The Villain from the Immortal Royal Clan Where Every Member Is a Cunning Schemer - Chapter 2:
Chapter 2: Coiling Dragon Jade Pendant
Watching Chen Ming repeatedly kowtow, Jiang Chen’s expression remained calm as he stared at him indifferently.
After a brief silence, Jiang Chen spoke coldly, “Fine. I’ll let you off this time. If there’s a next time, don’t blame me for being merciless.”
“Thank you for your mercy, Young Master. I guarantee there won’t be a next time,” Chen Ming replied.
As he finished speaking, Chen Ming lowered his head heavily. A trace of venom flashed through his eyes, and his expression twisted slightly.
However, when he raised his head again, his face had returned to one of fear and submission. Not a single abnormality could be seen. His control was impeccable.
Jiang Chen glanced at him once before striding toward the main hall. Soon, he arrived at the reception hall.
The moment he stepped inside, he sensed a heavy atmosphere.
Seated in the main position was not Patriarch Jiang Wenkang.
Instead, it was an unfamiliar elderly man.
Beside the old man sat a young woman in a purple robe. Her features were delicate, with an oval face, brows like ink paintings, and cherry-red lips that were impossible to ignore.
She was Yun Xixue, the eldest young lady of the Yun Family.
At this moment, Patriarch Jiang Wenkang was seated among the elders. Standing beside him was an eighteen- or nineteen-year-old youth.
The young man had sharp brows and bright eyes. His long black hair fell freely over his shoulders, and his face was exceptionally handsome.
The instant Jiang Chen saw him, he recognized him. This was Jiang Yu, son of Patriarch Jiang Wenkang, and the protagonist of today’s broken engagement.
However, this former genius of the Jiang Family now possessed cultivation lower than Jiang Chen’s. It was no wonder the other party had come to annul the engagement.
It had to be said, the Jiang Family truly excelled in appearance.
Judging from the situation, the two sides had already discussed matters thoroughly. Jiang Chen had arrived at just the right time.
“Chen’er, come over here!”
A voice called from the left, drawing Jiang Chen’s attention.
He looked over and saw a middle-aged man around forty. Though his face carried a trace of weariness, it did nothing to diminish his handsome features.
This man was Jiang Wenqing, Jiang Chen’s father in this life.
Jiang Chen withdrew his gaze and walked over.
“Father,” he greeted softly before sitting down beside him.
At that moment, Jiang Wenqing handed him an ornate brocade box.
“Father, what is this?” Jiang Chen asked.
“I prepared it specially for you. Put it away for now. Open it when we return,” Jiang Wenqing replied with a gentle smile, his eyes filled with doting affection.
After accepting the box, Jiang Chen took a quick glance inside. His eyes widened in surprise.
Inside lay a hundred-year-old Scarlet Blood Ganoderma.
This item was extremely valuable. Even with his father’s current status, purchasing such a century-old spiritual herb would have required paying a significant price.
Seeing the deep affection in Jiang Wenqing’s eyes, Jiang Chen felt a surge of warmth in his heart.
…
Not long after Jiang Chen sat down, Jiang Yu raised his head and looked toward Yun Xixue.
“I have no objection to breaking off the engagement,” Jiang Yu said slowly. “But the betrothal gifts the Jiang Family originally provided must be returned in full.”
As soon as he spoke, Yun Xixue smiled faintly.
“No problem.”
Clap, clap.
She gently clapped her hands.
Immediately, a group of servants entered the hall carrying several trays.
On the trays were numerous spiritual ornaments radiating energy. At a glance, they were clearly extraordinary items. It was obvious the Jiang Family had spared no expense back then.
Behind the ornaments stood a brilliant golden chest. When it was opened, it revealed a chest filled entirely with spirit stones.
The elders of the Jiang Family immediately brightened at the sight. Many of them showed heated expressions.
Seeing their reaction, the smile on Yun Xixue’s lips deepened, and a trace of disdain appeared in her eyes.
“Besides the betrothal gifts, this chest of spirit stones is compensation for the Jiang Family,” she added proudly.
However, Jiang Yu did not even look at the chest. Instead, he carefully searched through the returned ornaments.
After examining them, his brows furrowed.
