I Was Reborn as the Villain, but the System Bound Itself to the Female Leads - Chapter 59:
Chapter 59: I Have a Date Tomorrow
At the Chu residence’s living room, Chu Huarong stormed off furiously. On his way out, he even smashed a vase to vent his frustration.
Lin Yuan sighed inwardly and looked at Chu Lingxiu. How had things escalated to this point?
“Sister Lingxiu, didn’t you say you just needed a small favor? What’s going on now? Since when are we in a relationship? Why don’t I know anything about it?” he asked.
Chu Lingxiu smiled and looked at Lin Yuan’s distressed face. “It is a small favor. Lately, I’ve been getting pressured at home to get married. They’ve introduced me to dozens of blind dates. I needed a boyfriend to block them.”
“What the hell…” Lin Yuan was stunned.
It was true that Chu Lingxiu had been facing family pressure due to her age, and she’d been matched with countless blind dates, which she found extremely annoying. So, in the original plotline, she found a fake boyfriend to shield herself—and that person was the Child of Destiny, Long Haochen.
As the plot developed, the fake boyfriend gradually became a real one.
And now… he had taken Long Haochen’s place? He was Chu Lingxiu’s fake boyfriend?
“Little brother, when your sister asks for help, you wouldn’t say no, right?” Chu Lingxiu walked up to Lin Yuan and gently lifted his chin with her hand.
This kid had grown taller and stronger.
In her mind, Chu Lingxiu evaluated Lin Yuan—he now stood half a head taller than her. He used to be a little brat who was shorter than her.
Time really did fly.
“Sister Lingxiu, even if you asked me to climb mountains of blades or walk through fire, I wouldn’t complain. But this… this really puts me in a tough spot. Didn’t you see how angry Uncle Chu got?”
Lin Yuan had clearly seen the fury in Chu Huarong’s expression. That priceless vase had been smashed to bits—he was definitely enraged.
“Don’t worry about my dad. I’ll take care of him. You just need to play your role as my boyfriend. Got it?”
“Got it,” Lin Yuan nodded. He didn’t say anything more. Clearly, Sister Lingxiu had him cornered.
“Alright, I’m going to check on my dad. You head home first.” After saying that, Chu Lingxiu turned and walked toward the study. Since her dad had been so furious, she needed to go calm him down.
As soon as she left, Chu Haojie jumped up from the washboard and quickly wrapped an arm around Lin Yuan’s neck.
“Lin Yuan, you better go all out and win my sister for real. If you become my brother-in-law, I won’t be jealous at all,” Chu Haojie said with a grin.
He had heard the entire conversation between his sister and Lin Yuan. At first, he thought they were really dating. He hadn’t expected Lin Yuan was just a tool to fend off blind dates.
But that was fine. Start as a tool, then gradually win her over—it wasn’t impossible. Once Lin Yuan was officially with his sister, she’d be busy disciplining him every day and would leave Chu Haojie alone. He could then live freely—perfect plan.
Lin Yuan gave Chu Haojie a look. He knew exactly what this fat guy was scheming.
“You think I’m good enough for your sister?”
“Of course! Why wouldn’t you be? Lin Yuan, don’t look down on yourself. You may not be as handsome as I am, but you’re at least an eight out of ten. Totally acceptable.”
“Go kneel back on your washboard.”
Lin Yuan shoved Chu Haojie away, turned around, and walked out of the living room. He was heading home.
His mind was still buzzing, completely scrambled, like a ball of yarn a cat had just played with. He needed some peace and quiet.
“Lin Yuan, think it over! Getting my sister isn’t a loss!” Chu Haojie shouted from behind.
Lin Yuan drove away from the Chu residence. As the car sped along the road, streetlights flew past. He rolled down the window and let the night wind blow across his face, finally calming his thoughts a little.
He pulled over by the roadside, got out, leaned against the car, and stared off into the distance.
“Everything’s a mess.”
He looked up at the night sky. The twinkling stars seemed to be winking at him. He gave a bitter, helpless smile.
All of this chaos had started because of him.
“Oh well… I’ll just go with the flow.”
He stood in silence for a long while. Then he took a deep breath and adjusted his mood.
By the time he got back to the Lin residence, dinner had long since finished, and the dishes had been cleaned up.
“Where did you go?” Lin Tianxing looked at his son and asked.
He’d already heard from Xiao Bao that Lin Yuan had taken her to Tengyuan Group today. Then he left, came home briefly, and went out again.
“I had something to handle. Just went out for a bit,” Lin Yuan answered vaguely. He couldn’t exactly say he went to the Golden Splendor Club, then to the Chu residence, and ended up fake-dating Chu Lingxiu. His dad would never believe that. He’d just assume Lin Yuan had gone to mess around at the club again and come at him with a broom.
“Xiao Bao said you went to Tengyuan Group?”
“Yeah. Gu Qingyi needed help with something, so I went over for a bit,” Lin Yuan replied as he glanced at Xiao Bao. That little tattletale! Why did she tell everything? Looks like he needed to teach her about keeping secrets.
“Our family has its own company. What are you doing running around working for someone else’s?” Lin Tianxing said. “I’ve noticed you’ve changed a bit lately. Tomorrow, go to the company. I’ll arrange a position for you. It’s about time you started learning to take over.”
He was actually fairly satisfied with Lin Yuan’s behavior these past couple of days. The boy didn’t seem like the same irresponsible fool anymore. Since the company would eventually be Lin Yuan’s, it was a good time to begin easing him into things.
Mentioning that made him feel envious of Gu Qingyi and Chu Lingxiu. Both girls were already capable of leading their families. Meanwhile, his own son was still a good-for-nothing.
“I don’t know anything about the company. Besides, Dad, you’re still fit and capable—you can run things for another ten years at least. Let’s not rush. What if I mess up and lose money?”
Lin Yuan sat down beside his father.
“You’ll have to take over eventually. Better I help you steer things for a couple more years now than watch you run it into the ground later.”
“…”
Lin Yuan didn’t respond. He was deeply moved. His parents had worked hard their whole lives—all for him.
The way he used to be… he really wasn’t a decent person. Even earlier today, he’d still been selfish—leaving his parents to worry while he enjoyed an easy life. What kind of son was that?
They were getting older, yet still thinking about his future. He couldn’t stay selfish. He needed to let them enjoy their later years in peace.
“I understand, Dad. Let’s do as you say. But not tomorrow—make it the day after.”
“Why not tomorrow?”
“Because I have a date tomorrow,” Lin Yuan replied.
