Chapter 71: The White Lotus Got Blamed

Lu Nanfeng was frustrated. He had arranged all of this to win Lu Ning’s favor, yet Qin Xiang had stolen the spotlight. Even if it was a misunderstanding, he couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable. Seeing Qin Xiang cry, the greasy team leader immediately stepped forward, “Mr. Lu, I don’t think this is Miss Qin’s fault. Miss Lu could’ve clarified her identity herself. She didn’t, so who’s to blame?”

Lu Nanfeng’s gaze turned cold, “You’re the one who hit my sister at the company yesterday, aren’t you? I was just looking for you.”

The greasy man’s face turned pale, “It was your sister who hit me first.”

“But you provoked her first with your filthy words. You don’t have to come to work anymore.”

The greasy man panicked. This wasn’t what he had expected at all. He looked to Qin Xiang for help.

Biting the bullet, Qin Xiang said, “Second Brother, he just repaired the firewall. He solved a big problem. We can’t fire him so easily.”

Lu Nanfeng was surprised, “Wasn’t Ningning the one who fixed it?”

The manager quickly explained, “Miss Lu said her code was stolen.”

The manager knew about the project. Miss Lu had been involved from the start, so she should be capable. As for the team leader, he hadn’t solved the firewall problem for so long; how could he have suddenly fixed it?

The greasy man defended himself, “I didn’t steal anything! I wrote it myself.”

Qin Xiang added, “That’s right. Sister Ningning, if you’re accusing someone of stealing your code, you should have evidence.”

Without evidence, even if Lu Ning insisted, it would be useless.

Lu Nanfeng glanced suspiciously at Lu Ning, “Ningning, are you sure it was him?”

Secretary Zhang immediately turned to the manager, “Get the surveillance footage.”

But soon the manager returned with a miserable look, “I checked. The lobby surveillance is broken. There’s no footage from the past few days.”

A glint of pride flashed in Qin Xiang’s eyes—she knew this would happen.

Feigning concern, she said, “What should we do?”

The greasy man smirked, “No evidence! Who can prove anything? Just because you’re the young lady doesn’t mean you can slander people.”

Qin Xiang showed a worried expression and looked at Lu Nanfeng, “Second Brother, we all know Sister Ningning worked hard to solve this, but she shouldn’t steal someone else’s credit just for the result.”

Lu Nanfeng looked troubled and extremely annoyed. He tugged at his tie and told Secretary Zhang, “Find other evidence.”

“Who said there’s no evidence?” Lu Ning suddenly said.

She opened her phone and pulled up last night’s surveillance recording. It clearly showed the greasy team leader swaggering over, copying her files, and tampering with her code.

Everything was crystal clear.

Lu Nanfeng, furious, slapped the greasy man, “How dare you tamper with my sister’s work? Tired of living?”

“I—I didn’t, I…” The greasy man was dumbfounded. How could this be? He had hacked into the company’s system and deleted the recent footage. How was there still evidence?

Seeing the video, Qin Xiang instantly sensed something was wrong. If Lu Ning had the footage, why didn’t she show it earlier? Was this a trap?

Quickly, she clutched the greasy man’s arm, tears brimming in her almond eyes, “How could you do this? I trusted you!”

The greasy man, catching a whiff of Qin Xiang’s perfume, felt weak all over. Rolling his eyes, he immediately said, “Yes, it was all my idea. I just couldn’t stand her arrogance. No one else was involved.”

At this point, he certainly couldn’t drag his goddess down. It must have been because the young lady was too domineering and often bullied his goddess that things turned out like this.

Qin Xiang breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she wasn’t exposed!

She turned to Lu Ning, looking aggrieved, “Sister Ningning, I shouldn’t have doubted you. I’m sorry.”

Lu Ning sneered, “You really should apologize.”

Qin Xiang’s face stiffened, lowering her gaze to appear pitiful.

The greasy man chimed in righteously, “Miss Xiang doubting you was normal. After all, you didn’t show the evidence earlier!”

Everyone around was shocked.

The manager roared angrily, “You stole the young lady’s code and still have the nerve to talk?”

Lu Nanfeng’s face darkened, “Secretary Zhang, fire this man and call the police!”

Hearing the words “fire” and “police,” the greasy man panicked.

Qin Xiang teared up again, casting a deep, sorrowful look at the greasy man. In the end, he didn’t dare reveal the truth and was taken away by security.

Lu Ning smiled faintly, “Seems Qin Xiang’s charm is really something. Men are tripping over themselves to cover for her.”

Even at this point, the greasy man hadn’t exposed Qin Xiang. It had to be said, the white lotus had some skills.

“Sister Ningning, you misunderstood. The team leader and I are just colleagues. There’s nothing between us. I was misled by him and really thought he wrote the code,” Qin Xiang said through gritted teeth.

Lu Ning twirled her phone lazily, “Because I wanted to see who was plotting against me.”

“It must have been the team leader, afraid of being blamed when Second Brother came to inspect, so he took the risk,” she said calmly.

Qin Xiang’s heart raced nervously. Lu Ning looked too calm; who knew what other evidence she might have?

Lu Nanfeng’s face was stern, “We must investigate thoroughly. I don’t believe a mere team leader would dare do something so bold alone.”