“This isn’t correct,” Jiang Yu said in a low voice. “Where is my mother’s Coiling Dragon Jade Pendant?”
The moment he spoke, Yun Xixue’s smile stiffened. A flicker of unease passed through her eyes, but she quickly concealed it.
“I accidentally lost the jade pendant. It was just an ordinary piece of jade. These spirit stones more than compensate for it.”
At her words, Jiang Yu’s face darkened.
He stared at her coldly.
Under his gaze, Yun Xixue felt uneasy, but she quickly steadied herself. Her expression turned indifferent once more, arrogance written clearly across her face.
“It was just a broken jade pendant. Junior Sister Yun has compensated you with so many spirit stones. You should know when to be satisfied. Greed can get you killed.”
A voice suddenly rang out.
Jiang Chen looked toward the speaker and saw a black-robed young man around twenty years old.
The man gazed at Jiang Yu arrogantly. But when he turned toward Yun Xixue, his eyes were filled with admiration.
Jiang Yu immediately understood.
These two were clearly involved.
Faced with the black-robed man’s threat, Jiang Yu gave no response. His eyes remained locked on Yun Xixue.
Patriarch Jiang Wenkang’s expression turned unsightly.
…
On the other side, Jiang Wenqing saw that Jiang Yu remained silent, and a spark of calculation flashed in his eyes. He was about to rise and mock Jiang Yu, urging him to quickly bring out the engagement contract.
By doing so, he could both impeach Jiang Wenkang and seize these spirit stones to enhance his son’s strength.
However, just as Jiang Wenqing prepared to stand, he felt someone press down on his arm.
He paused and looked down.
It was Jiang Chen, subtly shaking his head.
The meaning was obvious. Do not speak.
Seeing the firm look in his son’s eyes, Jiang Wenqing did not understand why, but he slowly sat back down.
Since Jiang Wenqing remained silent, the other elders naturally kept quiet as well.
…
Seeing Jiang Yu remain silent, the black-robed man’s expression turned cold.
Just as he was about to speak again, Jiang Yu’s voice sounded.
“I can ignore everything else. But the Coiling Dragon Jade Pendant must be returned.”
His tone was resolute.
Yun Xixue’s eyes turned icy.
“I said it’s lost. What’s the point of continuing this?” she said coldly. “Offending the Yun Family will bring no benefit to the Jiang Family. The other two great families have already been watching closely.”
Her threat was clear.
If Jiang Yu persisted, the Yun Family would join forces with the other two great families to suppress the Jiang Family.
Seeing her confident expression, Jiang Yu’s eyes grew colder.
In truth, he did not mind the broken engagement itself. He had never cared much about the engagement to begin with.
But now she wanted to keep the jade pendant left by his mother. That act completely enraged him.
“Stop wasting time. Hand over the engagement contract,” the black-robed man urged again.
Suppressing his anger, Jiang Yu said once more, “I’ll ask one last time. Where is the Coiling Dragon Jade Pendant?”
Bang!
Yun Xixue slammed the table and stood up.
“Jiang Yu, if you continue to act shamelessly, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Her eyes brimmed with killing intent. She had already decided to kill him if necessary.
“Very well,” Jiang Yu replied calmly. “Then as you wish. Take the betrothal gifts back. No need to return them.”
Everyone looked confused.
Jiang Yu walked to the desk, picked up a brush, and boldly wrote a single large character: Divorce.
He then tossed the paper toward Yun Xixue.
“From this day forward, there will be no ties between us,” Jiang Yu declared coldly. “As for the Coiling Dragon Jade Pendant, I will personally take it back.”
He stood upright, staring directly at her.
…
Yun Xixue caught the paper and looked at the enormous character covering the entire page.
For a moment, she froze.
Then she realized what it meant.
Killing intent erupted from her body. Her figure trembled slightly.
“You dare divorce me?” she said coldly.
Crack, crack.
Her black hair whipped wildly as her aura surged upward. Frost crystals began forming in the air. The temperature inside the hall dropped sharply, and tension filled the room.
…
An uproar broke out within the hall.
…
On the other side, as the events unfolded, Jiang Chen became more certain of his earlier suspicion.
His elder brother was definitely no ordinary person.
However, this unique divorce letter made Jiang Chen struggle to hold back his laughter.
