Chapter 112: Shangguan Fengwu’s Doting, The Tenderness of the Queen of the Underworld

When Shangguan Fengwu arrived, she didn’t spare a glance at anyone else. Without hesitation, she walked straight toward Hou Longtao, the boss of Qingyang District’s underworld.

Despite being thinner and more delicate-looking than the burly Hou Longtao, Shangguan Fengwu radiated such overwhelming dominance that it was clear to everyone—she was the one in control.

Her cold gaze swept across Hou Longtao as she narrowed her eyes. “Who gave you permission to act?” she asked, her voice sharp and icy.

A cold sweat broke out on Hou Longtao’s forehead. He tried to explain quickly, “Miss Shangguan, it was Zhang Mu. He brought people into my territory and tried to beat up my brother Ye Feng, so I—”

Smack!

Before he could finish his sentence, Shangguan Fengwu struck him across the face with a crisp slap. Her expression didn’t change as she repeated in a low, dangerous tone, “I asked you—who gave you permission to act? Didn’t I tell you clearly this afternoon not to stir up trouble?”

Hou Longtao remembered clearly.

Earlier that day, Shangguan Fengwu had summoned him and instructed him to lay low, avoid unnecessary conflict, and especially not to provoke the heirs of major families.

It was because of her warning that Hou Longtao had arrived late—by the time he showed up, Ye Feng had already been beaten badly.

He’d acted on impulse, moved by loyalty to Ye Feng, his newly sworn brother.

But now, standing before the underworld queen’s wrath, he realized the gravity of his mistake.

“I… I…” Hou Longtao tried to explain, but the sight of Shangguan Fengwu’s icy gaze made him panic. Realizing his mistake, he quickly lowered his head and apologized, “I’m sorry, Miss Shangguan! It was my fault! I disobeyed your orders and caused trouble. I’m really sorry!”

Just moments ago, Hou Longtao had been acting arrogant and domineering in Qingyang District. But now, in front of Shangguan Fengwu, he was incredibly humble. He bowed deeply and dared not utter a single word of protest. He didn’t even dare look directly at her. Though he claimed to be the underground emperor of Qingyang District, the truth was less flattering—he was nothing more than a dog raised by the Shangguan family.

Shangguan Fengwu was not only the eldest daughter of the Shangguan family but also a ruthless figure. The number of people she had killed, directly or indirectly, over the years was uncountable. Countless organizations, large and small, had been wiped out because of her. The Shangguan family’s rise to dominance in the underworld was closely tied to her.

Without her, there would be no “Queen of the Underworld.”

Even if Hou Longtao had acted high and mighty a moment ago, he still had to obey Shangguan Fengwu. As for Ye Feng, all Hou Longtao could do now was apologize and hope for the best. The thugs and his subordinates who had followed him here stood in absolute silence. After seeing his submissive behavior and learning of Shangguan Fengwu’s identity, none of them dared to raise their heads or speak.

Zhang Mu stood to the side, watching everything unfold. The moment Shangguan Fengwu appeared, she stunned the entire crowd.

The fearsome underworld boss of Qingyang District, Hou Longtao, had bowed and apologized repeatedly. Even Zhang Mu was confused.

He couldn’t understand why Shangguan Fengwu had shown up here, or what she was thinking.

In his previous life, when he had come to trouble Ye Feng, there were indeed others involved. Those close to Yu Xuanwei, the female assassin, and Xie Ruolin, the intelligence queen, played a part. Shangguan Fengwu had also been connected—she had silently allowed Hou Longtao to help Ye Feng deal with Zhang Mu.

Although she was the Queen of the Underworld, she was still a female lead.

In the original plotline, by this point, Ye Feng had already begun making a name for himself in Capital and had established a relationship with Shangguan Fengwu.

After receiving some benefits from Ye Feng, Shangguan Fengwu had let him use Hou Longtao’s strength, along with the Shangguan family’s influence, to deal with Zhang Mu and the Zhang family.

However, in the original version, Shangguan Fengwu never appeared in person. So why had she suddenly shown up in this life—and even scolded Hou Longtao? Was she trying to help this playboy and villain? That didn’t make sense.

Wait! Zhang Mu suddenly realized something. This time, due to small changes, Ye Feng hadn’t succeeded in showing off by beating him up. Instead, Ye Feng had been beaten. As a result, the world of the novel had adjusted itself, allowing Shangguan Fengwu to appear and help the protagonist. Now that Shangguan Fengwu had seen Ye Feng hurt, she had stepped in to take his side.

That had to be it.

This way, the plotline could continue more smoothly. Shangguan Fengwu was not just the Queen of the Underworld—she was also a female lead, far more powerful than Hou Longtao, who was just a minor character.

Having her step in to assist Ye Feng matched the tone of an urban power-fantasy novel like Dragon Travels Back to the Capital. She was clearly arranged by the plotline to help Ye Feng slap Zhang Mu in the face.

At this moment, Zhang Mu understood.

As long as he continued playing the role of a ruthless villain, standing against the protagonist and female lead, he would complete his purpose in the plotline. By being a vicious obstacle, he would highlight Ye Feng’s nobility and righteousness.

Everything was back on track.

At this moment, Zhang Mu suddenly asked in a completely inappropriate tone, “Shangguan Fengwu, what are you doing here? Did you come to help Ye Feng?”

He sneered, voice filled with contempt. “I’m telling you now—no matter who shows up today, I’m breaking his legs!”

