Chapter 75: You Are Not My Family at All

Lu Ning coldly slammed her chopsticks down. She turned her head to look at Lu Nanfeng beside her, “I’m just telling the truth.”

“Severing ties isn’t something you can decide out of spite. I never agreed to it,” Lu Nanfeng was also growing angry. “I’ve been coaxing you for so long. You should be satisfied. Without the Lu family, you are nothing.”

The mockery in Lu Ning’s eyes deepened. So, he had finally lost patience and stopped pretending?

Gu Zifeng couldn’t stand it anymore, “Lu Nanfeng, what do you mean by saying that without the Lu family, Xiao Ning is nothing? Wasn’t it you who begged her to help this time?”

Ji Chiqian said coldly, “Without Lu Ning, you couldn’t have secured this cooperation at all.”

Lu Nanfeng felt extremely embarrassed, “But without me, how could Lu Ning, at her young age, even have a chance to participate in such a project? Impossible.”

There were plenty of talented people; not everyone got such opportunities. It was him who gave Lu Ning this chance.

Gu Zifeng immediately said, “Xiao Ning, the doors of Maple Leaf Corporation are always open for you.”

Lu Ning nodded, “Alright.”

“Lu Ning, you’d better think carefully. Other companies are not as simple as you imagine. Previously, you succeeded only because I was protecting you,” Lu Nanfeng warned.

Lu Ning looked up, her expression indifferent, “I don’t need you to worry about me. If you don’t like it, you can leave.”

Lu Nanfeng was at a loss for words but refused to leave.

Lu Nanfeng turned to Ji Chiqian, “Earlier, Lu Ning had some conflicts with the family. Thank you for taking care of her. I will remember this favor and help you whenever needed.”

“No need to be so polite,” Ji Chiqian casually poured himself a glass of red wine and took a few sips. He wasn’t fond of smoking or drinking, but right now, he just felt like drinking.

His gaze instinctively fell on Lu Ning. She sat properly in her chair, her long hair draping over her shoulders, her skin fair and her demeanor exceptionally quiet.

Ji Chiqian quickly withdrew his gaze, feeling a sudden irritability.

The meal ended in silence.

Except for the main people involved, the rest of the company’s staff didn’t dare to speak, let alone propose a toast. Only they were being toasted; they weren’t qualified to propose toasts.

Lu Ning stood up and left the private dining room, absentmindedly walking forward.

Lu Nanfeng deliberately walked side by side with Ji Chiqian and spoke deliberately, “Today’s meal is on me. Thank you, Ji Chiqian, for looking after my sister before.”

Ji Chiqian walked unhurriedly, “Since you know she’s important, don’t do things that hurt her.”

“Lu Ning is my sister. I’m the last person in the world who would hurt her.”

“But also the person most likely to hurt her,” Ji Chiqian’s gaze was icy. “You should know that better than me.”

Lu Nanfeng grew angry, “And you have no right to look after her. Who do you think you are? How do you see my sister?”

Ji Chiqian’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, “A friend.”

Hearing this answer from behind, Lu Ning tugged at the corner of her mouth, her expression a bit disheveled.

Right, just friends.

Lu Ning quickened her pace and went down the stairs, her mood a bit chaotic.

The wind outside calmed her slightly.

“Ningning, come home with me,” Lu Nanfeng looked at her earnestly, “I promise I’ll never treat you the way I did before.”

Out of the corner of her eye, Lu Ning saw Ji Chiqian walking over, his steps steady and his figure tall and lean. Her heart inexplicably beat faster.

Beep beep—

Gu Zifeng parked the car by the roadside and rolled down the window, “Xiao Ning, get in the car.”

Lu Ning turned and walked straight toward Gu Zifeng.

Lu Nanfeng was unwilling to give up, “Ningning.”

Ji Chiqian stepped forward, blocking Lu Nanfeng. He lowered his gaze slightly, his expression extremely cold, “Maybe you should learn to respect her choices.”

“You don’t understand. I’m worried about her living alone outside; it’s only natural! But you, an unknown man treating her so well, aren’t you the suspicious one?” Lu Nanfeng’s face turned ugly.

Ji Chiqian’s gaze remained calm and distant, “She would rather leave with an unknown man like me than return to the Lu family. Shouldn’t you reflect on that?”

After speaking, he walked toward Gu Zifeng’s car and got into the front passenger seat.

Lu Ning sat in the back, turning her head to look out the window at Lu Nanfeng, “I can manage on my own.”

“Ningning, I—” Before Lu Nanfeng could finish, he coughed violently, his hands covered in blood.

Seeing the blood, Lu Ning pressed her lips together, “You shouldn’t have drunk earlier.”

“Ningning, Second Brother really…”

Before Lu Nanfeng could finish, he collapsed in front of the car.

Lu Ning immediately got out of the car, “Second Brother, are you okay?”

Secretary Zhang also rushed over, looking very worried, “Miss Lu, actually, the boss wasn’t receiving proper treatment at the hospital. Knowing you were going to the branch office, he insisted on being discharged. No amount of persuasion worked. His condition has worsened.”

Lu Ning frowned, annoyed, “Then he should be at the hospital!”

What did he mean, discharged for her? She never asked him to do that.

“The boss’s temper is hard to control. Once we get to the hospital, please help persuade him too, Miss Lu.”

Secretary Zhang called the driver to help lift Lu Nanfeng into the car and then turned back to Lu Ning, looking pitiful, “Miss Lu, let’s go to the hospital together.”

Lu Ning stood there without moving, “I’m not a doctor. There’s no point in me going.”

Gu Zifeng, seeing the blood on the ground, couldn’t help but say, “How about we all go and check on him?”

Lu Ning finally nodded, “Sorry for the trouble.”

“It’s no trouble. We’re not busy anyway, let’s go together.”

Gu Zifeng could see that Lu Ning was hesitating. After all, he was her biological elder brother. If he was really seriously ill, she had to check on him.

Lu Ning sat silently after getting into the car.

Ji Chiqian looked back at her, “Don’t feel guilty. His illness isn’t your fault.”

“I know. I’ll just check and leave.”

Lu Ning felt conflicted and frustrated.

Gu Zifeng glanced at the rearview mirror, “Xiao Ning, even if he’s your Second Brother, don’t forgive him so easily. What they did to you before can’t just be brushed off.”

“I know. I’m not going back.”

Lu Ning was very clear in her heart—she wouldn’t forgive them. One thing had nothing to do with another.

When they arrived at the hospital, Lu Nanfeng was taken for examination.

However, Lu Nanfeng refused to cooperate. He stubbornly looked at Lu Ning, who had just gotten out of the car, “You’re willing to come see Second Brother?”

Didn’t this mean that deep down, Lu Ning still cared about her Second Brother?

Even though they had so many conflicts, they were still family.

Lu Ning got out of the car, heard his words, and kept a straight face without replying.

Lu Nanfeng looked at Lu Ning, “Will you accompany Second Brother for treatment? I remember you always used to accompany me to the hospital.”

Whenever he was sick, Lu Ning would be frantic, running up and down personally.

Lu Ning’s face was expressionless, “No.”
