Chapter 15: Mu Qingwan’s Troubles

Ever since Hun Yu signed the cancellation-of-engagement contract with her, Mu Qingwan had been feeling restless these past two days. For some reason, she always felt an emptiness in her heart, and Hun Yu’s figure kept surfacing in her mind.

Just now, while doing her hair, she suddenly noticed a jade comb tucked in the corner of the vanity. It had been discarded for a long time and was already covered in dust.

“Qingwan, look, I brought you something nice! I saw your comb was broken last time and always wanted to get you a new one, but couldn’t find a suitable one—until today! This one’s made of Wenling Jade. Isn’t it beautiful?”

At the time, Mu Qingwan had been feeling frustrated. Xiao Han had tried to hold her hand, but she shyly refused, which made him angry. He ignored her the whole afternoon.

Then Hun Yu came over, showing off a tacky comb, and her temper flared instantly.

“Are you insane? What are you giving me this ugly comb for? Do you really think I’d be happy receiving such an ugly thing? Do I look like I care? Do you think I can’t afford one myself? I don’t need anything from you! You know what? This stupid comb is just like you—completely useless and disgusting. I don’t want to see this comb, and I definitely don’t want to see you. Get lost, alright?”

Hun Yu stood frozen on the spot. He didn’t understand what he had done wrong this time to make Mu Qingwan so angry. The excitement he’d felt moments before was instantly doused by those cruel words.

Though disheartened, he still forced a smile and tried to appease her, saying, “Qingwan, look closely, this isn’t just any comb—it’s made from Wenling Jade and cost a lot of spiritual stones. I got it especially for you at Feng City’s auction. I promise, there’s no second one like it in Feng City! It’s light and easy to use, doesn’t damage your hair, and most importantly, it has Wenling Jade’s unique calming and concentration-enhancing effect—it’ll be really helpful for your cultivation. You can try it! Once you do, you’ll see how great it is, okay?”

Mu Qingwan threw the jade comb hard onto the floor and shoved Hun Yu away. His body slammed against the nearby table, and his lower back instantly turned red and throbbed with sharp pain.

“Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear what I said? Who cares if you bought that piece of junk at an auction? Wenling Jade or whatever, as long as it’s from you, I don’t like it! Seeing you ruins my mood. Can’t you just disappear from my sight?”

Hun Yu gasped in pain, one hand rubbing his waist as cold sweat broke out. Still, he forced himself to endure and said, “Alright, alright, don’t be angry. I’ll leave now. As long as you’re happy, I’ll just watch from afar.”

He picked up the jade comb that hadn’t shattered, gently placed it on the vanity’s corner, and seeing that Mu Qingwan didn’t throw it away again, he finally breathed a sigh of relief and quietly slipped out the door.

That scene vividly replayed in Mu Qingwan’s mind, and her lips curled into a bitter smile.

She casually picked up the dusty comb and gently blew off the dust, revealing its original smooth and delicate texture.

The jade comb she once discarded as ugly and offensive now looked so pleasing to the eye.

The elegant white jade had faint flows of jade water inside. Each movement created ripples of light that stirred something unexplainable deep within her.

She held it gently in her hand, becoming slightly entranced. Her lips unknowingly curved into a small smile.

For the first time, she treated it like a treasure and used it to comb her hair. Her movements were gentle, as if someone was beside her, lovingly brushing through her locks.

After a few strokes, she felt a refreshing, elegant aura seep into her mind. Her previously groggy nerves instantly cleared, leaving her completely refreshed and comfortable.

Dazed, she murmured softly, “It really… just like he said, this comb actually works so well… But back then, I was so harsh to him, so full of disdain. What was I thinking? He must’ve been so hurt.”

Just then, someone burst through the door without knocking, cutting off her thoughts entirely.

She frowned and looked up. It was Xiao Han.

In the past, whenever Xiao Han appeared so cheerfully in front of her, she would’ve been overjoyed, eyes full of affection.

But today, when he barged in so rudely, she surprisingly felt uncomfortable. She didn’t feel that usual excitement or warmth.

She asked, “Didn’t you say you were going to practice swordsmanship with Hua Wucuo? Why are you here suddenly?”

Xiao Han paused, feeling something was off. Normally, as soon as Mu Qingwan saw him, she would enthusiastically approach him. But today, she didn’t even get up, nor did she show any joy—just a hint of discontent. He was completely puzzled.

Then a thought struck him. Remembering what she just said, he quickly walked over with a teasing tone, “Oh~ Senior Sister Qingwan is still that jealous little girl. Just because I said I’d train swords with Third Senior Sister, you’re already upset? Why does it smell so sour in here? Don’t tell me you knocked over your vinegar jar! Haha~”

In the past, these sweet and flirty words would have delighted her, making her blush and playfully scold him. But today, for some reason, she didn’t find it funny at all. Not even a little.

In fact, his words made her feel strangely uncomfortable—repulsed even. Suddenly, she realized that these words no longer made her feel happy.

She frowned slightly and asked, “Did you come here for something?”

Xiao Han froze again, shocked. This wasn’t right. Senior Sister Qingwan loved hearing these kinds of things. Normally, she’d jump into his arms and playfully punch his chest. But today, she was acting so calm?

Naturally, he reached out to hold Mu Qingwan’s hand, something he had never failed at before—but today, he didn’t succeed. She subtly moved away.

That single motion made Xiao Han’s expression turn cold.

Since he arrived at Heavenly Profound Sect, none of the girls close to him had ever dodged his touch. Even when he got handsy, they’d only roll their eyes flirtatiously—never avoiding him like this.

He didn’t understand. What was wrong with Mu Qingwan today? She’d been acting strange since he stepped in. And that last move… it made him angry. He turned around without a word, slammed the door, and left.

Mu Qingwan glanced at Xiao Han’s departing figure but didn’t say anything to stop him. She let out a bitter sigh and murmured, “What is wrong with me?”
