Chapter 87:

Hearing the whispers from her employees, Su Muwan’s delicate eyebrows furrowed tightly.

“If you’re not going to work, then go home! Stop chattering here!” she said coldly, her tone sharp.

She couldn’t stand anyone bad-mouthing her dear little angel—not even her own employees!

“Yes, Miss Su!”
“We’re sorry, Miss Su!”
“Understood, Miss Su!”
“Got it!”

Hearing Su Muwan’s stern words, the employees hurriedly gathered their belongings and prepared to leave, their faces pale.

They were all genuinely terrified of Su Muwan’s methods, which were both ruthless and awe-inspiring.

Although she commanded their admiration, her cold demeanor left them in silent fear.

As the employees finally left and stopped slandering Zhang Mu, Su Muwan rubbed her temples to ease her exhaustion.

Lately, she had been working overtime even more than usual.

But contrary to her employees’ assumptions, it wasn’t to sever ties with Zhang Mu or cancel their engagement.

In fact, it was the opposite.

In this life, she had already resolved to cherish the man who loved her with all his heart.

The reason she worked so hard was so that she could stay by his side forever.

Every time she thought about how Zhang Mu had been killed by Ye Feng in their previous life, her heart ached unbearably.

This time, she was determined to change that tragic outcome.

She wanted to protect Zhang Mu.

She wanted to destroy that despicable and shameless Ye Feng.

She worked tirelessly to strengthen the Su Corporation for that purpose.

She would use every resource she had to stand against Ye Feng and shield Zhang Mu.

After all, in their previous life, this man had given everything for her without hesitation.

Thinking about the moment before Zhang Mu’s death, when he called out her name with such longing, her heart twisted with pain.

The sacrifices he had made for her in their past life far outweighed her current efforts.

What she was doing now was nothing compared to his selfless love.

That kind of devotion had deeply moved her, leaving her no choice but to repay it in this lifetime.

Suddenly, she thought about Zhang Mu.

After finishing her work, she wanted to talk to him.

Just imagining his face brought a rare smile to her usually icy and beautiful countenance.

Reaching into her pocket, Su Muwan froze in shock.

She had forgotten her phone in her office earlier that afternoon!

Her important work temporarily forgotten, she immediately left the meeting room and hurried back to her office.

Normally, Su Muwan had a habit of not bringing her personal phone while working to avoid distractions.

She had a separate phone for business matters, managed by her secretary.

But Zhang Mu always contacted her through her personal phone.

Other people’s messages didn’t matter to her, but Zhang Mu’s messages were different.

No matter the time, she made it a point to reply to him instantly.

What if Zhang Mu had messaged her while she was without her phone?

Back in her office, Su Muwan quickly retrieved her phone from the drawer and unlocked it.

Ignoring countless messages from family members, business tycoons, and clients, she immediately opened her chat with Zhang Mu.

When she saw the screen, her breath hitched.

Zhang Mu had called her earlier!

And she hadn’t answered!

Ahhh!!!

She felt a wave of regret, sadness, and frustration all at once.

Opening the chat, she saw several messages Zhang Mu had sent her.

Far from feeling threatened by his words, she only saw his deep concern and affection for her.

Just like in their previous life, Zhang Mu’s words were always stern on the surface, but he never truly did anything to hurt her.

On the contrary, he had sacrificed nearly everything for her.

Looking at the messages filled with care and love, Su Muwan felt an overwhelming sense of guilt for not replying sooner.

Imagining her beloved little angel feeling hurt and sending these messages out of frustration made her heart ache.

He must have been so upset, maybe even crying.

Was he still sad now?

Her delicate eyebrows furrowed deeply, and she bit her lip, her face filled with remorse.

At that moment, she wanted to rush to Zhang Mu’s house, apologize to him, and tell him how much she loved him.

She wanted to explain that missing his call had been an accident and reassure him not to cry.

But Su Muwan suppressed her impulse.

It was late, and Zhang Mu was likely asleep by now.

She didn’t want to disturb or scare him by showing up so suddenly.

Instead, she considered sending him a message to apologize.

But after typing out a lengthy apology, her fingers hesitated over the send button.

