Chapter 2:

“Ha!? Su Wan’er!”

Su Ruhai’s eyes widened as he instantly understood everything. His granddaughter had been a beauty since childhood, and many families had approached the Su Family with marriage proposals, claiming their young masters had fallen for her. Some of these families were far stronger than the Su Family. But the Su Family was never the type to sacrifice its juniors for the sake of family interests.

Especially after Su Wan’er revealed her extraordinary cultivation talent, the Su Family endured the immense pressure from outside again and again, refusing all proposals and fully supporting her cultivation. They also repeatedly taught her that even as a girl, she must strive to grow strong, rather than relying solely on men.

Su Wan’er never disappointed the Su Family. Through her own hard work, she became a disciple of the Primordial Holy Land. After entering the Holy Land, she awakened an unrivaled spiritual root with boundless potential. Her achievements were inseparable from the support and broad-mindedness of the Su Family.

Su Ruhai had long expected that Su Wan’er’s beauty would attract trouble one day. He had thought that with her identity as a disciple of the Primordial Holy Land, even if stronger forces came, there was no need to worry. But he never expected today’s visitor would be Gu Yun.

The Gu Family’s name was as thunderous as it could be throughout the Great Wilderness World. Even the Primordial Holy Land would have to show them respect. If Gu Yun used his status to oppress them and forcibly demanded to marry Su Wan’er, no one could stop him. Su Ruhai’s feelings instantly grew complicated—half worried, half relieved. If Su Wan’er liked Gu Yun, then everything would be fine. But if she didn’t, did the Su Family even have the qualifications to refuse Gu Yun?

He gave a bitter smile, shifted his gaze from the Transformation Pill to Gu Yun, and asked, “You mean, you’ve taken a liking to Wan’er, haven’t you?”

Gu Yun smiled calmly and said bluntly, “That’s right. Wan’er is as beautiful as a celestial maiden, gentle and kind. From the first moment I saw her, I was deeply attracted.”

Su Ruhai had already expected this and asked again, “So, have you come to propose marriage this time?”

Gu Yun froze.

In truth, he only wanted to trigger the system.

He never planned to fight the protagonist over a woman—everyone knew that was a high-risk move.

Besides, beauties were everywhere, not only Su Wan’er. If she didn’t like him, why bother forcing it? He quickly replied, “No, Elder. You misunderstand. Matters of affection should be taken slowly. I’ve only just met Wan’er, and it’s far too soon to speak of marriage. This visit is purely to pay respects, to see if I can do something for Wan’er.”

This answer surprised Su Ruhai.

The heirs of many cultivation families, even those not as powerful as the Gu Family, were usually domineering by nature.

In the cultivation world, strength was respected, and the strong had the right to act as they pleased. If others had fancied Su Wan’er, they would have already coerced or threatened the Su Family, leaving them no way out. But this young man, courteous and refined—was this the true bearing of a great family?

Whether Su Ruhai or the others in the Su Family, their impression of Gu Yun immediately soared. Some even began to secretly think of matching the two together.

After all, Gu Yun was handsome, powerful, of high status, and still so polite. What could possibly be wrong with him?

Su Ruhai laughed heartily and said, “Wan’er is truly blessed to meet someone like Young Master Gu. Rest assured, when Wan’er returns, I will personally ask her thoughts. If she has no objections, then the engagement can be settled, and the two of you can slowly grow closer afterward.” As he spoke, his hand quietly reached toward the bottle of Transformation Pills.

Gu Yun chuckled lightly and said, “There’s no need for that. It seems Wan’er doesn’t like me. She just rejected my confession today.”

The room fell into utter silence.

The relaxed atmosphere instantly turned oppressive.

Everyone’s hearts tightened as they looked at Gu Yun. Su Ruhai’s eyes widened as he quietly retracted his outstretched hand.

Just when all thought Gu Yun would erupt in anger, he instead smiled and said, “That’s only natural. After all, we only just met. Please don’t feel pressured. I truly only came to visit. Even if Su Wan’er doesn’t like me, I am still willing to help the Su Family.”

Everyone in the Su Family finally breathed a sigh of relief, smiles returning to their faces.

Su Ruhai suddenly slapped the table and stood up, speaking with agitation, “Hmph! For Wan’er to say she doesn’t like you—she truly doesn’t know what’s good for her! Young Master Gu, don’t worry. When she returns, I will personally discipline this unfilial girl!”

Half of these words were an act, but half were sincere. After all, with Gu Yun’s noble identity, to be able to treat both Su Wan’er and the Su Family in this way, and for her to still reject him—wasn’t that ungrateful?

Gu Yun gave an awkward smile and quickly said, “Please, don’t tell Wan’er about my visit. I don’t want her to feel pressured.”

He was cautious too.

If this turned into the Su Family forcing Su Wan’er to marry him, wouldn’t it just become the classic scene in the novel?

And of course, the protagonist would arrive to save the day. The Gu Family might be powerful and full of experts, but protagonists always had strange encounters. What if he pulled out some Emperor-level artifact from his waistband?

Then how could anyone handle it?

Better to avoid that altogether.

Gu Yun made up his mind—just reap the benefits, no feelings involved.

The Su Family, however, was deeply moved.

What? He went to such lengths, yet didn’t even want Su Wan’er to know?

Was this what the current young masters of great families were like—so dedicated in love?

Su Ruhai pretended to sigh helplessly as he sat back down, conveniently picking up the pill bottle, and said with a bitter smile, “Wan’er, what virtue or ability does she have to deserve such devotion from Young Master Gu? I don’t even know what to say. Then… then I’ll just hold onto this pill for now?”

Gu Yun laughed freely and said, “Take it, take it. It’s meant for you, Elder.”

The two looked at each other and both burst into hearty laughter. At that moment, a crisp sound rang in Gu Yun’s mind.

[Ding! System reward triggered. Congratulations to the host for obtaining the Saint-level Supreme Technique ‘Heaven-Opening Sword Manual’!]

As the system’s voice faded, Gu Yun’s laughter grew louder.

A Saint-level supreme technique?

That was worth far more than the Heaven-tier pill he had given away.

In the Great Wilderness World, techniques, pills, weapons, and other resources were divided into Mortal, Yellow, Profound, Earth, Heaven, Spirit, Saint, and Emperor ranks. Each rank was further split into inferior, middle, superior, and supreme. The higher the rank, the more powerful the effect.

Born into an ancient aristocratic family, Gu Yun naturally had plenty of resources. He even possessed some Saint-level techniques.

But such things could never be too many.

Who would dislike having more?

Today’s gift had triggered a reward, a deal of immense profit.

But why did this ‘Heaven-Opening Sword Manual’ sound so familiar?

Gu Yun pondered for a moment before suddenly realizing.

In the original novel, the Su Family’s ancestral sword technique was said to be an Earth-rank technique. But in truth, it was the fragment of a Saint-level technique. Later, when Ye Bufan arrived at the Su Family, he earned the recognition of the elders and obtained this technique. With the help of his cheat—the remnant soul master in his ring—he upgraded it slightly, but it only became a Saint-level inferior technique.

That meant what Gu Yun had just obtained was none other than the Su Family’s ancestral sword art, and a complete version at that.

This made him very satisfied and further fueled his enthusiasm for giving gifts. He immediately said, “Elder, tell me what else the Su Family lacks or needs. I’ll provide it all! As I said before, anything I give to the Su Family is out of my own will. You must never tell Wan’er!”
