Chapter 16: The Little Fox From Back Then… Turned Human

Lu Hengge absolutely wasn’t going to say the word “Master.” However… the word “corpse” might suit this woman just fine.

He got up and shut the wooden hut’s door. It was a bit like covering one’s ears while stealing a bell—pointless, since cultivators relied more on divine sense than eyes—but it still felt necessary.

Mo Hu frowned in confusion. She couldn’t figure out why Lu Hengge was doing that, but she still believed she had him completely under control.

“Fellow cultivator… no, I should call you demon friend,” Lu Hengge said, his gentle smile tinged with killing intent.

Mo Hu froze for a moment, her expression flickering. “How did you know I’m from the demon race?” From the moment she entered the hut, she hadn’t released even a trace of demonic Qi. Her aura was perfectly concealed—even Great Ascension Realm cultivators wouldn’t detect her presence unless she caused a stir.

Lu Hengge didn’t respond. He knew demonic Qi far too well. After all, he had spent five hundred years battling Ye Feng, that demonic cultivator. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he understood demonic Qi as well as any member of the demon race. Even if Mo Hu concealed her Qi, her demonic nature was all too obvious.

Still, Lu Hengge couldn’t help but be puzzled. A demon race expert sneaking into the heart of the Three Thousand Dao Sect… just to get him to call her “Master”? No matter how he looked at it, she seemed like an idiot.

Cui Liu’s brain didn’t develop. This woman’s brain didn’t finish developing either. It was like all kinds of freaks were drawn to Lu Hengge.

“Do you want to live or die?” Lu Hengge asked softly.

Mo Hu couldn’t immediately comprehend what he meant. Was this dog of a man unaware of the situation? She was a Fusion Realm expert. Killing Lu Hengge, who had lost his cultivation, would take nothing more than a glance.

Wait. Mo Hu narrowed her eyes. The Lu Hengge she remembered wasn’t reckless. Was he bluffing? Or did he have a backup plan?

A moment later, she chuckled coldly. “You’re betting I won’t dare make a move? If I act, my aura will leak. Even if I manage to kill you, I won’t escape the Three Thousand Dao Sect alive.”

Lu Hengge stepped forward and reached out, gently stroking her silky hair. His voice was soft, “If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn’t need the sect’s help. I alone would be enough. However, I’m willing to give you a chance to live.”

Mo Hu trembled slightly, then raised her chin to look at him. A mortal, threatening a Fusion Realm cultivator? That was absurd. Such a thing had never happened throughout history.

Lu Hengge’s hand slowly trailed down, landing on her pale neck. His fingers suddenly tightened, and his expression turned cold. “Before you try to assassinate someone, you’d best do your research. Besides being a cultivator, I’m also an 8th-grade alchemist.”

Mo Hu’s face changed dramatically. An 8th-grade alchemist! And where there’s medicine, there’s poison. Alchemists were also poison masters. An 8th-grade poison master could create toxins even Fusion Realm experts couldn’t resist.

The next moment, Mo Hu tried to release her aura. Nothing happened. The vast ocean of demonic Qi inside her was completely gone. She couldn’t even circulate her foundational cultivation technique. It was like all her power had vanished.

Most demon cultivators also trained in body refinement because their physiques were naturally stronger than those of the human race. That’s why physical cultivators were rare among humans but common in the demon race.

Unfortunately, Mo Hu never practiced body refinement. With her vast stores of demonic Qi, she had never needed to. As a fox-type demon beast, her natural body was already stronger than most demon or human cultivators. She never imagined she’d regret that choice.

Lu Hengge’s simple grip was actually fracturing the bones in her neck. Her breathing became labored. The pressure on her neck increased, compressing her bones into each other. She felt suffocated.

He wasn’t joking.

Crack.

The sound of bones breaking rang out. Since taking human form, this was the first time her body had ever suffered such pain.

“I… Lu… Hengge… let go…” Mo Hu gasped, weakly trying to pry his fingers from her neck. Her demonic Qi was gone, and even her naturally powerful beast body was useless against his grip.

“So you want to live.” Lu Hengge’s smile returned as he loosened his hand.

Mo Hu took in large gulps of air, gasping. When she finally recovered a bit, she looked at Lu Hengge again, fear and dread in her eyes. Her body involuntarily shrank back. The Lu Hengge she had known before was always gentle. The man before her now was like a completely different person.

Lu Hengge didn’t care about her reaction. “If you want to live, do two things.”

Mo Hu nodded in fear. With no demonic Qi, she wasn’t much stronger than an ordinary mortal.

“First, sign a servant contract with me.” Lu Hengge currently had no cultivation, and Elder Yao Fan’s lifespan was nearing its end. Before he could rise again, he needed a protector. This woman was perfect—Fusion Realm strength, a long lifespan, and most importantly, she was a demon.

Mo Hu looked up timidly, “Okay.”

Lu Hengge stroked his chin and gave her a suspicious glance. That was too easy. These servant contracts handed over one’s life and death—most people resisted fiercely.

“Open your mouth.”

Just to be sure, Lu Hengge wanted to double-check. Fusion Realm cultivators had many tricks. He couldn’t afford to be careless.

Mo Hu obediently opened her mouth and even stuck out her little tongue like a puppy.

Lu Hengge’s expression became even weirder. This demoness’s tastes… were clearly not normal. No wonder—every demon was a weirdo.

He flicked a pill into her mouth. It landed perfectly. She swallowed it immediately.

“What did you make me eat?” she asked warily.

“An aphrodisiac,” Lu Hengge replied casually.

Mo Hu’s face turned bright red. She thought he was joking… until her body began to heat up.

A few moments later, the heat began to subside.

Huh, this aphrodisiac was kind of short-lived.

“Release your soul. If you try anything funny… you die.”

Lu Hengge also swallowed a pill—this one was a Spirit Gathering Pill. It wasn’t anything rare, but it allowed him to temporarily store spiritual Qi and use the [Gazing Immortal Scripture].

Mo Hu muttered under her breath, “Impotent man.”

“What did you say?” Lu Hengge frowned.

She quickly waved her hand, denying it. Then she released her soul—it took the form of a pure white little fox, crystal clear and filled with vitality.

The moment he saw it, Lu Hengge felt an odd sense of familiarity. He had seen this fox before.

Without overthinking it, he took a deep breath and activated the [Gazing Immortal Scripture]. A brush formed from spiritual Qi appeared in his hand. He raised it and began to write on the fox’s forehead.

The feeling of familiarity only grew stronger.

Then, something strange happened—before he even consciously finished writing, his name had already appeared clearly on the little fox’s forehead, as if his hand was simply following a trace that had always been there.

This had never happened to Lu Hengge before.

“You and I already have a contract,” Mo Hu said softly, watching his blank stare.

Lu Hengge scratched his head, confused. When had he signed a servant contract with her? He didn’t remember at all. Did his memory get affected when he reincarnated?

Suddenly, a memory flashed through his mind.

He had never signed a servant contract with a person, but he had once signed one with a little fox. It was so long ago that he had completely forgotten.

In that instant, a name came back to him.

“You… you’re Ji Hu?”

Mo Hu’s expression fell, and she gave a reluctant grunt in response.

Lu Hengge cupped her face and stared at her closely, “Give me that look you always made when you were disgusted with me.”

Mo Hu rolled her eyes.

Then, she cast a condescending glance his way.

That look—it was perfect.

Lu Hengge gave a sheepish smile, “All just a misunderstanding. Everything I said and did earlier… was just a joke.”

Mo Hu gave him another disgusted look. This time, it wasn’t fake. She was genuinely repulsed by Lu Hengge.
