Chapter 38: Kicked Her Over With One Blow!

Zhang Xiaofeng immediately wanted to turn and leave. He didn’t know how to face Grandma. To be honest, Grandma had always treated him well, though they hadn’t seen each other often. To avoid an awkward meeting, he decided not to approach and quickly walked away.

From a distance, Su Yuebai shouted loudly, “Husband! I’m here, please come see us! Grandma and I came early this morning, and we’ve been waiting bitterly for you until now. Don’t go—can’t you meet us just once?…”

Her voice was so loud that many passersby turned to look.

Zhang Xiaofeng glanced at Grandma from afar and cursed under his breath, “Damn Su woman, always trying to embarrass me!”

If Grandma hadn’t come, he could’ve just turned around and left without a second thought. But now that she was here, whether he went over or not, it would be awkward. That woman was despicable!

In the end, he couldn’t ignore Grandma and walked over.

Standing before her, Zhang Xiaofeng said softly, “Grandma, your legs aren’t well. Why did you come out so early?”

Grandma was old and couldn’t walk much. She always leaned on a cane, yet she stood here waiting for him. Did that woman named Su not even care about Grandma’s health? Idiot!

Grandma looked at Zhang Xiaofeng and gently persuaded, “Xiaofeng, I’m old now and can’t do much anymore. I’m happy you came to see me. I brought you a red envelope—please take it.”

As she spoke, she took out a thick red envelope and handed it to him.

Zhang Xiaofeng couldn’t possibly accept it. He quickly refused, “Grandma, I’m no longer part of the Su Family. I can’t take this.”

“It’s alright. The day you moved into our house, I was hospitalized and didn’t get to see you or give you a red envelope. This is our local custom. It’s the same in your hometown, right? When a groom enters the house for the first time, or a bride does, the elders should give a red envelope. Please take it.”

Zhang Xiaofeng said, “No. I’ve already moved out of the Su Family. I’m not their son-in-law anymore. I can’t take this money.”

Just by glancing at the envelope, he knew there must be around 20,000 to 30,000 yuan in it. He really needed money to open a store now, but he wasn’t shameless, nor was he spineless!

Grandma let out a long sigh and tried again, “Xiaofeng, it was our fault. Please, just take it.”

Zhang Xiaofeng replied righteously and made it clear, “Grandma, taking it would mean I forgive her. It would mean I’ve gone back to kneel before the Su Family. I won’t kneel anymore! I used to have no dignity, no status, nothing—but I endured it all for that woman. Now, even if someone puts 1 million in front of me, I won’t blink. That’s all I have to say. Please don’t try to persuade me anymore. Go home!”

Grandma sighed again, awkwardly putting the red envelope away. She said, “Xiaofeng, will you come back home? Xiaoyue was ignorant before. She was spoiled from a young age and always willful. Don’t take it to heart. Quarrels between husband and wife are normal. Please come back, okay?”

“Sorry, Grandma, I’m no longer her husband. If you keep saying that, I won’t call you Grandma anymore!” Zhang Xiaofeng said in a deep voice.

Grandma was shocked, then lowered her head with a heavy sigh.

She felt miserable. She understood everything, but she still wanted Xiaofeng to come home. Yet deep down, she knew she no longer had the face to ask him to…

Zhang Xiaofeng didn’t even glance at Su Yuebai. Now that he had finished speaking to Grandma, there was no reason to stay. He turned and left.

“Husband! Don’t leave me. I was wrong!” Su Yuebai quickly caught up, clinging to Zhang Xiaofeng in public and crying her heart out.

Zhang Xiaofeng felt utterly disgusted. He yanked her off and said coldly, “What does your mistake have to do with me? I think you weren’t wrong—it was all my fault!”

“No! You weren’t wrong! It was my fault—really, all my fault!”

Zhang Xiaofeng sneered in rage. Ignoring the shocked gazes of the crowd, he shouted, “I said it the day I left your house—it was my fault. I should never have dated you. I should never have reached beyond my station. Everything was my fault. Now I realize I was never worthy of you. You’re a rich, high-born heiress. I’m just a poor guy from the Northwest. Why did you even bother with me? Me? I’m not worthy! Get lost!”

Tears streamed down Su Yuebai’s face like rain. Her lips trembled as she pleaded, “Husband, don’t be like this. I know you’re saying the opposite of what you feel. Please, I’m begging you. Come home with me, okay? We really need you…”

“Bullshit! You don’t need me at all! Stop spouting crap in front of me. I’m busy—get lost!” With that, Zhang Xiaofeng strode away.

Su Yuebai followed like a shadow, hugging his waist and crying, “Husband, don’t go. Let’s just say it’s all your fault. We’ll never let you be wrong again. Please come back with me—I beg you!…”

SMACK!!

A loud slap landed squarely on Su Yuebai’s face in full view of the crowd. No mercy. Her cheek instantly swelled and burned with pain.

She clutched her face with one hand, tears pouring like melting ice.

“H-Husband… you hit me. Go ahead and hit me again, as long as it makes you feel better, you can hit me all you want…”

SMACK!!

Another slap cracked across her face. Su Yuebai’s tears and snot burst forth as her face turned red and swollen. She covered her cheeks, standing there crying in agony.

“Slapping you doesn’t mean I forgive you. You even brought Grandma along? Don’t you feel ashamed? Get the hell out of my sight!”

Su Yuebai cried like a torrential downpour. Her heart felt like it had been cleaved by an axe, crushed by a meteor, suffocating with pain too deep for breath.

“Husband… are you satisfied now? Will you forgive me? I’ll let you hit me for the rest of my life. Wherever, however many times, I won’t be mad. Just come home, okay?”

She opened her arms and hugged Zhang Xiaofeng again.

“Do you believe I’ll kick you to death?!”

Zhang Xiaofeng shouted angrily.

Su Yuebai was frightened. She quickly let go, staring at him in a daze.

Zhang Xiaofeng let out a cold snort and strode off.

You pushed me to the edge. Even if I die, I won’t forgive you!

As for the child—who knows if it’s even mine!

“Waaaaaah!!!!” Su Yuebai collapsed to the ground, sobbing loudly as she stared at his retreating back.

There were so many people watching, on the street, across the road, even from the windows above—countless faces looking her way. But Su Yuebai no longer cared about her pride. None of it mattered anymore. All she felt now was unbearable heartbreak, like her insides were being torn apart, tears streaming endlessly.

Grandma looked at the scene and let out another sorrowful sigh. Her eyes brimmed with tears, her old face wet with grief.

Her granddaughter had just been slapped hard in public several times and nearly kicked to the ground. Now she was hugging her head and crying like a child. But there was nothing Grandma could do. It was her granddaughter who had mistreated Zhang Xiaofeng, forcing him to this point.

And she couldn’t call the police either—otherwise, he would never return, not even if it killed him.