His words left Hou Longtao and his men utterly stunned. First, they were shocked that Zhang Mu dared to speak so rudely to Shangguan Fengwu. It was nothing short of suicidal. But soon, they realized what his words implied—was Shangguan Fengwu really here to help Ye Feng?

Hou Longtao suddenly remembered that Ye Feng had mentioned more than once that he had a connection with Miss Shangguan. He used to say that he would work with Shangguan Fengwu one day, that they’d pull off something big together.

He even claimed he had ties with the Shangguan family. Although Shangguan Fengwu had never confirmed any of this, with her cold and domineering personality, it was perfectly believable that she wouldn’t care to explain her personal affairs to outsiders.

Now, hearing what Zhang Mu said and seeing Shangguan Fengwu’s presence, it seemed even more likely—she had come to help Ye Feng.

Realizing this, Hou Longtao’s heart swelled with admiration. His brother Ye Feng really was something! He looked at Ye Feng with joy and pride.

Ye Feng, who was lying beaten on the ground, also met Hou Longtao’s gaze.

He too had heard everything.

Recently, he had tried multiple times to establish business ties with Shangguan Fengwu. Though she either ignored him or directly rejected him each time, Ye Feng remained confident that she would accept him eventually.

Most importantly, Ye Feng had absolute faith in himself—he believed that no beautiful woman he set his eyes on would escape his grasp. Shangguan Fengwu would be no exception.

So, given what Zhang Mu had just said, Ye Feng became more convinced that Shangguan Fengwu had come here to help him. Even though he was lying there, bruised and bloodied, he still felt victorious. As long as Shangguan Fengwu supported him, he, the Dragon King, would make sure Zhang Mu paid the price for today!

But Shangguan Fengwu didn’t even spare a glance at Ye Feng. Instead, her gaze remained fixed on Zhang Mu. Her beautiful eyes still carried their usual coldness and dominance—but deep within them, there was a softness, a gentle warmth, even a trace of affection.

This familiar place stirred memories from her past life.

Back then, she had lost her sense of judgment, mistaking Ye Feng—a man with hidden, malicious intentions—for a friend, while overlooking Zhang Mu. She had dismissed him as a typical rich playboy, not worth her attention. She hadn’t known that Zhang Mu had been silently helping her behind the scenes, and had even saved her life once.

Over time, she realized how genuine and kind Zhang Mu was. Compared to Ye Feng, who schemed from the shadows and was secretly known as the Dragon King, Zhang Mu was like a quiet, kind-hearted angel. Shangguan Fengwu had felt deep regret.

In that past life, she had silently fallen for Zhang Mu, overcome with guilt and affection. Now, reborn, she was determined not to let him get hurt again.

She had already known what would happen today and had warned Hou Longtao not to provoke Zhang Mu. She simply wanted to protect him from unnecessary trouble. But still uneasy, she came to witness everything herself. And when she saw Hou Longtao about to clash with Zhang Mu, she immediately stepped in to stop it.

However, in this life, she hadn’t had much direct contact with Zhang Mu yet. She didn’t know how to explain that she was here for him.

As Shangguan Fengwu struggled to find the right words, Hou Longtao—completely misunderstanding her intentions—trembled with excitement. He thought Miss Shangguan had come to back up Ye Feng. And with Ye Feng so badly beaten, now was the perfect time for revenge.

Ye Feng looked like he wanted to speak, but couldn’t. Hou Longtao, seizing the moment, stepped forward and started complaining to Shangguan Fengwu.

“Miss Shangguan,” he said, pointing at Zhang Mu, “this guy from the Zhang family was outrageously arrogant today! He came to my territory and stirred up trouble. Not only that, he beat up my brother Ye Feng!”

“He clearly doesn’t take you or the Shangguan family seriously at all!”

Of course, Hou Longtao didn’t dare to tell Shangguan Fengwu what to do. But he hoped that, based on her supposed closeness to Ye Feng, she would help teach Zhang Mu a lesson and get revenge on Ye Feng’s behalf.

But Shangguan Fengwu didn’t even acknowledge Hou Longtao’s words.

The Queen of the Underworld stood still, her expression unreadable, clearly hesitating. She wasn’t here to help Ye Feng slap Zhang Mu in the face. Instead, she seemed deeply conflicted.

Zhang Mu, playing the role of the arrogant villain, decided to provoke her even more. With a smirk, he taunted, “Shangguan Fengwu, your subordinates are awfully noisy. You should learn to control them.”

“And what? You came here to stop me from dealing with Ye Feng? Are you really going to take his side? Do you want to make the Zhang family your enemy?”

“I’m warning you—don’t interfere. Or you’ll regret it.”

The crowd gasped.

Zhang Mu had actually dared to threaten Shangguan Fengwu. Even Hou Longtao was secretly delighted—this kid was done for.

Didn’t Zhang Mu know what Miss Shangguan hated most was being threatened? Everyone who ever tried ended up either dead or crippled.

Ye Feng, still lying on the ground, felt reassured. Based on what he knew about Shangguan Fengwu’s personality, she wouldn’t tolerate this kind of provocation. He thought he was safe now.

But to everyone’s surprise, Shangguan Fengwu wasn’t angry at all.

She didn’t even have the time to feel guilty about Zhang Mu yet—how could she possibly be mad at him? She could tell he had misunderstood her, so she quickly spoke.

“No… I don’t want to be your enemy… or the enemy of the Zhang family.”
