Chapter 1: I Want a Divorce!

Tiannan City, Yujiang Villas.

“Chaolu, can we talk?”

The bedroom door stood open. Zhao Xinnian knocked lightly on the doorframe and spoke in a calm voice.

Inside the bedroom, Qin Chaolu was on the phone with someone, a faint smile gracing her breathtakingly beautiful face. However, the moment she heard Zhao Xinnian’s voice, that smile instantly froze.

She frowned and covered the phone’s microphone with one hand. Her tone turned impatient as she said, “Can’t you see I’m on the phone? Get out!”

Zhao Xinnian smiled faintly and said, “I’m afraid I can’t. It’s important. We need to talk now.”

Qin Chaolu had no idea why he had suddenly become so forceful. After hesitating for a moment, she finally ended the call. She pointed toward the sofa beside the bed and said coldly, “Sit down. Talk.”

They had been married for seven years, yet she had always been this aloof.

Even when she could no longer hold herself back, she would bite her lip and force herself not to make a sound.

Zhao Xinnian sat down on the sofa and sighed inwardly. After so many years, he had still failed to enter her heart. Since that was the case, there was no reason to continue this marriage.

At that moment, Qin Chaolu’s phone screen flashed briefly. The contact name displayed on it was a single, extremely unusual and painfully conspicuous word.

“Him.”

Perhaps only when she was talking to that man would his usually aloof wife reveal such a smile.

Noticing Zhao Xinnian staring at her, Qin Chaolu frowned and said unhappily, “Why do you keep staring at me? Is there something on my face?”

Zhao Xinnian took out an old document and smiled. “Seven years have passed before we even realized it. The term written in this agreement has already expired. Don’t you think it’s time we settled things between us?”

Qin Chaolu froze. Her expression immediately darkened as she stood up and snatched the agreement from his hand. “Why did you dig this out? I thought it had disappeared years ago.”

Qin Chaolu was twenty-nine years old this year. Her face was flawless, exquisitely beautiful and radiant. Over the years since her marriage, her figure had grown somewhat fuller compared to when she was younger. Her hips were high and rounded, like a ripe peach.

Her impressive bust had also reached an exaggerated E-cup. At the moment, she was wearing a pale purple silk nightgown. As she moved, the generous curves beneath the thin fabric were faintly visible, trembling slightly with every motion.

Clearly, she wasn’t wearing anything underneath.

Of course, there was nothing unusual about dressing comfortably at home. Still, Zhao Xinnian couldn’t help taking another couple of glances. After all, it wouldn’t be long before those soft, snow-white treasures would no longer be so generously available to him.

Qin Chaolu looked over the contents of the agreement, her brows gradually drawing together.

When she graduated from university, she had unexpectedly run into Zhao Xinnian, her former high school deskmate. Then, through another unexpected turn of events, they slept together, and she somehow ended up giving him her first time.

What was even more unexpected was that she became pregnant after that single encounter.

In the end, she approached Zhao Xinnian and proposed a contractual marriage, with the condition that they would never have sex again.

Zhao Xinnian happened to be going through the most difficult period of his life at the time, so he made a demand of his own, 500,000 yuan per year.

Thus, the two happily entered into a marriage of convenience, each getting what they needed.

As for what happened after the wedding…

Only half a month later, on a dark and windy night, Zhao Xinnian broke the terms of their agreement.

Afterward, Qin Chaolu stared at their marriage certificate and could only accept what had happened with tears in her eyes.

So, although they slept in separate rooms, they still ended up together at least once every month. Depending on what each of them needed… that number would occasionally increase.

Just like that, their daughter, Zhao Leyan, grew up little by little while the days quietly passed.

Before either of them realized it, seven years had gone by.

Even Qin Chaolu had forgotten that the agreement existed.

In truth, Zhao Xinnian had forgotten about it too.

Unfortunately, one week ago, when he saw Qin Chaolu wearing that particular smile, Zhao Xinnian immediately understood that the person who truly occupied his wife’s heart had finally appeared.

Zhao Xinnian had no habit of willingly being cheated on. Their marriage had been contractual from the beginning. Over seven years, he had received 3.5 million yuan, which was just enough to repay the debts his father had left behind after his death. On top of that, he had gained his adorable daughter, Yanyan.

He was already satisfied.

After finishing the agreement, Qin Chaolu finally looked up and asked coldly, “Why did you suddenly bring this out? What exactly are you trying to say?”

