Chapter 3: New Mission

At Tengyuan Building, Gu Qingyi returned straight to her CEO office.

Her secretary, who had just been about to clock out, quickly approached when she saw her boss return—especially holding a bouquet of roses. She took the roses from Gu Qingyi and asked, “CEO Gu, did Lin Yuan send these again? Should I throw them out?”

“Don’t throw them away today. Find a vase and arrange them for me.”

“Huh?” The secretary looked at her in shock. In the past, CEO Gu always disliked anything Lin Yuan sent. She even had to wash her hands after touching his gifts. What changed?

“I accepted his confession, so we’re now in a relationship. Just keep the flowers for now.”

“What?!” The secretary stared at her blankly.

“CEO Gu, have you lost your mind? Do you know what kind of person Lin Yuan is in North City? Arrogant, lawless, and rotten to the core. How could you agree to his confession?”

The secretary truly felt sorry for Gu Qingyi. Her boss was talented and beautiful. She deserved someone far better.

“This isn’t something you should concern yourself with. Just do what I asked. And listen carefully—keep an eye on the office door. No one is allowed in, no matter who it is.”

After giving her instructions, Gu Qingyi went straight into her office. To be extra cautious, she even locked the door behind her before hurrying to her desk and powering on her computer.

As soon as the computer booted up, she saw a newly created folder labeled [Tengyuan Group Internal Spy List].

She clicked it open. A long list of names appeared before her eyes. Not just names—each entry included detailed records of their acts of betrayal against the company.

“It’s real!”

Gu Qingyi was overwhelmed with emotion. With this list and all its details, she could finally start cleansing the company from the inside.

But then she saw one name that completely stunned her.

“Chen Zhibao… I didn’t expect even him—a founding elder of the company—to be involved in betraying us!”

Gu Qingyi clenched her fists tightly.

Tengyuan Group had been founded by her grandfather and a few of his close friends. Chen Zhibao was one of them. Now her grandfather had retired and passed the CEO position to her, but Chen Zhibao remained on the board and still received annual dividends from the company.

“Despicable traitor…”

Gu Qingyi slammed her delicate fist onto the desk.

[System mission released. Host must head to Wanjia Plaza and have a chance encounter with Lin Yuan. Shop with him for two hours. Mission reward: all of Chen Zhibao’s shares.]

The strange voice echoed once more in her mind.

“Why are all these system missions related to Lin Yuan?” Gu Qingyi frowned, but she couldn’t deny the reward was tempting.

If she could obtain all of Chen Zhibao’s shares, she could kick this parasite out of Tengyuan Group and further secure her position.

“For the sake of the company, I’ll endure it!” she muttered as she clenched her fists again. Then she shut down her computer and left the office.

“CEO Gu, I’ve arranged the roses in a vase as you instructed,” the secretary said, presenting the neatly arranged bouquet.

“Good, just leave it on my desk. You can go home now.”

“Yes, CEO Gu.”

Gu Qingyi then went to the parking garage, ready to drive to Wanjia Plaza.

Just as she opened the car door and got into the driver’s seat, Long Haochen suddenly got into the passenger seat.

“When did you show up?” Gu Qingyi was startled by his sudden appearance and asked irritably.

“Qingyi, I’ve always been by your side,” Long Haochen said gently.

The words made her skin crawl. She rubbed her smooth arm with discomfort and said, “Get out. You’re not allowed in my car without my permission.”

“But aren’t you going home? Just take me along. If anything dangerous happens on the way, I can protect you.”

Long Haochen said it as if it were only natural.

“Long Haochen, do you want something to happen to me? So you can act like a hero saving a damsel in distress and I’ll suddenly change my opinion of you?”

She snapped, “Let me tell you something—this is a lawful society. The chances of me getting into danger are lower than the odds of you being hit by a car when you step outside. And yes, Grandpa let you stay in our house temporarily, but don’t mistake it for your own home. Now get out.”

Gu Qingyi was visibly angry.

Since Long Haochen came to the Gu household, her grandfather had been completely taken in by him. He praised him endlessly—more than his own granddaughter at times.

Sometimes she seriously wondered if Long Haochen was her grandfather’s illegitimate son.
