Chapter 10: No One Believes She Can Do Well in the Exam

Lu Ning paused, her voice polite and distant, “Second brother, fourth brother, sixth brother.” If she didn’t greet them, they would accuse her of being rude and throwing a tantrum again. She didn’t have the energy to argue about such things anymore. It was just a waste of time.

Lu Liu raised an eyebrow and looked over. “How was today’s exam? You refused to join the team just because you wanted to focus on studying. I’d like to see how well you actually did!”

Lu Ning wasn’t bothered by her sixth brother’s sarcasm. After all, no matter what she did, her brothers never thought highly of her.

She pressed her lips together, “I’ll work hard.”

She would work hard to improve her grades, to get into Cloud University, and get far away from them.

Lu Bei sneered, “Lu Ning was never good at studying since she was little. Even in her first and second years of high school, her grades were never great. Now that graduation is around the corner, she’s suddenly trying to cram? It only looks like she’s working hard. In the end, her ranking will still be behind Xiang Xiang.”

Qin Xiang smiled and said, “Fourth brother, don’t say that. Sister Ning Ning has been working very hard lately. Even the teachers praised her. Grades aren’t everything, you know.”

Lu Ning clenched her schoolbag tightly, fury surging in her chest. In her past life, there was a reason her grades were poor. Every time she scored better than Qin Xiang, Qin Xiang would make trouble for her, causing the brothers to dislike her. So, to avoid making her brothers hate her, Lu Ning would deliberately do poorly on her exams.

That didn’t mean she was really bad at studying.

In her past life, during the college entrance exam, she had wanted to surpass Qin Xiang to prove that she was better.

But what happened?

Her eldest brother forced her to apply to the same inferior university as Qin Xiang, even though her scores were good enough for a better school.

Thinking of this, Lu Ning tried hard to control her emotions.

“I’m going back to my room.”

Her gaze was icy cold, but this time, she wouldn’t be foolish again.

…

The next day was the weekend.

Lu Ning woke up naturally. When she went downstairs for breakfast, the hall was empty. They had probably gone to the training camp. Lu Ning didn’t care. After finishing her meal, she returned to her room.

She checked her phone and saw news about the gaming competition. As expected, the official announcement for the repechage had been posted. It was just like her past life. Back then, her sixth brother was fired up during the repechage, determined to win. Only by winning could they advance to the finals and get revenge on the Ji family’s young master.

But in her past life, Lu Tian’s team had only won the championship because they got lucky. The Ji family’s young master had withdrawn at the last critical moment, giving them the chance to win. As for why he withdrew, she never knew, even until the day she died.

Some said it was due to a sudden illness, others said his family forced him back to inherit the family business, but the person himself never clarified.

Looking at the game introduction, Lu Ning’s hands itched to play. But suddenly, Ji Chiqian’s voice echoed in her mind. She had agreed with him to wait until after the monthly exam to decide if she could play games. Fine, she would hold back. She would wait until the exam results came out.

She took out her phone and, after some thought, sent a message to Ji Chiqian, “Master, I didn’t go to the infirmary after school last week because my second brother noticed I didn’t come home on time. I was afraid he’d find my secret base, so I didn’t go.”

After sending the message, she stared at the chat box for a long time, but there was no reply. She couldn’t help but check Ji Chiqian’s moments, but there was nothing. This man never posted anything? Strange.

On the other side, Ji Chiqian glanced at the message, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Chiqian, who sent you a message?” Ji Chiqian locked his screen.

Gu Zifeng raised an eyebrow, “Judging by the profile picture, it’s a girl, right? Could it be that girl you helped the other day, what’s her name… Ning, right?”

“You talk too much.”

“I think you’re guilty. You used to stay in the infirmary all the time, but suddenly stopped last week. And these days, you’ve been keeping a cold face. Are you fighting with her?”

Ji Chiqian turned his head, his eyes carrying a dangerous glint, “Don’t be curious about my business.”

“We grew up together. What of yours do I not know? Stop pretending.”

Ji Chiqian took his phone to the balcony, glanced at the chat box, and laughed softly. So, in her eyes, the infirmary was a secret base? He chuckled unconsciously and opened her moments. They were mostly daily life shares, very girly in style.

After a while, he realized he had spent too much time looking at her. This feeling was getting out of control. Ji Chiqian immediately exited the chat app and returned to the living room.

Lu Ning waited the whole day but still didn’t get a reply. Was he mad? But she didn’t dare send another message to bother him. She would wait until Monday when the results were out.

The entire weekend, Lu Ning stayed home to review. Qin Xiang and her brothers didn’t come back, probably staying at the training camp.

…

Monday morning. Lu Ning went downstairs and finally saw Qin Xiang and her brothers. They were chatting and laughing, clearly getting along even better. Lu Ning didn’t say anything and went straight to the dining room for breakfast.

Lu Liu spoke mockingly, “Today’s the day the results come out, right?” Lu Ning nodded, “Yes.”

“I told you to join the team long ago. With your grades, you won’t get into any good school. Instead of wasting time studying, you might as well start training to become a professional player. With the Lu family’s resources, becoming famous is only a matter of time. Too bad you didn’t cherish this chance and handed it over to Xiang Xiang.”

Lu Ning thought of the humiliation she suffered in her past life when she was replaced. She answered calmly, “I don’t really care.”

She took her breakfast and left the hall. Lu Liu saw Lu Ning’s indifferent attitude and was furious. “I can’t wait to see her so-called ‘good grades’. Hmph!”

Qin Xiang felt relieved seeing Lu Ning refuse to join the team. She knew Lu Ning was talented at gaming. If Lu Ning joined, wouldn’t that mean she’d lose her spot? But on the surface, she still smiled and said, “Sixth brother, don’t be angry. Sister Ning Ning is just throwing a tantrum. If she agrees to join the team later, I’ll immediately give her my spot.”

Lu Liu nodded in satisfaction, “You’re still the most sensible one.”

Qin Xiang’s smile froze slightly, feeling deeply resentful inside. She had been working hard these days to improve at the game, just to earn her sixth brother’s approval. But unfortunately, her sixth brother still seemed to think Lu Ning was better.

Qin Xiang made up her mind. She had to achieve results in the game and make her sixth brother give up on wanting Lu Ning in the team.

Lu Liu looked a little worried. After all, the repechage was crucial. If they lost, they would have no chance at all. Even though Qin Xiang worked hard, she simply didn’t have the talent. With only a month left before the repechage, her skills were still not up to par.

If they wanted to beat that Ji family boy, they needed someone truly capable. Now, Lu Ning was the only choice. But he couldn’t bring himself to ask her. Over the years, it had always been Lu Ning chasing after him, cautiously trying to please him. He was used to this brother-sister dynamic and couldn’t change it overnight.

How long was Lu Ning going to keep being stubborn? Did she really want to force him to lower his head?
