Chapter 25: This Plot… Feels So Dumb:

“Next, I’ll use the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles, and your illness will be cured, sir,” Ye Fan declared confidently, holding up his silver needles after the meal, all eyes on him.

Originally, he’d planned to showcase this technique next week at a bigger event, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up. His words drew a collective gasp from everyone.

“Oh my gosh! The Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles from the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon!”

“I’ve heard it was lost ages ago. They say it can even bring people back from the dead.”

“I never thought I’d witness this legendary acupuncture technique in my lifetime. Now I can die happy!”

“Stop right there!” A shout broke the tension, and Yang Lu smirked.

“Master Yunfei!” The Zhang family members turned and saw Zhang Yunfei striding in, a doctor in a white coat and carrying a medical kit by his side. Zhang Yunfei walked up to his grandfather, pointing at Ye Fan.

“Who are you? Do you have a medical license?” he demanded.

“No, I don’t.”

“Ha! The nerve! Grandpa, you can’t let this quack anywhere near you!” Zhang Yunfei huffed. The others murmured, sharing the same doubt. If Ye Fan was as skilled as he claimed, why didn’t he have a medical license?

“Grandpa, this is Dr. David, last year’s Nobel Prize winner in medicine. He’ll treat you. I went to great lengths to bring him here,” Zhang Yunfei explained.

Dr. David stepped forward, smiling confidently. “Mr. Zhang, I’ve treated cases like yours before. Rest assured, you’re in capable hands.”

Yang Lu felt a twinge of secondhand embarrassment.

Zhang Feng hesitated, looking from his grandson to Ye Fan. Dr. David’s reputation was huge, but he had already given Ye Fan permission to treat him. As everyone’s eyes fell on Ye Fan, he smiled slyly and leaned back in his chair.

“Go ahead and treat him, but you’ll only make things worse.” Ye Fan said calmly.

“Are you insane?” Dr. David snapped, his irritation flaring. He wasn’t about to let some unlicensed amateur talk down to him.

“Let’s make a bet,” Ye Fan challenged. “If you fail and I succeed, you’ll kneel before me and call me ‘Dad’ every time you see me. How about that?”

“Fine! Sounds like I’ll be gaining a new son soon!” Dr. David snapped back, confident he could cure Zhang Feng’s illness.

Yang Lu shook his head, a hint of pity in his eyes. This poor guy is doomed to be humiliated.

Dr. David opened his kit and began treating Zhang Feng. Yang Lu yawned, thinking, “He’ll show some initial improvement, then his condition will deteriorate. As Dr. David worked, praise began filling the room.”

“Amazing!”

“A true Nobel laureate!”

“Dr. David, you’re incredible!”

A few minutes later, Zhang Feng appeared slightly more alert. Dr. David looked proud, almost smug. He had every right to be; after all, he was a Nobel Prize winner. What could a quack like Ye Fan know?

Yang Lu looked on, mentally noting, The more proud he is now, the worse it’ll be later.

“Grandpa, what happened?”

“Oh no!”

“Somebody help!”

In the next moment, Zhang Feng slumped over, his face turning pale. Zhang Xuehua rushed to his side, calling his name in panic. Dr. David stared, stunned, as his patient’s condition rapidly worsened.

“What… what’s happening?” Dr. David stammered, attempting CPR and various emergency measures. But nothing worked. Ye Fan’s voice broke through the panic.

“Zhang Feng has kidney deficiency, which you just worsened with a cooling medication. I warned you this would happen.” Ye Fan said, standing up with a smirk.

The family turned toward Ye Fan, seeing him in a new light. Dr. David, still shocked, couldn’t refute it. He realized, however reluctantly, that Ye Fan had been right.

Everyone now looked to Ye Fan, their last hope. Zhang Xuehua, tears streaming down her face, turned to him and pleaded, “Brother Ye Fan, please! Save my grandfather!”
