Chapter 16: Playing the Little Doggy

Chi Yanyun watched as Xiao Qingchen still foolishly held the Dragon Blood Grass, feeling utterly humiliated from beginning to end. The Dragon Blood Grass might suit Bai Qiluo, but compared to the Heavenly Fortune Jade Pendant, it was worth almost nothing!

Giving a child a toy car would make them happy. Give them a sports car, and they’d be dumbfounded. But the parents would be ecstatic! Even if sold immediately, it could buy thousands of toy cars! Any parent would know the better choice.

Madam Hua wanted the pendant, but the child’s hands moved faster than an imperial weapon. Bai Qiluo shrank back and hugged the jade pendant tightly. “No! This was given to me by my husband!”

Madam Hua asked, “Why are you calling him husband?”

Bai Qiluo replied confidently, “Mommy said so. She called him husband.”

Madam Hua was speechless. “His name is Su Yun. He’s your future husband!”

Bai Qiluo blinked and replied, “Oh.”

Taking advantage of her distracted moment, Madam Hua quickly grabbed the jade pendant and shoved it back into Su Yun’s hands.

Xiao Qingchen’s anger flared as he clenched his teeth. She was supposed to be his future wife—he was the one who should be her husband!

Chi Yanyun burned with rage. She suddenly stood, stormed over to Su Yun, and reached out. “Give me the pendant.”

But Su Yun was faster. Like a flash, he hid it behind his back. “Ow! What are you doing!”

Chi Yanyun pressed aggressively, “Give the pendant to your brother. He is Bai Qiluo’s future husband. As a younger brother, you need to be mature and not cause trouble!”

As she spoke, she reached out again to grab it.

“Stop!” Xi Yaoyue stood up, her gaze sharp. “Chi Yanyun, what are you doing?”

Chi Yanyun’s eyes were bloodshot, full of greed. “Doing what? Qingchen is the Su family’s heir and has a marriage contract with the Bai family! If Su Yun wants to be part of the Su family, he must be ready to sacrifice!”

“Su Yun, give the jade pendant to your brother. In the future, Brother Qingchen will give you a chubby little nephew!”

Xi Yaoyue was so furious she laughed. “Who actually has the marriage contract with the Bai family isn’t something you get to decide.”

Chi Yanyun stiffened her neck. “Then you tell me, who really has the Su family bloodline?”

“Letting Su Yun join the Bai family goes against both families’ ancestors!”

Xi Yaoyue bit her lip, a trace of gloom in her heart. Su Yun did seem to be at a disadvantage when it came to bloodline. How she wished this clever and obedient child, raised on milk, carried her own blood.

If Su Yun’s descendants could be considered Su family blood, what about the marriage alliance with the Bai family? Surely the Bai family couldn’t knowingly let their daughter marry someone outside the Su lineage?

Madam Hua noticed the tense atmosphere and quickly stepped in. “Hehe, ladies, let’s all calm down.”

“I think Madam Xi has a point. The children are still too young. It’s too early to talk about marriage.”

“Besides, both your gifts are far too extravagant. The Bai family cannot accept them.”

“Just let the children play. Whether they like each other or not can only be known through interaction.”

“Let the children decide their own matters.”

She contradicted her earlier stance and returned both mothers’ gifts.

Xi Yaoyue felt conflicted. The Heavenly Fortune Jade Pendant was too valuable—whether to give it or not, there were pros and cons. But Chi Yanyun was filled with resentment as she took back the brocade box, her heart bleeding.

She glared at Lin Ying’er, wishing she could skin her alive.

It was this woman who had made her spend her entire fortune to buy the Dragon Blood Grass from a black market merchant. The Xiao family was no match for the Su family. They didn’t have the resources to spare.

Now the Dragon Blood Grass hadn’t even been given away. She couldn’t eat it, couldn’t keep it, and was stuck with a heavy loss!

Lin Ying’er stared at the jade pendant returned to Su Yun, her fists clenched so tightly they cracked.

“That was mine. That should have been mine!” The Heavenly Fortune Jade Pendant—an artifact even supreme experts would covet!

If the Minister of War weren’t in the Great Qian Empire, the major factions would have already torn it apart!

This divine item could enhance Fortune. If worn, even the most perilous lands would become smooth paths. Maybe in the final battle, it could bring luck and save her from the explosion.

She might survive and become ruler of the Myriad Realms.

But now, standing behind Chi Yanyun, Lin Ying’er received nothing but angry glares.

“If only… if only I hadn’t left Su Yun so early.”

“If I were still by his side, I could’ve stolen the jade pendant.”

“That fool could even give away the Heavenly Fortune Jade Pendant. He’d never notice if I took it.”