Zhao Xinnian replied, “The agreement was supposed to last five years. We’ve already gone well past that, so don’t you think it’s time we completed the necessary procedures?”

“You…”

Qin Chaolu finally understood what he meant. Her eyes widened, and anger surged across her face as she demanded, “You want to divorce me?”

Zhao Xinnian nodded and said, “Keep your voice down. Mom and Wanshuang are downstairs. It wouldn’t be good if they heard us.”

The house was enormous, a duplex spanning more than 400 square meters in total.

Besides their family of three, Qin Chaolu’s younger sister, Qin Wanshuang, and his mother-in-law, Qin Fengjiao, also lived here.

As for his father-in-law… Zhao Xinnian had never met him. Naturally, he wasn’t the type to meddle in other people’s affairs by asking questions.

Anger flickered in Qin Chaolu’s eyes, and her beautiful cheeks flushed red as she said, “Give me a reason!”

“A reason?”

Zhao Xinnian thought for a moment, then suddenly reached for her phone.

Qin Chaolu tried to stop him, but she was already too late.

After seven years of marriage, Zhao Xinnian naturally knew his wife’s phone password. He unlocked it immediately and opened WeChat.

Sure enough, there was a pinned conversation at the very top.

Qin Chaolu’s expression changed as she exclaimed, “Don’t look!”

However, the smile on Zhao Xinnian’s face had already turned cold. He opened the conversation without hesitation.

Even though he had mentally prepared himself, the messages on the screen still sent a dull ache through his chest.

[Morning, Awei!]

[Haha, morning, Lulu!]

…

[When are you coming back to China?]

[Soon. Just thinking about finally seeing you again makes me excited. What about you? Do you miss me?]

Qin Chaolu had taken a long time to reply, as though she had hesitated over her answer.

Eventually, she replied with a single word.

[Yes.]

Zhao Xinnian silently clenched his fist. A cold smile appeared on his face as he asked, “Is this reason enough?”

A trace of panic flashed across Qin Chaolu’s face, but she quickly regained her composure. She snatched the phone back and said, “You want to divorce me over something this trivial? He and I aren’t what you think. When I said I missed him, I only meant that we’re old friends who haven’t seen each other in a long time, so naturally I want to see him again.”

Zhao Xinnian nodded and said, “Fine. Then I’ll give you a chance. I don’t like this man. Delete him right now and promise me that you’ll never meet him again. Can you do that?”

“Why should I?”

Qin Chaolu answered without even thinking, her voice turning icy. “Zhao Xinnian, what gives you the right to interfere with my relationships?”

“Haha, you can’t even make a choice when there are only two options, yet you’re still trying to argue? If I’m not mistaken, this ‘him’… should be Zhuang Ziwei, right? Your first love who abandoned you back then and disappeared without giving your relationship any proper ending?”

Zhao Xinnian mercilessly tore away the last layer of pretense between them.

“Nonsense! What first love have I ever had?” Qin Chaolu immediately retorted.

Zhao Xinnian said, “Fine, then he’s your unforgettable crush? Either way, now that he’s suddenly coming back, he’s either after you or your money. I suggest you be careful around him.”

Qin Chaolu’s eyes instantly reddened as she shouted angrily, “Shut up! You don’t understand him at all! He isn’t that kind of person. He had his reasons for leaving back then!”

“So you admit it? You still can’t forget him, and you still have feelings for him?”

A mocking smile curled across Zhao Xinnian’s lips.

Qin Chaolu fell silent.

Only after a long while did she finally say indifferently, “Zhao Xinnian, say whatever you want. I won’t agree to a divorce, and Yanyan won’t agree either.”

“This is between us. Don’t drag Yanyan into it.”

Zhao Xinnian’s expression instantly turned cold as he said, “Do me a favor and read the final clause of the agreement.”

With a grim expression, Qin Chaolu lowered her eyes toward the final clause.

[Note: After marriage, if either party becomes dissatisfied with married life, that party has the right to terminate the marriage at any time. The other party may not obstruct the decision.]

Zhao Xinnian said coldly, “You wrote this clause yourself. Back then, you were probably thinking you could use me to get through a few years, then divorce me whenever your Awei came back, weren’t you?”

Qin Chaolu closed her eyes.

A long while passed before she opened them again.

She stared directly at Zhao Xinnian and enunciated each word clearly, “You want a divorce, right? Fine. I agree. Just don’t regret it when the time comes!”

“Only a damn bastard would regret it!”

“You…”

Qin Chaolu’s face flushed crimson with rage.
