Chapter 114: Conquering Ling Kong Is the Ultimate Goal:

Only three people remained with Pan Ya. One of their sect members had just been killed by the swarm of insect beasts.

“Heh… I knew it,” Pan Ya said with a dark expression. “I wondered how the rest of us were running out of food and resources, but the two of you still looked fine. Turns out you were hiding a stockpile all along.”

He glared at Chu Mo and Xia Yu. “I knew something was off about you, but I didn’t expect you to be this shameless.”

Chu Mo exchanged a glance with Xia Yu and quickly replied, “Shameless? We were just being careful—rationing.”

“Rationing?” Pan Ya sneered. “Hand over your storage ring. Let’s see if it’s rationing or hoarding.”

Xia Yu instinctively stepped behind Chu Mo. He was her only shield now. Tensions were high—Pan Ya had just lost a teammate, and his fury was reaching a boiling point. A fight could break out at any moment.

“Our storage rings are personal. We’ve always shared resources fairly—everyone had what they needed,” Chu Mo said coldly. “Whatever’s left now is none of your business.”

Pan Ya laughed harshly. “Not my business? What if I take it by force then? The team’s disbanded anyway, and it’s just the two of you.”

He clenched his fist.

The other two men behind him—the tall one being from the previous generation of their sect, matching Chu Mo in strength, and the shorter one roughly equivalent to Xia Yu—stepped forward, ready to strike. Three against two. They were confident.

“Don’t blame us. Out here, only the strong survive,” Pan Ya grinned as all three of them launched their attack.

The tall disciple lunged first, his broadsword slashing straight toward Chu Mo.

Clang!

Chu Mo quickly pushed Xia Yu aside, drew his sword, and met the blow head-on. Sparks flew as their blades clashed, the force of the strike shaking the ground beneath them.

“Junior Sister, go! Don’t worry about me!” Chu Mo shouted while locking blades with his opponent.

“Senior Brother Chu Mo…” Xia Yu hesitated, glancing between him and the other two enemies. They couldn’t win in this situation. Escape was the only option.

Gritting her teeth, she turned and fled.

“Run? After killing my fellow disciple, you think you can run now?” Pan Ya sneered and chased after her with his companion.

Xia Yu didn’t dare look back. She pushed her body to the limit, sprinting across the rocky terrain. Six months in the ruins had pushed her to the 4th stage of the Spirit Martial Realm—but her two pursuers were just as strong.

They were gaining on her.

“Heh… if we kill her, her body might still be useful,” Pan Ya taunted as he ran. “It’s been a long time since I tasted meat… or touched a woman.”

Xia Yu’s eyes filled with disgust.

She regretted everything—joining this mission, entering the ruins, even forming that original team. She had wanted to confront Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi, to prove herself, to make them regret.

But it had been half a year, and she hadn’t seen them once. Maybe they were already dead. Maybe she had risked everything for nothing.

She clenched her fists. If Ling Kong and Jiang Ruoxi had been worse off than her, she could at least feel superior. But what if they were doing better?

What if they had survived—and thrived?

The thought was unbearable.

Suddenly—whoosh!

A blade of sword qi flew toward her. It slammed into the ground nearby, exploding in a burst of dust and force. Xia Yu was knocked to the ground.

Pan Ya closed in immediately and stood over her.

“I told you, there’s no escape,” he grinned, resting his blade against her neck.

Xia Yu stayed still, breathing hard. She had no way out.

“I’ll give you the ring,” she said quickly. “Everything in it. Just let me and Chu Mo go!”

Pan Ya only laughed. “Didn’t I already tell you? Your body is much more valuable than your supplies. You’re a rare beauty… and I’ve been starving.”

His blade slid slightly, slicing through part of her clothing.

“Pan Ya! Don’t you want to deal with Ling Kong?” Xia Yu shouted, desperate. “I can help you! If you kill me now, you’ll lose that chance!”

“Ling Kong?” Pan Ya scoffed. “Those two? They’ve probably been eaten alive by now. Even if they’re not, I can deal with them easily if I meet them again.”

He lowered his face toward hers. “Better to deal with you first. Eliminate all threats while I can.”

Everything had unraveled. Any illusion of teamwork was gone. Now it was about survival, and Xia Yu was a threat he didn’t want to leave alive.

Her eyes widened. Was this it? Was she really going to die here, humiliated and powerless?

She couldn’t die yet. She hadn’t proven anything. She hadn’t made Ling Kong regret.

Just as Pan Ya reached for her again—

SPLASH!

From beneath the ground, a grotesque worm beast burst forth. Its glistening body surged forward, opening a gaping maw with no teeth—but dozens of whip-like tongues lashed outward like tentacles.

