Chapter 5: University Roommates

On the computer screen.

The upload page.

The draft Jiang Fan had just pasted began changing from the very first line. From plot to design, it was automatically revised.

The only good news was that the writing style had not changed.

At that moment, Jiang Fan finally understood why the Celestial Radiant Secret Realm plot had changed. This was no longer simple revision. It was automatic optimization. In less than a minute, a completely new chapter had been generated in full.

After reading it, Jiang Fan’s lips twitched slightly.

Objectively speaking, the optimized plot was far higher in quality than what he had written himself. Yet he could not feel happy at all.

For a web novel author, having the plot of his own novel slip out of his control was an extremely unpleasant experience.

Just then, the dormitory door was pushed open from outside, and two boys walked in.

One was tall and thin, wearing black-framed glasses, the typical engineering student image.

The other was somewhat chubby, fair and clean-looking, with a smiling face that resembled a Maitreya Buddha.

Suppressing his frustration, Jiang Fan closed his laptop and stood up to greet them. “Hello. My name is Jiang Fan. I’m from Qingcheng, first-year Computer Science.”

“Zhao Hainan, from Dongyang Wangjing. Mathematics major.”

“Tong Ming, from Sichuan-Chongqing. Literature major.”

After briefly introducing themselves, the three began chatting casually.

When Tong Ming learned that Jiang Fan would not be staying in the dormitory at night, Zhao Hainan showed little reaction. But Tong Ming’s round face revealed a meaningful smile. “We’re brothers from now on. There’s no need to hide anything. Having a girlfriend isn’t something shameful.”

Jiang Fan froze for a moment and shook his head. “I don’t have a girlfriend.”

Tong Ming’s smile widened. “Then is it a boyfriend?”

The dormitory suddenly fell silent.

After a while, Jiang Fan spoke with a strange expression. “Sichuan-Chongqing really does have a reputation.”

A trace of caution appeared in Zhao Hainan’s eyes as he subtly moved a step away from Tong Ming.

Was this the adult world?

Terrifying.

Noticing their reactions, Tong Ming burst into laughter. “I’m just teasing you. It’s true that there are more people with that preference in Sichuan-Chongqing than in other places, but most people are perfectly normal. At least I am.”

Jiang Fan and Zhao Hainan both let out a sigh of relief.

If someone in the dorm truly had that inclination, it would indeed make things… tense.

Jiang Fan changed the topic and pointed at the empty bed by the door. “Hasn’t that person arrived yet?”

Tong Ming shook his head.

Zhao Hainan guessed, “There’s no name on that bed. This dorm might just be the three of us, or someone may arrive this afternoon.”

At twelve thirty, Jiang Fan suggested going to the university cafeteria for lunch and familiarizing themselves with Xiling University. Tong Ming and Zhao Hainan both agreed.

They were still sitting together while eating, but in the blink of an eye, Tong Ming disappeared.

When Jiang Fan and Zhao Hainan walked out of the cafeteria, they immediately noticed Tong Ming under a tree to the right.

No one knew where Tong Ming had gotten a small stool. He was wearing sunglasses, legs crossed, looking like an old man enjoying retirement.

Jiang Fan and Zhao Hainan exchanged glances.

“What is he doing?”

“Probably not… relieving himself…”

The two walked over and stood on either side of Tong Ming. Zhao Hainan spoke first. “Tong Ming, what are you doing sitting here?”

“Eating.”

Zhao Hainan looked confused. “What?”

Tong Ming shook his head and said, “Do you know what it means when people say beauty is a feast for the eyes?”

He stared at the girls walking in and out of the cafeteria, practically drooling. “Inside, my body was eating. Now, my soul is eating. Summer is wonderful. So many legs… tsk!”

Following Tong Ming’s gaze, Zhao Hainan saw the pale legs everywhere and looked extremely embarrassed. He instinctively lowered his head. “I really don’t understand you. What’s so interesting about legs?”

Tong Ming smiled without answering, then turned to Jiang Fan. “Brother, do you know what Xiling University is most famous for?”

Jiang Fan guessed cautiously, “Mathematics?”

“Wrong.”

“Then what?”

“Aesthetics.”

Hearing this, Jiang Fan guessed again, “Fine Arts?”

Tong Ming nodded with a grin. “Close enough.”

“How close is close?”

“Just one character difference. Xiling University is famous for aesthetics. Beautiful girls studies.”

Jiang Fan was speechless.

What a difference of one character.

Tong Ming removed his sunglasses. “Xiling University is full of beauties. The top ten campus belles on the school ranking are goddess-level. To be honest, the main reason I applied here is to find a campus belle as my girlfriend.”

“What about you two?”

Hearing Tong Ming’s grand ambition, Jiang Fan and Zhao Hainan could not help laughing.

Zhao Hainan adjusted his glasses. “I like mathematics. Xiling University’s math program is strong.”

Then both of them looked at Jiang Fan.

Jiang Fan spread his hands. “Coming here was purely accidental. My grades were average. I performed beyond expectations on the college entrance exam and barely crossed Xiling University’s admission line.”

Tong Ming looked puzzled. “The admission line is only 650. Anyone with hands can score that. How is that barely crossing?”

Zhao Hainan nodded. “Indeed. 650 isn’t difficult.”

Their casual tone made Jiang Fan roll his eyes.

Anyone with hands?

Not difficult?

That was 650 points.

“Can you two stop bragging? Tell me, what were your scores?”

Tong Ming said, “721.”

Zhao Hainan said, “726.”

Jiang Fan’s expression became colorful. After a long pause, he managed to say, “721? Tong Ming, can you at least draft your lie? I checked the top three scores in each province. The top scorer in Sichuan-Chongqing this year was 721.”

Tong Ming nodded. “That was me. This year’s exam was a unified national paper. I ranked third nationwide.”

Zhao Hainan added quietly, “I was the top scorer in Dongyang Province this year.”

Jiang Fan’s lips twitched.

From their expressions, they did not look like they were joking.

Could it be…

After a long silence, Jiang Fan finally said, “You guys are impressive.”

That highest praise among boys made Tong Ming and Zhao Hainan extremely pleased.

“Just average. Only third nationwide.”

“Not bad, not bad. Oh right, I was second nationwide.”

Jiang Fan fell silent.

Both roommates were provincial top scorers. One ranked second nationwide, the other third.

As for Jiang Fan, his national ranking was beyond 10000.

How did he deserve this?

In the afternoon, after collecting his military training uniform, Jiang Fan left campus.

From Xiling University to his rented room was only about a ten-minute walk. Even so, he was drenched in sweat. The moment he entered, he turned on the ceiling fan above his head.

Though it rotated slowly, it was better than nothing.

Jiang Fan set up his laptop and logged into the website backend. When he saw the completion rate data, his eyes widened instantly.

In just one day, the completion rate for 30,000 words had risen to fifty-two percent, an increase of eleven percentage points. Even across the entire site, such a completion rate was extremely rare.

It could be called top-tier.

Could it be… he was about to become famous?
