The Ten Heroines are Insane! - Chapter 107:
Chapter 107: Self-Cultivation of a Scumbag:
Xu Ze walked back to his room, feeling a bit helpless.
Nalan Qing’s words had left him deeply disappointed. Yet, in his past nine lives, she had been such a loving person. Despite his disappointment, Xu Ze also felt a sense of resignation.
The only reason he could still tolerate her—and even play tricks with her occasionally—was because of the guilt he carried for abandoning her in their previous lives. In this life, he had vowed to be as patient as possible, even if she continued her reckless behavior.
But now, Xu Ze realized that Nalan Qing seemed completely consumed by her love for money. Was he really less important to her than wealth?
He sighed.
As he approached the courtyard where he was temporarily staying, he noticed a girl in a blue robes sitting at a stone table, resting her chin in her hands, tapping her fingers idly on the surface. Her cold expression betrayed a hint of resentment and anger.
“Uh-oh… Why is Qinghan here?” Xu Ze’s heart skipped a beat, but he kept his composure and walked over calmly.
“Qinghan, why are you here so early?” he asked.
As soon as Qu Qinghan saw Xu Ze, she stood up abruptly, suspicion evident in her eyes. She even sniffed the air around him.
“The scent of a woman?” she muttered as a light fragrance wafted into her nose. Qu Qinghan’s expression darkened immediately.
“Is this Nalan Yun’er’s scent? The Holy Son visited the second lady of the Nalan family last night?” she asked with a sickly, twisted smile.
Xu Ze broke out in a cold sweat.
What was it with women and their terrifying sense of smell?
Despite his panic, Xu Ze kept his face calm. “Yes, I couldn’t sleep last night, so I went for a walk and happened to run into Miss Nalan’s… tutu…”
“How convenient. And did you spend the entire night reading in her room?” Qu Qinghan’s cold smile deepened.
“Well, Qinghan, you guessed it right.” Xu Ze nodded repeatedly, feeling the tension build as Qu Qinghan’s anger became more palpable.
Sweat began to form on Xu Ze’s forehead. He looked at her increasingly devastated expression, then took a deep breath and placed his hands firmly on her shoulders.
“If I told you that I did nothing inappropriate and really just read with Miss Yun all night, would you believe me, Qinghan?”
“Eh?”
Caught off guard by his sudden sincerity, Qu Qinghan hesitated. She looked up and saw the seriousness in Xu Ze’s eyes.
“There’s only Qinghan in my heart. No one else. No one can ever compare to you.” Xu Ze said, using his most convincing scumbag tactics to lie with a straight face.
And it worked perfectly.
Qu Qinghan’s face turned red, her dark expression softening. Shy and flustered, she stammered, “D-don’t say things like that… What if someone hears us?”
“So what if they do? We’re in love. Let them hear.” Xu Ze replied, holding her hand, his eyes filled with tenderness.
All of Qu Qinghan’s anger melted away, and Xu Ze secretly wiped the sweat from his eyebrows. Thank goodness he was a ninth-generation scumbag!
Relieved, Xu Ze asked, “So, why did you come looking for me, Qinghan? Did you miss me?”
Qu Qinghan pouted, “Of course I did! You ignored me at dinner last night. You’re so mean… And don’t forget, the day after tomorrow is my 20th birthday…”
Xu Ze smiled warmly. “Of course, I remember. How could I forget your birthday?”
But he panicked inside, “The day after tomorrow? How did time fly so fast? I don’t have a gift ready!”
“And the gift?” Qu Qinghan asked, her eyes full of anticipation.
“Ah, yes, I’ve got it ready.” Xu Ze’s expression didn’t falter. “But gifts are best given on the actual day, right? It’s more mysterious that way.”
“Yes!” Qu Qinghan blushed and nodded eagerly.
Looking at her happy face, Xu Ze felt the pressure mounting.
…
Nalan Yun slept until noon.
When she finally woke up, she yawned and sat up in bed, her heart full of joy as she remembered reading with Xu Ze the night before. Her face flushed with happiness. But then, she noticed her sister, Nalan Qing, sitting on the floor nearby, looking utterly defeated.
“Big sister?” Nalan Yun asked in confusion.
What had happened to her?
She looked like she’d been bullied.
Nalan Yun walked over and waved her hand in front of Nalan Qing’s face. “Sister?”
“Oh… Yun’er, you’re awake…” Nalan Qing smiled weakly, clearly lost in her own thoughts. “I saw you sleeping and decided to wait here for you…”
What a fool. Nalan Yun raised an eyebrow, clearly not believing her sister’s excuse.
Suddenly, Nalan Qing’s eyes filled with tears, and she hugged Nalan Yun, sobbing. “Yun’er! The Holy Son said he’s disappointed in me! He doesn’t want me anymore! Ughh!”
Nalan Yun blinked, completely bewildered.
“And my money! My money is gone!” Nalan Qing wailed. “Love is gone, and so is the money! Waaahhh!”
Nalan Yun sighed as her sister recounted everything, including how she had been threatened by the mysterious demon lord.
Nalan Yun thought inwardly, “What a mess, my sister really is clueless sometimes.”
“Last night… did you and the Holy Son…” Nalan Qing asked hesitantly, sniffling as she looked at her sister.
“We read a book,” Nalan Yun answered simply.
“Really? Just reading?” Nalan Qing looked relieved, but then immediately grew disappointed. “If I had known, I wouldn’t have said all those things… I thought that even if he didn’t want me, at least you would stay with him.”
Nalan Yun sighed, feeling a bit helpless. She knew her sister better than anyone. Though Nalan Qing never admitted it, Xu Ze’s presence in her ninth life was incredibly important to her. Otherwise, her normally stingy sister would never have given so much to the Holy Land in order to win Xu Ze over.
“And that demon lord’s strength…” Nalan Qing muttered, clinging to her sister’s hand, “Yun’er, you’re my last hope…”
Nalan Yun thought for a moment, and suddenly her eyes lit up as an idea struck her.
