I Divorced My Stunning Wife and Now She Wants Me Back - Chapter 5:
Chapter 5: We Just Got Divorced, and You Already Brought Him Home?
The man she had kept buried in her heart for so many years had suddenly appeared right in front of her.
It was difficult to describe what Qin Chaolu was feeling at that moment.
Her heart pounded wildly as she stared at Zhuang Ziwei. Despite her breathtakingly beautiful face, her stunned expression made her look almost adorably dazed.
On the stage, Zhuang Ziwei continued playing with deep emotion. Their eyes met, and an ambiguous atmosphere gradually spread between them.
Seconds turned into minutes.
When the song finally ended, Zhuang Ziwei slowly walked over and extended his hand toward Qin Chaolu.
The bar wasn’t very large.
At that moment, however, everyone’s attention was focused on the two of them.
Perhaps the people around them thought they were a young couple who had endured countless hardships and were finally about to end up together. Everyone watched with smiles and blessings in their eyes, and no one made a sound to ruin the beautiful atmosphere.
“Lulu, I’m back!” Zhuang Ziwei said with a smile as his hand was about to touch Qin Chaolu’s soft, fair palm.
At that critical moment, however, two figures suddenly appeared in Qin Chaolu’s mind.
One was Zhao Xinnian.
The other was their daughter, Zhao Leyan.
Qin Chaolu instantly snapped out of her daze as if awakening from a dream. For some inexplicable reason, a wave of guilt suddenly rose in her heart.
She lowered her head and casually picked up the wineglass on the table. Using the motion as a cover, she naturally avoided Zhuang Ziwei’s outstretched hand.
“When did you get back? When we talked on the phone yesterday, you said it would still be a while,” Qin Chaolu asked after taking a sip of wine.
Zhuang Ziwei was somewhat disappointed that he hadn’t managed to hold her hand. However, he could still hear the pleasant surprise in her voice, so he knew all the romantic preparations he had made today hadn’t gone to waste.
Smiling, he explained, “I was going to tell you, but Zhenzhen said it would be better to surprise you. Actually, I was already on the plane shortly after we ended our call yesterday.”
Qin Chaolu turned toward Zheng Zhenzhen and complained playfully, “So the two of you teamed up to deceive me!”
“How could you call it that? We just wanted to make you happy,” Zheng Zhenzhen replied with a grin.
A smile appeared on Qin Chaolu’s lips. She looked at Zhuang Ziwei and said, “Fine. I really am happy!”
She felt as though the sense of loss she had experienced after the divorce had faded considerably at that moment.
…
After figuring out how the system worked, Zhao Xinnian got busy.
There was no need to rush the mission. Whenever he happened to run into Qin Chaolu, he could simply ask her for her contact information.
Right now, the most important thing was preparing a place to live.
Since they were already divorced, Zhao Xinnian naturally had no intention of continuing to live at Yujiang Villas.
Fortunately, there was living space above the convenience store.
No. 7 Convenience Store had two floors with a total area of approximately 120 square meters.
There was a bed upstairs, but the place was rather dirty and cluttered because it was normally used as a storage area.
Thus, Zhao Xinnian spent the entire day cleaning the upper floor.
If he were living there alone, he wouldn’t have cared much. However, if Yanyan was going to sleep there, he naturally wanted the place to be clean.
On top of that, customers occasionally came into the store downstairs, forcing Zhao Xinnian to constantly run back and forth between the two floors. By the afternoon, he was so exhausted that he collapsed into his boss chair and didn’t want to move a muscle.
[Wow! As expected of my handsome and elegant Host. Your stamina is amazing!]
The system seized every opportunity to flatter him.
The corner of Zhao Xinnian’s mouth twitched. “You must have been a professional flatterer in your previous life.”
After resting for a while, he went upstairs again, fetched a bucket of water, and wiped down everything that needed cleaning. Only then was the job finally complete.
Zhao Xinnian stood with his hands on his hips and looked around his bedroom, nodding in satisfaction.
This little home of his finally felt somewhat warm and comfortable.
Once he brought his daughter over, life here could still be simple and happy.
Later that afternoon, just as Zhao Xinnian was preparing to pick up his daughter, Qin Chaolu called him first.
“Hm?” Zhao Xinnian answered the phone and asked, “What is it?”
