Chapter 39: Sending Her Off

Killing should be efficient. If one wasted too much time with every kill, then for Lu Hengge to slaughter everyone in the Three Thousand Dao Sect would take decades.

“The one who killed you was Lu Sheng. I’m just a cripple,” Lu Hengge murmured with a smile.

He didn’t bother to deal with the corpse, instead leaving it exposed in the grass by the road.

He was about to be sent to Sword Prison anyway. Before that, he might as well disgust Lu Sheng one last time.

Of course, no matter how disgusting it was, it wouldn’t have any actual impact on her. After all, the elders of the Hall of Justice weren’t idiots.

Lu Hengge walked away calmly, continuing toward the Hall of Justice.

Moments later, he arrived.

The place was still familiar, the scene unchanged—but there were far more elders now, all waiting for his arrival.

Inside the main hall, Lu Hengge stood quietly, expressionless.

“Lu Hengge, hand over your comprehension of the Three Thousand Paths and you’ll be spared from the torment of Sword Prison.”

“Considering all you’ve done for the sect over the years, we’re willing to let you live.”

“You’ve lost your cultivation. The Three Thousand Paths are useless to you now. Why not offer them for the sect disciples to study? That is the right mindset you should have.”

The elders spoke one after another.

Lu Hengge remained silent.

The sect master was absent.

The ones barking in the hall were all elders and hall masters from peaks other than Qingyun Peak and the Pill Hall.

Though their faces were ugly to look at, Lu Hengge couldn’t deny that their cultivation was strong. The weakest among them had already reached mid-stage Divine Ascension Realm—not targets he could handle at the moment.

After all the elders finished talking, Lin Xing stepped forward to play the good guy. “Holy Son, there’s no need to be so stubborn. You’ve lost your cultivation—entering Sword Prison would be walking into death. As mortals say, a live dog is better than a dead lion. You understand that much, don’t you?”

“I want to see the sect master,” Lu Hengge replied softly.

Instantly, the elders’ expressions darkened.

The decision to strip Lu Hengge of his Holy Son title had been made solely by the elders, without the sect master’s approval. After all, the sect master was undergoing a life-or-death seclusion and could not be disturbed.

From Lu Hengge’s attitude, it was clear he wanted the sect master to defend him.

Lin Xing’s tone turned cold, “The sect master is in seclusion. You’re not qualified to see him.”

Lu Hengge nodded. “Then I’ll enter Sword Prison.”

As soon as those words fell, the elders’ expressions grew even darker.

Lu Hengge was truly stubborn—he’d rather die than hand over his comprehension of the Three Thousand Paths.

“Lu Hengge, you were once the Holy Son. For the sake of the sect, you should share your insights into the Three Thousand Paths,” one elder tried again. The comprehension wasn’t only beneficial to the younger generation—even these Divine Ascension Realm elders could benefit immensely.

Lu Hengge remained unmoved. “Let the sect master say that, and I’ll consider it. As for you all—there’s no need for me to show you any courtesy.”

A bunch of old, undead fossils. What face did they have to speak of?

Of course, if the sect master really did appear, Lu Hengge might show a little compromise—not out of respect, but because the sect master’s peak Divine Ascension Realm cultivation demanded caution.

“Insolent!”

“A mere cripple dares to speak so wildly before us?”

Many elders stood up at once.

A terrifying pressure crashed toward him.

Lu Hengge sneered inwardly. These decrepit cowards really had no shame—ganging up on one man.

But today, there were no outer disciples present in the Hall of Justice. Only Lu Hengge and these elders.

Judging by their stance, they didn’t plan to let him leave unless he surrendered the Three Thousand Paths comprehension.

Lu Hengge had already anticipated this. He wasn’t nervous in the slightest. With a flick of his fingers, he revealed a seemingly ordinary landscape scroll. The overwhelming pressure instantly vanished, forcing all the elders to step back.

“The Xuantian Treasure Scroll!”

“Isn’t that Yao Fan’s treasure?”

“How did it end up in Lu Hengge’s hands?”

The elders exchanged uncertain glances, not daring to move again.

Yao Fan had two great treasures—the Xuantian Treasure Scroll and the Grand Fortune Scripture. The former was his life-bound artifact, the latter his core cultivation technique.

Everyone in the Three Thousand Dao Sect knew Yao Fan valued Lu Hengge, but no one had imagined he would entrust even his life-bound artifact to him.

Of course, the power of any artifact depended on who used it.

With Lu Hengge wielding the treasure, the threat was limited.

But the real issue was Yao Fan himself.

No one in the room dared to provoke him. Not even Lin Xing had the guts.

The atmosphere froze.

The moment Lu Hengge took out the treasure scroll, it was no longer just him standing there—but the entire Pill Hall behind him.

“I already said,” Lu Hengge sneered, “apart from the sect master, I owe no one else here even a sliver of respect.”

The elders gritted their teeth but had no rebuttal.

In the end, they were nothing but spineless hypocrites, only brave when stepping on the weak.

Lin Xing furrowed his brow. He had underestimated Lu Hengge.

Scanning the other elders’ faces, Lin Xing quickly realized they wouldn’t be able to do anything to Lu Hengge today.

They were too cowardly—cowardice embedded in their bones.

The stronger their cultivation, the more they feared death.

Rather than defending their pride or honor, their first instinct was always survival.

How pitiful.

Lin Xing looked down on them. The human race couldn’t compare to even a single strand of hair from the demon race when it came to courage.

But in truth, he wasn’t much better.

He feared death too.

He was one of the elders present. If Yao Fan did step in for Lu Hengge, who could stop him?

The answer was: no one.

“Then enter Sword Prison,” Lin Xing finally said. “You’ll serve sixty years. Only then may you leave.”

“If, during that time, you change your mind and choose to hand over the comprehension of the Three Thousand Paths, you may use the token I’ll give you to leave early.”

He waved his hand dismissively.

He wasn’t in a rush.

Once Lu Hengge entered Sword Prison, there would be countless ways to make him surrender.

And once he gave up the Three Thousand Paths, that would mark his death sentence.

Lu Hengge was cunning and resourceful. He would make a brilliant court minister in any empire—but this was the world of cultivation. Strength was the only truth.

Still, Yao Fan was indeed troublesome.

To ensure everything went smoothly, Yao Fan would have to be eliminated.

That wasn’t Lin Xing’s job, nor did he have the qualifications. But the one who had walked out of the deepest cell in the Hall of Justice… he could kill Yao Fan with ease.

Lin Xing had no more interest in dealing with Lu Hengge.

But unexpectedly, Lu Hengge didn’t seem in any hurry to leave.

Lin Xing frowned. “You should be on your way to Sword Prison.”

Lu Hengge glanced at the time and smiled, “She’s here.”

She? Who?

Lin Xing didn’t understand.

The next moment, Lu Sheng burst into the Hall of Justice, her face full of panic. Her eyes locked onto Lu Hengge.

“Lu Hengge! Did you poison Liu’er? Give me the antidote! She’s dying!”
