The Female Leads Regret After the Villain Severed Ties, Leaving the Protagonist Broken - Chapter 4:
Chapter 4: The Woman Taken Away by Young Master Lu, No One Can Remain Untouched!
In the pitch-black stairwell, a group of burly men in black suits and sunglasses stood silently. Their figures were tall and strong, exuding a terrifying aura of slaughter. Each one looked fierce and intimidating, like fiends blocking the way.
Chen Mengyao’s delicate body froze. Her beautiful face turned pale as paper, and her heart thumped wildly, almost about to leap out of her chest. She felt her breath pause for a moment, and panic surged within her. Forcing herself to stay calm, she lowered her head and pretended as though she had seen nothing, preparing to slip away.
But the men in black didn’t move. They stood in perfect formation, like towering walls sealing off the passage completely.
Chen Mengyao bit her lip, trying hard to steady herself. She lifted her head slightly and whispered, “You… hello, could you please let me pass…”
Her voice was soft, carrying an uncontrollable tremble. Yet the black-clad men remained motionless, not even blinking.
Her heart sank instantly.
The thing she dreaded most had happened.
These people had indeed come for her. Otherwise, why would they block the way so unreasonably?
But she had only just arrived in Yanjing City, barely knowing her neighbors. How could so many people suddenly target her?
Could it be that Chen Zhicai owed gambling debts here as well? Or had these men chased her all the way from the Sichuan-Chongqing region?
The thought made her tremble even harder.
Her fingers tightened around the utility knife hidden in her pocket.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to ask, “May I ask… what business do you have with me?” Step by step, she backed away. Her fair hand gripping the knife shook slightly, beads of sweat dripping from her palm.
The black-clad men exchanged glances.
One of them gave a hand signal, and immediately, two stepped forward from the line and advanced toward her.
Chen Mengyao’s heart skipped a beat. She retreated until her back pressed against the cold wall.
Pulling out the utility knife, she held it before her chest, her voice trembling, “Don’t… don’t come closer, or else I’ll…”
Her voice grew weaker, edged with sobs, yet her eyes stayed fixed on them like a wounded but unyielding kitten, unwilling to show weakness even in despair.
The leading man frowned slightly and asked, “Is it her?”
Another looked her over carefully and nodded, “Yes, it’s her.”
Hearing their exchange, despair filled Chen Mengyao’s chest. She quickly said, “If it’s money you want, I’ll work hard and repay it, but please, let my family go.” She drew a shaky breath and pleaded, “I beg you… my mother is ill and cannot take any shock. I swear I’ll pay everything back, truly…”
Just when despair engulfed her, the two leading men suddenly bowed and said respectfully, “You’ve misunderstood. We were ordered by Young Master to invite you. Please don’t make this difficult for us.”
Chen Mengyao’s beautiful almond-shaped eyes blinked in confusion, her mind going blank. Young Master?! She stammered, “Invite me?”
The leader nodded firmly, “Yes, to invite you.”
His voice was solemn, with no trace of a joke.
She shook her head, utterly bewildered. “I don’t know you… and this Young Master you speak of, who is he?” She was certain she had never met anyone like that, let alone crossed paths with such a person.
The man didn’t answer. Instead, he gestured politely and said sincerely, “Please come with us. Young Master will explain everything to you.”
With that, he bowed once more. His every movement carried respect and courtesy.
The twenty or so men behind him also bowed in unison, perfectly synchronized, as if rehearsed countless times.
Chen Mengyao had never seen such a display. She swallowed nervously, still filled with questions she couldn’t untangle.
Yet her mother and younger sister were at home—she had no choice. Biting her lip, she slowly put away the utility knife and whispered, “Then… let’s go.”
The leader’s expression lit up as he immediately turned to guide the way. Though still wary, Chen Mengyao had no choice but to follow. The rest quickly fell in line, escorting her down the building.
Residents nearby, who had gathered to watch, were left wide-eyed. Not only them, even pedestrians and drivers passing by in the distance stopped, their gazes all drawn to the scene.
“Looks like another girl caught Young Master Lu’s eye.”
“Ah, what a pity. Once Young Master Lu takes a woman away, her innocence is gone forever.”
“Who told the Lu Family to dominate Yanjing City?”
“Not only Yanjing, few powers in the entire Dragon Nation dare to provoke the Lu Family…”
“Shh, keep your voice down. If the wrong ears hear you, we’ll be in trouble.”
The crowd whispered in pity, their eyes full of regret as they looked at Chen Mengyao.
Her fingers clenched tightly at the hem of her clothes, head bowed low as she silently followed the men out of the alley.
When one of them opened the scissor door of a luxury sports car and gestured for her to get in, she finally snapped back to reality.
She didn’t recognize the brand of the car, but she knew at once—it was extremely, extremely expensive.
After a moment of hesitation, she climbed inside.
The interior wasn’t as ostentatious as she had imagined, but its simple design radiated refined luxury.
Sitting on the soft seat, Chen Mengyao felt uneasy all over. Her gaze swept around, finally landing on the driver’s seat.
There sat a young man in casual black clothes and sunglasses. Though his full face wasn’t visible, his sharp, handsome features were unmistakable.
Chen Mengyao’s heart skipped, and she quickly averted her gaze. At that moment, a bouquet of pink roses with a rich fragrance was handed to her.
Along with it came a warm, magnetic voice, “For you.”