Whoosh—Snap!

Those tentacles wrapped around Pan Ya’s body in an instant, pulling him into the beast’s open mouth with terrifying force.

Pan Ya didn’t even have time to scream.

Then, with a squelching sound, the creature vanished beneath the earth again.

The sudden silence was deafening.

Xia Yu gasped, trembling. The attack had come so quickly, so violently, she didn’t know how to react.

Then she remembered—Pan Ya’s blade had struck the ground earlier. That must have disturbed the beast beneath.

She stood slowly, sword in hand, her eyes now fixed on Pan Ya’s remaining companion.

With just one enemy left, her confidence returned.

“You just lost another teammate,” she said coldly, pointing her sword. “If you insist on fighting now, neither of us will gain anything.”

Her tone was firm, her stance unwavering.

“Let’s end this here—no more fighting.”

Pan Ya’s last remaining ally stood frozen, shocked by what had just happened. In the span of moments, they had lost two of their comrades—one devoured by an insect beast, the other slain.

Clutching his blade, the man shot a glance at Xia Yu, then silently turned around and fled.

He didn’t dare stay and fight. It would only waste precious energy, and the odds of victory were slim now. There was no point in continuing.

Xia Yu exhaled in relief, her grip on her sword loosening. Without delay, she turned and rushed back the way she came.

When she returned to the high platform, Chu Mo was still engaged in a fierce duel with the last enemy.

“Senior Brother! Pan Ya is dead!” the fleeing disciple called out as soon as he arrived.

“What?” the young man fighting Chu Mo immediately withdrew, stepping back in disbelief.

“He was eaten… by an insect beast,” the disciple said quietly, lowering his head.

The young man stiffened. With that, the situation had changed—both sides now had only two people remaining: one from the last generation, one from the current, and their strength was evenly matched.

Chu Mo lowered his sword slightly. “There’s no need to keep fighting. If we continue, we’ll only end up wasting our strength. There won’t be a winner.”

“Damn it…” the young man across from him clenched his teeth, clearly unwilling, but he knew Chu Mo was right.

With a huff of frustration, he turned. “Let’s go!” he barked at his junior, and the two left without another word.

They knew there was no point in prolonging the fight. And there was no longer any chance of forming a team again with Chu Mo and Xia Yu. Unity? That idea had already crumbled.

Once they disappeared, Chu Mo sighed in relief and turned to Xia Yu. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” she nodded softly.

But Chu Mo’s eyes soon noticed the tear on her shoulder. Her clothes had been ripped open, exposing her pale skin.

“Your clothes… did they do anything to you?” he asked, voice low and concerned.

“No… you got here in time,” she whispered, shaking her head.

Without another word, Chu Mo stepped forward and gently pulled her torn clothes back over her shoulder, tying a secure knot to cover the exposed skin.

“Thank you,” Xia Yu said with a small, grateful smile. It had been a long time since she’d smiled like that.

Having Chu Mo by her side made her feel safe. Without him, she honestly wasn’t sure how she would’ve survived in this cruel place.

“We’ll definitely make it out of here alive,” Chu Mo said, smiling back at her. “This journey has been rough, but it’s been worth it. We’ve been tested by real life and death. You and I… we’ve truly survived together.”

Xia Yu nodded quietly. These past months had changed her—her strength, her resolve, even her personality had grown.

“It’s all thanks to you, Senior Brother Chu Mo,” she said. “Even if it’s hard, it’s been worth it for me too.”

“For you… I’d go through worse,” Chu Mo replied warmly.

“Thank you,” she said again, her voice filled with emotion.

Then, Chu Mo gently took her hands in his and looked her in the eyes. “Yu, do you remember what I told you before?”

Xia Yu’s breath caught slightly.

“I said… I hoped you would be the one I could protect for a lifetime,” Chu Mo said quietly. “Now I ask again—will you let me protect you, for the rest of our lives?”

Xia Yu’s expression froze. She couldn’t answer.

Refusing didn’t feel right. Accepting didn’t feel right either.

Chu Mo was everything a girl could want—kind, strong, protective—but…

In her heart, it was still Ling Kong.

That man—distant and untouchable—was the one she couldn’t forget. And perhaps because of that, her desire to conquer him, to make him kneel like Chu Mo did, had only grown stronger.

It wasn’t just affection anymore.

Conquering Ling Kong had become her greatest goal.

“Senior Brother Chu Mo… can I give you an answer after we leave this place?” she said softly.

“I promise, once we’re outside, I’ll tell you everything.”

She didn’t want to reject him. But something deep inside told her he wasn’t the one she was meant to walk with forever.

Chu Mo was warm—but he wasn’t the flame she chased.
