Chapter 137: The Holy Son Is Still the Scumbag in My Impression

After driving Jing Xiaoxuan out, Xu Ze rubbed his numb ears. He truly had no idea what was going on in that girl’s head. She had just made him angry, and now she was back to cause more trouble. Was it because he spoiled her too much, or was she entering a rebellious phase?

Glancing at the towering pile of papers on his desk that still needed his attention, Xu Ze’s mood soured even more. However, given his position, he had no choice but to suppress his irritation and continue reviewing patiently.

At that moment, the door was pushed open, and Lin Yuer poked her head inside with a smile. Xu Ze frowned, “What do you want?”

“Nothing much,” Lin Yuer said sweetly. “Seeing that Lord Holy Son is working so hard, Yu’er prepared a bowl of rock sugar snow pear to help you relax.”

She walked in with a smile, carefully holding a porcelain bowl filled with rock sugar snow pear. Even though it was winter, the Holy Fire Palace enjoyed a summer-like climate year-round, so fresh fruits were always available.

Xu Ze’s stern expression softened slightly, and he nodded, “Put it there.”

Seeing the slight change in his expression, Lin Yuer felt a sense of satisfaction and placed the bowl carefully on the table.

Outside the door, Tie Fei, who was peeking through the crack, nearly collapsed from frustration.

“Ugh, so sneaky! She actually used that move. If I had known, I would have cooked something for the Holy Son too.”

Nalan Yun shot a glance at Jing Xiaoxuan, who seemed equally frustrated. Jing Xiaoxuan cooking? Better not—just thinking about it was terrifying enough after hearing her singing.

Still, Lin Yuer’s idea was undeniably clever. When a man is busy, there’s no need to pester him with cuteness or interruptions; it would only make him more irritable. Compared to Jing Xiaoxuan’s cluelessness, it was only natural that Lin Yuer had gained the upper hand.

Lin Yuer, knowing Xu Ze better than anyone, understood that the best thing she could do now was to quietly stay by his side. She stood silently next to him, watching as he reviewed document after document.

There were disciple assessment matters to resolve, monthly expense reports from each palace, approvals for spiritual stone allocations, and weekly reports from the major sects of the lower realms—an endless pile of tedious information.

Time passed slowly. Lin Yuer stood quietly as Xu Ze worked, but the once-steaming rock sugar snow pear gradually cooled and lost its warmth. Xu Ze’s brows furrowed deeper and deeper. Even Lin Yuer, patient as she was, began to feel restless.

Outside, the sky had already darkened.

Seeing this, Lin Yuer gathered her courage. “Holy Son, you’ve been working all day. How about taking a break and having some rock sugar snow pear?” she suggested gently.

Xu Ze glanced at her but quickly lowered his head again, flipping through the booklet in his hands.

“Uh… Holy Son?” Lin Yuer pressed her lips together.

“If you have nothing else, leave,” Xu Ze said coldly, without even looking up.

The indifference in his voice stung. Lin Yuer felt her eyes well up with tears, and a wave of grievance surged in her heart.

“Yes, Yu’er will leave now…” she whispered, lowering her head and walking out quietly.

As she closed the door behind her, she saw Jing Xiaoxuan standing outside, grinning smugly. Holding back her tears, Lin Yuer snorted coldly.

“What are you laughing at? At least I wasn’t kicked out.”

“Well,” Jing Xiaoxuan replied with a smirk, “we’re even then. At least I didn’t cry.”

“You!” Lin Yuer furiously wiped her eyes, determined not to let the tears fall. “The Holy Son is just too busy right now. No matter who goes in, the result would be the same!”

“How about we compete again tomorrow?” she suggested.

“The competition starts tomorrow. The Holy Son will be even busier,” Jing Xiaoxuan replied.

As the two continued to argue, Nalan Yun silently walked past them toward the palace and calmly opened the door.

“Huh? What is Nalan Yun planning to do?” Lin Yuer and Jing Xiaoxuan turned to look, surprised.

Lin Yuer and Jing Xiaoxuan glanced at each other, then silently watched as Nalan Yun walked inside.

“She’s not trying to make the Holy Son happy too, is she?” Lin Yuer whispered.

“Are you kidding? We’ve all failed. How could that idiot Nalan Yun succeed…” Jing Xiaoxuan muttered.

The two crept closer and peered through the crack in the door.

Inside, Nalan Yun walked up to Xu Ze, said something they couldn’t hear, and then—shockingly—took the booklet straight from his hands and began reading it.

“She must be crazy, disturbing the Holy Son while he’s working…” Lin Yuer said.

“Hmph, she’ll definitely be kicked out like us.” Jing Xiaoxuan crossed her arms smugly. “Don’t lump me in with you. I left on my own.”

“Sure.”

Inside the room, Xu Ze looked at Nalan Yun, slightly surprised.

He watched as Nalan Yun calmly sat on a small bench, holding the booklet in her hands and writing carefully. After making her notes, she handed the booklet back to Xu Ze.

“Oh?” Xu Ze raised an eyebrow, studying the comments. The handwriting was almost identical to his own, and the notes were thorough and meticulous. His eyes lit up as he glanced at Nalan Yun.

Nalan Yun sat there with a faint pride on her face, her small chest puffed out confidently.

“As expected of Yun’er! Your work is impeccable!” Xu Ze said, clapping his hands in delight.

Without hesitation, he pulled Nalan Yun over and positioned her in front of the desk. A towering pile of paperwork sat before her.

“Yun’er, I’ll leave all of this to you from now on!” Xu Ze said enthusiastically.

“Eh?” Nalan Yun was startled.

Just as she was about to protest, Xu Ze patted her shoulder and said warmly, “I believe Yun’er can definitely handle it, right?”

Under Xu Ze’s gentle and trusting gaze, Nalan Yun’s face flushed red. She felt a little dizzy under the ‘big scumbag’s’ gaze and could only nod weakly.

Perfect.

Xu Ze immediately felt the heavy burden on his shoulders lift. He felt light, as if he could float away.

Among the ten female leads, Nalan Yun was the smartest. She was familiar with all the classics of the Qiankun Continent, and handling the affairs of the Holy Land was a simple task for her.

Although it seemed a little shameless to have a girl who liked him work for him, Xu Ze had entertained this thought many times back in his ninth life. Each of the female leads had their own strengths. If he could assign them according to their talents, then Xu Ze would never have to worry about managing the upper and lower realms or all the trivial matters of the Holy Land.

“Not bad, not bad,” Xu Ze nodded approvingly as he flipped through the booklet and observed Nalan Yun’s smooth and efficient work.

“It looks like Yun’er will stay by my side from now on…” he mused.

As he spoke, he reached out and gently patted Nalan Yun’s head as a reward.

The gentle pat made Nalan Yun’s face flush even deeper, but it also made her work even more diligently.

Outside the door, Lin Yuer and Jing Xiaoxuan stood watching the scene unfold.

Although Xu Ze was so gentle to Nalan Yun, strangely, neither of them felt the slightest bit envious.

“The Holy Son is still the same scumbag I remember from the previous nine lives…” Lin Yuer muttered.

“Yeah… scumbag…” Jing Xiaoxuan agreed.