“If I had it, I could uncover the secret realm early and seize its fortune!”

Lin Ying’er was filled with frustration and fury. “Why is he so resilient? Why won’t he just die?”

“Could it be… even the Demon Lord has his own Fortune?”

“Is that how he survived to the end and battled the Child of Destiny?”

Bai Qiluo didn’t understand the adults’ complex thoughts and really led the two boys out to play.

After circling the courtyard, the little girl asked, “Brother, what should we play?”

Su Yun pointed to the cold war sword gifted by General Wang. “Let’s play with this!”

Bai Qiluo wrinkled her nose. “No way.”

She turned to Xiao Qingchen with anticipation. “What do you want to play?”

Xiao Qingchen had experienced the innocence of children in this life, but he always considered himself a supreme being and refused to be bound by his body. Relying on sheer willpower, he had suppressed his childlike instincts.

All his earlier childish behavior was just an act. Now asked what games children play, he was completely clueless.

“I don’t know.” He forced a smile but kept a close eye on Su Yun.

This brat had ruined his grand plan. He had to be eliminated! Unfortunately, the guards were watching, and there was no chance to make a move.

He had to endure humiliation and bide his time.

Just playing with a few kids… he could bear it!

Bai Qiluo saw they had no ideas and wasn’t disappointed. “Then let’s play house!”

Su Yun and Xiao Qingchen both nodded.

Bai Qiluo said, “I’ll be the mom.”

Both nodded again.

She pointed at Su Yun. “You’ll be the dad.”

Xiao Qingchen immediately objected. “Why does he get to be the dad?”

Bai Qiluo looked innocent. “Because he’s my husband.”

Xiao Qingchen grew more upset. “I… I’m the one who’s your future husband!”

Bai Qiluo couldn’t quite understand why there were two husbands. After thinking for a moment, she answered honestly, “He looks better.”

Xiao Qingchen froze. “What about me?”

Bai Qiluo looked at him seriously. “You’re funny.”

Xiao Qingchen’s temple veins bulged.

“Endure it. Endure it. She’s just a child. Stay calm.”

He tried to reassure himself, forcing a smile. “Then what am I supposed to be?”

Bai Qiluo thought for a moment. “Then you can be Xiao Hei.”

Xiao Qingchen was stunned. “What’s Xiao Hei?”

Then he realized—Xiao Hei was the dog!

Xiao Qingchen felt his brain explode. His blood vessels throbbed as he growled, “What did you say?”

Bai Qiluo answered naturally, “We have a mom, a dad, and Xiao Hei. So you’re Xiao Hei.”

Xiao Qingchen gritted his teeth. “I’m not playing the dog!”

He was a dignified Emperor. How could he be someone else’s dog—even if it was his future wife?

Bai Qiluo simply said, “Oh,” then took Su Yun’s arm. “Then the two of us will play.”

“Wait!” Xiao Qingchen panted heavily, eyes bloodshot as he glared at Su Yun.

“Endure it. I have to endure. I couldn’t give away the Dragon Blood Grass, so I can only build a bond by playing.”

“Kids at this age don’t think that deeply.”

“Fine. I’ll play!”

Xiao Qingchen’s voice was hoarse. “Okay. I’ll play Xiao Hei.”

Bai Qiluo clapped and giggled. “Haha, even your voice sounds like Xiao Hei!”

Inside the room, the Madams looked at one another in astonishment.

Chi Yanyun’s face was dark as she gripped the armrest tightly.

Why did that brat get to play the dad, while her son had to be the dog?

Madam Hua gave an awkward laugh. “Ahem, kids just say whatever. They’re not thinking that much. They just think it’s fun.”

Xi Yaoyue sipped her tea, suppressing a smile.

See? Everyone knows my Yun’er is good-looking.

Wait, no—I shouldn’t be so biased.

Well, I guess being funny is a compliment too…

While the Madams chatted, the children moved on to their second round.

Bai Qiluo said, “I’ll be the mom, Brother Yun will be the dad!”

Xiao Qingchen was prepared this time and brought Xiao Hei with him. He proudly said, “Xiao Hei is here, so I won’t be playing the dog this time!”

Chi Yanyun relaxed when she heard this.

Her son playing another girl’s dog was disgraceful!

Even if he wasn’t a real dog!

Bai Qiluo blinked and said, “Alright, then Xiao Hei can be Xiao Hei himself. That means you…”

Xiao Qingchen crossed his arms and smiled proudly.

Bai Qiluo giggled, “Since Brother Yun and I are mom and dad, you can be with Xiao Hei.”

“You play Xiao Hei’s wife!”

Xiao Qingchen: “???”
