that Hai Wuliang had already killed cultivators from other sects in the same way.

Once everything was confirmed, Elder Zhao didn’t hold back. He killed Hai Wuliang on the spot.

After investigating the other elders of the Azure Sea Sword Sect and confirming they had no involvement, he chose to spare them.

“It’s thanks to the Holy Son’s sharp eye that we caught this anomaly. Otherwise, some of you may have fallen victim to Hai Wuliang’s scheme.”

This time, Elder Zhao truly praised Su Ming from the heart.

Before, he had mostly respected Su Ming for his background. Now, he respected Su Ming as a person.

The disciples were also deeply moved. Without realizing it, Su Ming had saved all of their lives.
