Chapter 27: Climbing Over Wang Xiuli’s Wall for Treasure:

Guests were guests, no matter which village they came from.

Xu Feng served everyone equally. After all, the two villages were so close, and whenever there were difficulties, they always helped each other.

Just as it was the Qin sisters’ turn, Jianjun came over and told Xu Feng to take a break and let him handle it. Xu Feng knew exactly what this kid was thinking, but he didn’t refuse.

Winning over the woman you liked wasn’t just about being good to her—it was about attracting her with your own charm. That’s how it had always been.

Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been so many famous bootlickers throughout history.

Xu Feng happily took the chance to relax.

He served himself a bowl of pork stew and went back inside to eat. Once things quieted down, Xu Feng borrowed a small cart to wheel home the hundred or so kilograms of pork he had earned.

Then he roughly portioned it, planning to take it to the city tomorrow to sell to Scarface. Of course, he didn’t forget the proper process—at noon, he cut a piece of tenderloin to stir-fry for the two sisters and Wang Xiuli.

The clothes weren’t finished yet, and Wang Xiuli had already grown used to Lin Xiyue’s hospitality.

[Consumed pork for Lin Xiyue, Lin Xixue, and Wang Xiuli. Bonus reward: 10 kilograms.]

“?”

Hearing the System’s notification, Xu Feng was stunned.

A 100 kilograms of pork and only a 10-kilogram bonus?

That’s only 0.1 times?

After thinking for a moment, Xu Feng figured it out.

Only what was consumed triggered the bonus, and since the rest of the pork was for sale, it wouldn’t double.

Unable to trick the System, Xu Feng obediently prepared the hundred kilograms along with the previously rewarded 420 kilograms and prepared to sell them all. It wasn’t a small sum.

But the city-bound vehicle had already left, and he would have to get up early the next day to catch it.

There was no rush—the fresh meat would be fine left in a cool place overnight.

…

They were busy until almost nightfall, finally completing the four sets of clothes.

“Sister Xiuli, you really have skill!” Lin Xiyue asked Xu Feng to go inside and change. The clothes fit perfectly.

“This is nothing. If you have this kind of work in the future, just come to me. It’s getting late. I’ll head home now.”

At this hour, if she stayed for dinner, she’d get home very late.

Lin Xiyue didn’t insist on keeping her. Wang Xiuli packed her tools back into the basket, took a new set of clothes, and happily went back to her house.

After dinner, the two sisters went back to their rooms to rest. Xu Feng, having napped all afternoon, was lying on the bed, coaxing his wife to sleep but couldn’t fall asleep himself. There were no entertainment activities at night, and as soon as he closed his eyes, all he could think about was Wang Xiuli’s treasure. Just like Shou Shan guessed, tonight there was almost no moonlight, and outside was pitch black.

Xu Feng couldn’t stop thinking about what exactly the big treasure in Wang Xiuli’s house was. His curiosity was itching unbearably. “Why not… just take a look tonight?”

The thought took root, grew into a towering tree, and completely consumed Xu Feng’s reason. When he thought about it, he acted.

Anyway, Xu Feng didn’t have a good reputation in the village, and sneaking over the widow’s wall wouldn’t make it any worse.

Besides, if he was careful, maybe no one would find out.

Carefully prying his wife, who clung to him like an octopus, off, Xu Feng climbed out through the ventilation window.

Although it wasn’t so dark that he couldn’t see his hand in front of him, he could barely see anything.

In the countryside back then, there were hardly any electric lights. Even kerosene lamps were scarce and rarely used. People would go to bed as soon as it got dark.

Just as he was about to reach Wang Xiuli’s courtyard wall, he vaguely sensed someone crouching on top of it.

Since binding with the System, Xu Feng had clearly felt his senses improving significantly. He squinted carefully—wasn’t that the kid who had stolen underwear last time? What a pervert. Wang Xiuli was sleeping inside, what could he possibly see from the wall? Was he waiting for her to get up at night and sneak a peek to satisfy his voyeurism?

Xu Feng bent down, picked up a stone from the ground, and threw it hard at the figure on the wall.

A dull thud followed by a startled yelp, and the second son of Aunt Li’s family fell hard on his butt.

He got up, not caring about the dirt on his clothes, and ran away in a panic. This kid ran into him every time he came over. Who knew how many times he had been peeping already?

Now it was Xu Feng’s turn to climb over the widow’s wall, but their purposes were completely different. After climbing inside, he looked around but didn’t see any of the glowing light he was expecting.

From the looks of it, the treasure must be inside the house.

Entering through the front door was impossible—the creaking sound of the wooden door would wake anyone sleeping inside.

Fortunately, Xu Feng was already familiar with the layout from his last visit. Climbing in through the window wouldn’t make much noise.

It was hot, and no one in the village would close their windows at night, giving thieves the perfect opportunity.

Xu Feng climbed in quietly, immediately noticing a faint golden glow on the beam. “This woman really knows how to hide stuff!”

Though it was right overhead, no one would normally look up there. No wonder the old saying ‘gentleman on the beam’ existed—it all made sense now.

Xu Feng carefully stepped on the cabinet, tiptoeing just enough to reach it.

The cool, metallic feel confirmed it—small yellow fish gold bars! Thinking of the term made Xu Feng’s heart race. One small yellow fish could fetch 500 yuan.

How could an ordinary household have such things?

From the feel of it, there weren’t just small ones, but large ones too! He was rich, truly rich! He didn’t have time to count how many there were. He grabbed as much as he could and stuffed it all into the System’s space.

“Who’s there?” Wang Xiuli suddenly whispered coldly, scaring Xu Feng so much he nearly fell off the cabinet. There was still a faint golden glow on the beam, but Xu Feng no longer had the chance to grab a second handful.

It wasn’t Xu Feng who made the noise, but the earlier commotion from Aunt Li’s second son falling off the wall had already woken Wang Xiuli.

Though Xu Feng’s window entry had been quiet, to the already-awake Wang Xiuli, it sounded like thunder. Unfortunately, it was so dark that Wang Xiuli couldn’t see who had come in or what they were doing.

“You leave now, and I’ll pretend nothing happened. If I shout, the entire village will hear!” Wang Xiuli’s voice was as cold as ice, giving the intruder no room for fantasy.

Xu Feng knew Wang Xiuli didn’t know who he was or what he had done.

Since he had already been discovered, he might as well confess.

“Sister, it’s me!” Hearing Xu Feng’s voice, Wang Xiuli wasn’t even surprised. She knew the men in the village were all eyeing her, but most of them were cowards, only daring to peek from the shadows, never making a move. Only one man was the exception—Xu Feng had the guts!