“It’s late. Zhang Mu is probably asleep…”
“I shouldn’t disturb his rest.”
“It’s better to apologize to him in person tomorrow.”
“My dear, please don’t be too upset tonight. Don’t cry…”

With a heavy heart, Su Muwan put down her phone.

…

Meanwhile, Zhang Mu was happily playing video games.

He even invited Yu Xuanwei to join him for a co-op session, and the room was filled with cheerful energy.

Completely oblivious to Su Muwan’s internal struggle, Zhang Mu was having the time of his life.

After thoroughly enjoying himself, he decided it was time to sleep.

But as he lay down, he noticed Yu Xuanwei, still in her maid outfit, crawling into his bed.

Frowning, Zhang Mu asked, “What are you doing? I’m trying to sleep.”

Yu Xuanwei replied meekly, “I’m helping warm your bed, Young Master.”

“Get out!” Zhang Mu waved her off. “I don’t need you to warm my bed. Don’t make it dirty.”

Hearing his words, Yu Xuanwei immediately climbed out of bed.

Truth be told, seeing such a stunning maid offering to warm his bed was tempting for Zhang Mu.

But he was worried he might lose control.

If he did something inappropriate with Yu Xuanwei, how would the plotline progress?

So, he firmly rejected her.

Yu Xuanwei, however, noticed his hesitation and couldn’t help but smirk to herself.

“Young Master Zhang is so kind. He’s worried about me, so he pretends to be annoyed and doesn’t let me warm his bed,” she thought smugly.

Feeling Zhang Mu’s supposed concern, her face flushed with happiness.

Blushing deeply, she spun around the room a few times before grabbing a spare set of bedding from the cupboard.

“What are you doing now?” Zhang Mu asked, confused.

“I’m setting up a makeshift bed on the floor, so I can stay nearby and assist you whenever you need, Young Master,” she said with a sweet smile.

Looking at the petite figure of Yu Xuanwei, who had likely taken more lives than he could count, Zhang Mu was speechless.

“Staying in the same room, huh? Are you trying to take care of me—or kill me in my sleep?”

No one understood Yu Xuanwei’s ruthless nature better than Zhang Mu.

In their previous life, she had tortured him multiple times.

Even though he could suppress his pain receptors, her methods left a lasting impression on him.

Because of that, he didn’t believe a single kind word that came out of her mouth.

Still, if she wanted to scheme against him, he would let her.

It would only help the plot progress more smoothly.

“Fine,” Zhang Mu said after some thought.

Hearing his approval, Yu Xuanwei beamed with joy, her face glowing with happiness.

As the lights went out and the room grew silent, Zhang Mu noticed that Yu Xuanwei remained perfectly still on the floor.

“Isn’t she supposed to try something while I’m asleep?” he wondered.

“Maybe she’s waiting for the middle of the night… Or maybe she’s just scared I’ll catch her.”

This wasn’t right.

In the original novel, Yu Xuanwei would have started scheming within days of infiltrating his life.

She would have poisoned him with slow-acting toxins and collaborated with Ye Feng to sabotage him.

But in this lifetime, she seemed unusually well-behaved, showing little interest in working against him.

It made Zhang Mu uneasy.

After some thought, he decided to nudge her along and speed up the progression of her schemes.

“The floor is cold. Come sleep on the bed,” Zhang Mu said casually.

“Ah?! Young Master, are you serious?!” Yu Xuanwei’s voice trembled with surprise and excitement.

“Who else would I be talking to? Is there someone else in the room? Or am I talking to ghosts?” Zhang Mu replied impatiently.

“Yes! Right away!”

Yu Xuanwei’s face flushed so red it seemed like blood might drip from her cheeks.

Her heart raced with excitement.

Ahhh!!!

Her dream was finally coming true!

She hadn’t achieved this in their previous life, but now, in this life, it was happening!

Her thoughts spiraled.

“What should I do? Is Young Master planning to do something with me tonight? How should I respond? I don’t have experience with this kind of thing…”

Covering her mouth to suppress a scream, Yu Xuanwei’s entire face turned crimson as she crawled into the bed, trembling with anticipation.
