I Was Reborn into the Past and Saved My Stunning Sister-in-Law at the Beginning - Chapter 25:
Chapter 25: Proctology Director, Century-old Ginseng!
In fact, Xu Feng had spotted the tusked boar even earlier than Jianjun. It wasn’t just because of the map—Xu Feng could see a faint red glow surrounding the boar.
If not for the dense forest blocking the moonlight, that red glow would have been hard to notice. Did this mean that anything marked on the map would have a unique glow?
Truly, it was a case of hiding in plain sight.
Xu Feng thought of how he had deliberately searched during broad daylight for Wang Xiuli’s treasure, but now it turned out he could have just closed the curtains to spot it?
Tonight, whether they caught the wild boar or not was already secondary. Xu Feng had made his biggest discovery yet.
Shou Shan didn’t notice the change in Xu Feng’s expression—his attention was fully focused on the boar.
Unfortunately, the boar was facing the other direction, and it would be hard to deliver a fatal shot from behind. If they tried to change position now, the beast might notice them. There was no time for Shou Shan to overthink.
Xu Feng steadily raised his gun and fired directly at the boar’s most vulnerable spot—the anus.
There was no armor there, right?
As the gunshot rang out, a blood-curdling roar followed immediately after, so loud that it startled all the birds nearby.
The power of the Hanyang-made rifle was formidable, and striking such a weak spot could literally cause the boar to die from sheer pain.
“Chase it! Be careful of its dying counterattack!” Even if they had to wear it down, they had to finish the boar tonight.
Jianjun, the archer, also began shooting arrows. Three arrows hit a piglet, ensuring they wiped out the entire litter today, so no piglets would miss their parents. The hunting dogs, smelling the blood, charged into the woods fiercely.
The path had been opened—tonight, they had to act like proctology experts.
After chasing for about fifteen minutes, the hunting dogs had engaged the tusked boar. They managed to kill three piglets, each weighing at least thirty kilograms, but the two remaining ones disappeared without a trace. As long as the big one couldn’t escape, everything else was secondary.
The boar’s vitality was astonishing. Even with three hunting dogs, they couldn’t bring it down. Shou Shan raised his rifle again and aimed at its head. Out of three shots, two missed, and the remaining one hit the belly.
He didn’t dare get too close, and the boar’s wild struggle made aiming difficult.
Jianjun grew anxious seeing this. Whether his wife could eat meat or not depended on this boar—they couldn’t let it escape tonight no matter what. He couldn’t help but get closer, pulling his bow to try and shoot the boar in the eye.
But hitting such a small target was easier said than done, and instead, it provoked the boar into a desperate counterattack.
It immediately abandoned the dogs and charged straight at Jianjun. “Watch out!” If the boar reached him, Jianjun’s life would be in serious danger. Shou Shan shouted urgently and fired his last two bullets.
The boar, seemingly determined to die together, ignored the bullets and lunged at Jianjun. If a shooter got caught up close by a wild boar, the outcome was predictable.
Even though Jianjun reacted quickly, dropping his weapon and running, he couldn’t outrun the crazed boar.
With one charge, the boar sent Jianjun flying.
Luckily, the tusks didn’t pierce him, or he would have died on the spot. But the boar wasn’t done yet—it charged again with brutal force.
This time, if it landed the hit, Jianjun would have no chance of survival. In such a critical moment, Xu Feng’s adrenaline surged. He grabbed his machete and dashed forward, aiming carefully and swinging it hard at the boar’s head. If he hit, the boar would die; if he missed, he would. Fortunately, Lady Luck smiled on Xu Feng.
The machete lodged deeply into the boar’s head, and the already weakened beast collapsed instantly, brain-dead. The massive body crashed down beside Jianjun, and the stench of urine filled the air.
No one laughed. In the face of life and death, even their reactions weren’t as fast as Jianjun’s.
“Xu Feng, I owe you my life!” Jianjun gasped on the ground, breathing heavily. That collision had definitely shaken his internal organs.
Xu Feng waved his hand, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Just a bit of chest pain from the collision.” Jianjun was a real tough guy. His clothes were torn, his body covered in scratches, but all he said was that his chest hurt a little. Jianjun was thankful he had listened to Shou Shan’s advice. If not, this day next year would have been his death anniversary.
Shou Shan hurried over to check. Seeing it was only superficial wounds, he finally relaxed. For rural lads, these injuries were nothing.
Next came the butchering. Shou Shan tried pulling the machete stuck in the boar’s skull, veins bulging all over his body, but he couldn’t move it an inch. He couldn’t imagine how much strength Xu Feng had used to drive it in like that.
Calling Xu Feng to join them in the hunt had definitely been the right choice.
Plus, with three piglets, each weighing around fifty or sixty kilograms, the total was at least four hundred kilograms. The six of them couldn’t possibly carry that down the mountain, especially with one of them injured.
“Run back to the village quickly and get more people. We have to get the boar down before it gets dark.” Shou Shan picked two of the fastest runners to call for help. Although the smell of the boar’s blood was strong, this area was likely the boar’s own territory, so no other big beasts would appear.
Xu Feng stayed behind, still thinking about that green dot on the map. By the time the others returned, it would be at least two hours—perfect for him to go check what that green dot was.
“Brother Shou Shan, I’m going to look around nearby for any ginseng. Last time I sold the boar, people asked me if I had ginseng.” Xu Feng came up with a perfect excuse. In the past, there really had been ginseng in these woods, but in recent years, the mountain gatherers had picked everything clean. It was rare to find any with age left.
“If it were that easy to find, our village wouldn’t be this poor. Don’t go too far. The forest is much more dangerous than you think.” Shou Shan trusted Xu Feng’s toughness. As long as he didn’t wander too far, nothing should happen.
Xu Feng replied and headed straight toward the green dot. The marker hadn’t moved since it appeared on the map, meaning it definitely wasn’t an animal. Once out of everyone’s sight, Xu Feng sped up.
As he got closer, he found a small cliff ahead. The map clearly showed the green dot right beneath his feet. The cliff wasn’t high, so Xu Feng grabbed some branches and slid down carefully. Scanning around, he soon noticed a faint green glow in the shadows.
Adjusting his angle, Xu Feng peeked behind the rocks and his eyes widened. “One, two, three… six!” By the time he counted to six, his hands were trembling. It was a six-leaf ginseng—a rare, century-old ginseng!
