Even Love Has an Expiration Date—Don’t Chase Me Now - Chapter 7:
Chapter 7: Feeling Sorry for Him, Aren’t You?
Mu Yuwei suddenly felt a wave of grievance rising in her heart, but she had no outlet for it. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and the constant ringing of the preparatory bell only added fuel to the fire.
Just then, a familiar voice caught her attention. She turned her head almost instinctively.
“This watery stuff dares to call itself soy milk? It should be called bean water. And this bun that has no filling after one bite—why not just call it a steamed bun?” Bai Shinan was grumbling as he complained about his breakfast.
“You’ve got to be kidding. All of that only cost 1.5 yuan total. What more do you expect?” Li Pengfei responded mercilessly from the side.
At that moment, both Bai Shinan and Li Pengfei fell silent. They noticed Mu Yuwei looking at them.
“Ah… we’re gonna be late for morning exercises! Bai, let’s go!” Li Pengfei smacked his forehead and quickly dragged Bai Shinan away.
Just then, Mu Yuwei did something that left everyone confused. She suddenly stood up, threw down her spoon, and said coldly, “I’m not eating anymore!”
Then she pulled Liu Tiantian, who had just finished peeling an egg, and left. The still-steaming breakfast was left untouched—clearly, she hadn’t eaten much at all.
After she walked away, Bai Shinan and Li Pengfei exchanged glances.
“You think that sentence was meant for you?” Li Pengfei considered the possibility.
“Ridiculous. What does her eating or not eating have to do with me?” Bai Shinan said indifferently.
…
After the morning exercises ended, the students scattered like birds and beasts, flooding the cafeteria in a massive wave. This was the true peak hour for the cafeteria.
Mu Yuwei squeezed through the crowd, her forehead slightly sweaty, her messy hair sticking to her skin, giving her a more grounded, down-to-earth look.
She was heading to the campus store to buy some bread. Pulling Liu Tiantian away earlier had felt good, but neither of them had eaten. She didn’t want to queue again in the cafeteria, so she had no choice but to buy the overpriced bread from the store.
Because of the prices, there were always fewer people at the store.
Just as she was approaching, she saw a familiar figure from behind. She didn’t know why, but she recognized Bai Shinan instantly.
“Why are you buying chocolate? Don’t you hate sweet stuff?”
“I never said it was for me.”
Mu Yuwei saw Bai Shinan holding a pack of Fude chocolate at the counter. Her lips curved up slightly, and her earlier gloomy mood lifted a bit.
Hmph, feeling guilty now, huh?
Too late. This time, she wasn’t going to forgive Bai Shinan so easily.
She didn’t know why, but instead of walking over to greet them, she hid to the side. Only after Bai Shinan and Li Pengfei paid and walked away did she sneak up like a thief and buy two tiger-skin roll cakes.
…
In the classroom, Liu Tiantian’s stomach was already growling. She had been anxiously waiting for Mu Yuwei like a child waiting for her mother.
“Yuwei, why did buying bread take you so long? Did something happen on the way?” Liu Tiantian was practically bouncing with excitement when she saw her.
“It’s nothing. There were just a lot of people, and I walked a little slower.” Mu Yuwei replied casually, sneaking a glance toward Bai Shinan’s seat. He was already back, quietly memorizing ancient poetry.
She reached into the bag and handed Liu Tiantian the only tiger-skin roll cake.
“Only one? Yuwei, where’s yours?” Liu Tiantian, despite her questionable sense sometimes, was still very considerate toward Mu Yuwei.
“I’ve lost my appetite, so I won’t eat. It’s just one breakfast, skipping it won’t kill me.” Mu Yuwei turned her body slightly as she spoke, her voice just loud enough for Bai Shinan to hear.
“That’s not okay! The last two periods this morning are P.E.! You’ll get low blood sugar and might faint!” Liu Tiantian said worriedly.
“It’s not that serious. You go ahead and eat, I’m going back to my seat.” Without giving Liu Tiantian a chance to persuade her further, Mu Yuwei walked past Bai Shinan’s seat and returned to hers.
Once seated, Mu Yuwei kept glancing in Bai Shinan’s direction, wondering how long he would hold out. No matter what he said later, she wasn’t going to accept that chocolate.
You like playing hard to get, huh? You like cold wars? Fine, I’ll play along. Let’s see if the fish can live without water or if the water can flow without the fish.
One minute passed…
Five minutes passed…
Ten minutes passed…
Bai Shinan didn’t budge at all. In fact, his recitation of the “Memorial to Dispatch Troops” was getting more and more fluent. He seemed completely immersed in the sea of knowledge.
Mu Yuwei began to doubt herself. What if that chocolate wasn’t even for her? Was she just overthinking it?
No. Impossible. Absolutely impossible.
But even when the class bell rang, Bai Shinan still hadn’t come over to give her the chocolate. The sound of the teacher’s footsteps echoed from outside the classroom.
He actually… really didn’t come.
Mu Yuwei felt her head buzzing. Her nose turned sour, and her throat tightened as if something was stuck in it.
Liar! Big liar!
He said he would accept all her flaws, that he’d love and cherish her for life… all lies!
Yes, she had made some demands, but if Bai Shinan disagreed, couldn’t they have talked it through? It’s not like she was unreasonable.
But he didn’t say a word. He just turned around and walked away. And now, what? Was she supposed to lower her head and beg him?
“Class, open your practice book to page 102. Today we’re covering…” The English teacher’s voice rang from the podium.
The classroom was filled with the sound of pages being flipped. As the English class representative, Mu Yuwei had to set an example. She quickly flipped through her desk to find the practice book—only to have a box of Fude chocolate fall onto her lap.
She instantly recognized it as the same one Bai Shinan had bought.
No wonder… no wonder he was so calm. It wasn’t that he didn’t care anymore—he had already given it to her.
Hmph, what a petty little trick, making her overthink for the whole morning.
Mu Yuwei shoved the chocolate back into the desk, her face regaining its confident smile. Bai Shinan was still the same Bai Shinan, and she was still the same Mu Yuwei.
She had made up her mind. She would give Bai Shinan a serious lesson—make him understand the price of ignoring her. If she forgave him over just one box of chocolate, he’d definitely make the same mistake again and again.
Meanwhile, Bai Shinan sat with his head lowered, staring at the corner of the Fude chocolate peeking out of his bag. Then he glanced at Zhu Yuyou, who was listening intently to the lecture in front of him.
How could he trick Zhu Yuyou into eating this chocolate? If he gave it to her directly, she definitely wouldn’t accept it.