Qin Chaolu replied calmly, “I’ll pick up Yanyan today.”
Zhao Xinnian frowned slightly but still nodded. “All right.”
“That’s it.”
Qin Chaolu hung up decisively.
Zhao Xinnian wasn’t angry. Before their divorce, they had already agreed that both of them would share responsibility for their daughter. Neither would fight for custody, and Yanyan could stay with whichever parent she wanted.
By evening, Zhao Xinnian closed the convenience store, got on another shared bicycle, and headed toward Yujiang Villas.
Yanyan should have finished dinner by now. If she wanted to stay with him tonight, he would take her back with him.
Of course, the main reason for this visit was to pack up his belongings and bring them back to the convenience store.
Their divorce had simply happened too quickly. It had been so abrupt that neither of them had made many preparations.
After all, they had still slept together the night before their divorce.
What preparations could they possibly have made?
Before long, Zhao Xinnian arrived at Yujiang Villas.
Standing outside the familiar house, he instinctively raised his hand to unlock the door with his fingerprint.
After thinking about it, however, Zhao Xinnian lowered his hand and rang the doorbell instead.
“Who is it?” His mother-in-law, Qin Fengjiao, called from inside.
Zhao Xinnian was just about to answer when a man’s voice came from within.
“Aunt, you should rest. I’ll get the door.”
Hearing that voice, Zhao Xinnian froze slightly.
However, he wasn’t given much time to think before the door in front of him opened.
Standing inside was a handsome man dressed in a white suit.
In Zhao Xinnian’s opinion, the man was only slightly less handsome than himself.
Zhuang Ziwei!
Zhao Xinnian had seen photos of him long ago. What he hadn’t expected was that the moment his divorce was finalized, this man would already be welcomed into the house.
But now…
It had nothing to do with him anymore.
Zhao Xinnian remained calm. His gaze passed over Zhuang Ziwei and landed on the people inside.
The instant Qin Chaolu saw Zhao Xinnian, a trace of panic flashed across her face. She looked almost as though she had been caught doing something shameful.
Qin Fengjiao, meanwhile, merely glanced at him before paying him no further attention.
“You must be… Mr. Zhao, right?” Zhuang Ziwei asked.
He was also briefly stunned before smiling and extending his hand toward Zhao Xinnian.
His fingers were fair and slender, and his hands were clearly well maintained. One glance was enough to tell that he came from a wealthy family.
Zhao Xinnian didn’t shake his hand.
He simply felt that there was no possibility of his relationship with Zhuang Ziwei ever developing in a positive direction. Since that was the case, whether they shook hands or not hardly mattered.
Zhuang Ziwei didn’t seem embarrassed. He maintained his smile and continued, “Don’t misunderstand. Lulu mentions you to me quite often.”
Zhao Xinnian merely glanced at him before calling out, “Yanyan!”
“Daddy!”
A little figure suddenly appeared from somewhere and came bouncing toward him. She squeezed straight past Zhuang Ziwei and leaped directly into Zhao Xinnian’s arms.
Qin Chaolu also walked over. Looking somewhat awkward, she asked, “Zhao Xinnian, why… are you here?”
“I came to pack my things,” Zhao Xinnian replied casually while holding his daughter.
Qin Chaolu froze slightly.
Only then did she remember that they were already divorced.
Zhao Xinnian was here to pack his belongings. Once he left, perhaps… he would never live in this house again.
The thought made Qin Chaolu’s heart tremble.
Zhao Xinnian, however, paid no attention to her expression. Carrying his daughter upstairs, he began packing his belongings.
“Yanyan, how about sleeping at Daddy’s convenience store tonight?” Zhao Xinnian casually asked.
Zhao Leyan’s eyes immediately lit up. She clapped her hands excitedly and exclaimed, “Yes, yes! I love going to Daddy’s convenience store!”
Footsteps sounded behind them.
It was Qin Chaolu.
She pursed her lips before explaining, “Awei returned to China today. He said he wanted to visit Mom… so I invited him to stay for dinner while he was here.”
“Mm.”
Zhao Xinnian nodded indifferently.
Yet that reaction immediately irritated Qin Chaolu.
She snatched the things from Zhao Xinnian’s hands and gritted her teeth. “What is that ‘mm’ supposed to mean? If you have something to say, then say it directly. Stop acting so damn sarcastic!”
