Chapter 64: An Accident

After leaving the pigeon market, Xu Feng finally tore off the cloth covering his face. He had already examined the jade pendant earlier, but since he didn’t understand it, he simply tossed it into the System space.

He was just about to hop on his bicycle and head home when he suddenly noticed that the jade pendant inside the System space was releasing a stream of white gas.

What the hell was going on? Was there a trapped soul inside the jade?

The white gas continuously seeped from the jade and drifted toward Xu Feng’s mind.

After observing for a while and confirming that there were no adverse reactions in his body, Xu Feng’s heartbeat gradually returned to normal. Damn, that was scary. Luckily, the System shouldn’t harm him.

Why did nothing happen when he put gold into the space, but this not-so-valuable jade caused such a fuss?

Xu Feng couldn’t figure it out and didn’t bother to think too much. All he knew was if he didn’t hurry home to sleep, it would soon be dawn.

He rushed back to the Courtyard as fast as possible, fortunately not bumping into Third Uncle. He quietly pushed his bicycle into the yard, locked it up, and headed straight for his bedroom.

Whether it was because he was too tired or something else, the door was still half-open when he sat on the bed.

There was still no movement from next door, but all of Xu Feng’s attention was on the jade pendant in the System space.

Even after all this time, the white gas continued to pour out.

Xu Feng was just about to study it when it seemed the gas had reached some critical point, and he suddenly blacked out, collapsing onto the bed. Fortunately, he fell onto the bed, but given his size, the sound he made was not small.

At this time of night, the Courtyard was at its quietest, and this moderate noise happened to wake Qin Huairu, who had been dozing off.

She rubbed her sleepy eyes and, realizing she had fallen asleep, quickly got up. There was no clock in the house, and she didn’t know the time, but she figured there was still time to wake Jia Dongxu for the bridal night.

Jia Dongxu was sound asleep, snoring lightly.

Just as Qin Huairu was about to wake him, she suddenly felt the urge to urinate. After a day spent busy with wedding matters, she hadn’t even had time to use the restroom.

She carefully got out of bed, put on her shoes, quietly opened the door, and went out to find the toilet.

The moon had been hidden by clouds, so she had to rely on memory to find her way.

Luckily, nothing happened. If she had fallen into the toilet, it would have been utterly humiliating.

After finishing, the darkness outside still made her a bit scared, especially since it was an unfamiliar place.

Qin Huairu hurried back the way she came, and since she had deliberately left the door half-open, she didn’t suspect anything when she saw the same half-open door and pushed it open.

She found the bedroom and groped her way to the bed.

She was just about to wake up her man to light the candle when the man on the bed suddenly reached out and pulled her into the bed.

Then Qin Huairu felt his lips pressing onto hers. Having never kissed a man before, Qin Huairu’s mind went blank.

If there had been a light in the room, Qin Huairu would have immediately seen that this wasn’t her husband. She also would have noticed that Xu Feng wasn’t in his normal state—he was completely unconscious.

Unfortunately, there was no light, and she wasn’t familiar enough with her husband’s body.

By five in the morning, Qin Huairu, unable to sleep properly, was awakened by pain after only two hours of restless sleep.

The sky outside was already beginning to lighten, and the faint light was creeping into the room.

Qin Huairu, still nestled in the man’s arms, suddenly realized the man she was holding felt larger than usual.

A sense of dread filled her heart. When she lifted her head to see the man’s face clearly, her blushing face turned deathly pale.

In an instant, her heart ached so much she couldn’t breathe.

Where was she? Why wasn’t the man in her arms Jia Dongxu?

She glanced down and nearly fainted at the sight of the plum blossom pattern on the bedsheet.

She hurriedly dressed and struggled to get up, nearly falling several times.

Looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar man lying on the bed, Qin Huairu wanted to kill him, then kill herself.

But thinking again, she realized she was the one who had gone into the wrong room last night.

Sigh, what a cursed fate.

In that moment, countless thoughts of suicide crossed her mind.

But thinking of how, if she died, it would be an escape only for herself—what about her parents back in the village? They would not only suffer the pain of losing their daughter but also face humiliation and gossip.

She blamed no one but herself.

The sky outside was about to brighten completely. If she didn’t make a decision soon, she wouldn’t be able to leave unnoticed.

In the end, Qin Huairu gave up on the idea of dying. She would hide this matter if she could, and if not, she’d confess to the man.

With her mind made up, she quietly returned to Jia Dongxu’s house.

Seeing her husband still snoring away, Qin Huairu felt a piercing pain in her heart.

An hour passed, feeling like an eternity for Qin Huairu. Every second was torture.

Soon, the Courtyard began to stir, and Jia Dongxu was also awakened by the noise.

Hungover from last night, Jia Dongxu’s head felt like it was about to split.

“My head hurts so much. Wife, let me sleep a bit longer.”

Qin Huairu dared not speak or disturb him.

Half an hour later, there was a sudden knock on the door outside.

“Dongxu, hurry up and get up for work!” Yi Zhonghai knew it was his apprentice’s wedding night last night, so getting up late was understandable, but he couldn’t be late for work, so he specially came over to remind him.

Hearing his master calling him, Jia Dongxu quickly got up.

“Wife, I’m off to work. I’m still a trainee, so it wouldn’t look good if I were late. I’ll make you something good when I get home tonight.”

With a wife now, his job was even more important. Despite his headache, Jia Dongxu forced himself to get up, not noticing anything wrong with his wife’s expression. He dressed and left with Yi Zhonghai for the steel factory.

Qin Huairu didn’t know if she should feel lucky or unlucky. Maybe she should just keep this to herself. If her husband asked, she’d say he was too drunk last night but they still consummated the marriage.

That was the only solution she could think of.

Then Qin Huairu started fixing the flaws. Yes, the white cloth was still missing a plum blossom!

Her heart hardened, and she bit her finger, dripping blood onto the cloth.
