Chapter 1: The System Awakens.

[Ding! Congratulations, Host. The Super System has been activated.]

[Since the Host has transmigrated into the body of a villain in an apocalyptic novel world, the “Apocalyptic Arch-Villain System” has been successfully bound.]

[The current timeline is at the beginning of the plot. The apocalyptic protagonist, the Neighborhood War God Lin Fan, has been reborn.]

[Please eliminate the Neighborhood War God Lin Fan as soon as possible. The faster the kill, the greater the settlement rewards.]

[Congratulations, Host. You have received an Initial Apocalyptic Villain Gift Pack!]

[Villain’s Eye (Upgradeable): Allows you to view the information and data of all characters, including their identity, faction, favorability, primary abilities, and more.]

[Villain’s Space (Upgradeable): A static storage space measuring 20 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and 20 meters in height. Spatial storage is a must-have ability for apocalyptic protagonists. If the Host wants to become a qualified arch-villain, how can you be inferior to the protagonist?]

[Suit-Wearing Enforcer Template: Put on a suit, and you become the perfect fusion of elegance and violent aesthetics. Comes with enhanced physical attributes and Mastery of Combat at MAX level.]

???

“I’ve transmigrated?”

Gu Ziming looked dazed.

Just moments ago, he had been watching the Olympic Games. When the national team secured another gold medal, he had jumped up in excitement. And then… there was nothing after that.

He had simply transmigrated.

He had entered a composite apocalyptic novel world. He was a rich second-generation heir, but according to the original plot, he was nothing more than a disposable cannon fodder character destined to be humiliated by the protagonist.

Coming back to his senses, Gu Ziming realized he was sitting in the back seat of a Rolls-Royce. A glass of red wine rested beside him. The corner of his mouth twitched.

Transmigration was now an established fact. Since he could not change it, he might as well enjoy it.

After all, starting life over in another world was something countless people dreamed of but could never attain.

Gu Ziming closed his eyes and leaned his head slightly against the soft leather headrest, organizing the memories flooding his mind.

He knew how this usually went. Before the apocalyptic protagonist was reborn, there would always be a tragic backstory: the protagonist being ruthlessly dumped by his girlfriend, who then chose to follow a wealthy heir instead.

And he, Gu Ziming, was that wealthy heir.

If the plot proceeded as written, the Child of Destiny would return reborn. Armed with foreknowledge of the coming apocalypse, he would stockpile supplies in advance. When the apocalypse arrived, he would watch with amusement as Gu Ziming and his ex-girlfriend struggled desperately to survive.

Once the protagonist grew tired of spectating, he would crush Gu Ziming like an ant. Then he would continue tormenting the ex-girlfriend, forcing her to drown in regret for having abandoned him.

Thus, a minor cannon fodder character would make his perfect exit.

…

Knock knock knock.

A tapping sound on the car window interrupted Gu Ziming’s recollection of the plot.

He lowered the window. A face of pure innocence came into view, framed by large, grape-like purple eyes that carefully studied him.

This was the opening scene of the novel. Gu Ziming had come to the university to pick up the protagonist’s girlfriend, Qin Feifei. Then the reborn protagonist would appear. The two of them would mock Lin Fan, and Lin Fan would shout, “You adulterous couple, you will regret this!” before storming off in fury.

“And you are?” Gu Ziming asked, pretending not to recognize her.

The girl outside replied softly, “My name is Qin Feifei. I am a student of Professor Liu. May I ask if you are CEO Gu? My mentor was suddenly transferred by higher authorities. Before leaving, he asked me to coordinate with you regarding the patent.”

A patent?

Wasn’t this supposed to be the part where something improper happened?

At that moment, the original memories in Gu Ziming’s mind surged violently, making his head feel as if it were about to explode.

It turned out that the Gu family’s biochemical company wanted to acquire Professor Liu’s latest special graphene patent. To show sincerity, Gu Ziming had planned to personally invite the professor to dinner.

The appointment had been set for 5 p.m. It was only 4:30 p.m., so he had been resting in the car.

It seemed that in the original novel, Qin Feifei approaching Gu Ziming had been nothing more than an accident.

Gu Ziming rubbed his temples and muttered, “I was almost misled by that lousy author. I can’t just rely on the plot. This is a real world.”

“Sir, are you alright?” Qin Feifei asked with concern.

“I’m fine. I’m Gu Ziming. Get in the car. Let’s have dinner and discuss the matter while we eat,” Gu Ziming said calmly. There was no need to say more.

Qin Feifei looked slightly nervous, but she nodded obediently. “Alright, CEO Gu.”

She opened the car door and was about to get in. She even stuck out her tongue slightly, silently complaining that CEO Gu had no gentlemanly manners.

Then a shout shattered the moment.

“Qin—Fei—Fei!”

A smile appeared on Gu Ziming’s face.

The show was finally about to begin.

At that moment, Lin Fan’s fury was nearly bursting out of his head. His fists were clenched so tightly that his nails dug into his palms, but even the pain was drowned by rage.

Yes, Lin Fan had been reborn.

In his previous life, he had barely survived six months in the apocalypse, only to be stabbed in the back by his teammates over a piece of spoiled jerky. That jerky had been given to him by Qin Feifei.

He remembered clearly the moment before his death. Qin Feifei had been in Gu Ziming’s arms, pretending to cry without shedding a single tear.

Gu Ziming had been even more detestable. He had said, “Go in peace. I’ll take care of your girlfriend,” before leaving with Qin Feifei.

Now, Lin Fan, the Child of Destiny, had returned. He swore to make this adulterous couple experience the cruelty of the apocalypse firsthand. He would make them understand what it meant to wish for death but be unable to die.

…

Gu Ziming stepped out of the car. At a glance, he spotted the protagonist standing out in the crowd like a crane among chickens.

Lin Fan had delicate features and a thin build. His complexion was pale, and though his eyes were bright, heavy dark circles dimmed their light.

Those traits alone were not enough to confirm his identity. But the moment Gu Ziming saw his face, he felt an uncontrollable urge to mock him. That alone was the protagonist’s unmistakable anti-counterfeit mark.

Gu Ziming activated the Villain’s Eye.

As expected, the protagonist.

…

[Name: Lin Fan
Faction: Righteous Protagonist
Favorability: -99
Primary Abilities: Infinite Storage Space, Knowledge of the world’s progression after rebirth]

…

Good grief. -99 favorability right from the start. Was this a grudge over killing his father or stealing his wife?

Was he determined to be irreconcilable enemies?

Qin Feifei snapped out of her daze and called out, “Lin Fan, why are you here?”

Lin Fan replied coldly, “If I hadn’t come, would you have gotten into his car? Did I ruin your good time?”

Worthy of being the apocalyptic protagonist. By now, he had already suppressed his anger. The way he looked at them was as if he were staring at two corpses.

Seeing this shift, Gu Ziming understood. There was no resolving this conflict.

Once a protagonist decided something, it became the truth.

Just as villains were instinctively driven to mock protagonists, protagonists were naturally repulsed by villains.

Was reconciliation possible?

Impossible.

Even if he explained the truth and knelt to beg for mercy, it would be useless.

In the apocalypse, a wavering heart and saintly compassion were fatal flaws for a protagonist.

Of course, even if Lin Fan knelt and begged Gu Ziming for mercy, it would make no difference. Their opposing factions were already set. Besides, eliminating this so-called Child of Destiny was necessary to claim system rewards.

This was destined to be a duel where only one would survive.

And besides, if he was already the villain, wasn’t killing the protagonist perfectly reasonable?

Yes. Exactly.

In short…

Villain versus protagonist.

The advantage is mine.
