Chapter 4: The Beautiful CEO’s Test

After escaping from Imperial KTV and settling back into the driver’s seat of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lin Fan finally felt as though he had truly come back to life. He closed the windows, shutting out the noise and danger of the outside world, then released a long, trembling breath.

His heart was still pounding wildly inside his chest. His back felt cold where his sweat-soaked shirt clung to his skin.

Lin Fan raised a hand and touched his face, then moved his arms and legs.

Everything was intact!

There was none of the agonizing pain he had expected, no sickening crack of broken bones, and certainly no humiliating scene of him lying amid shattered glass while everyone watched.

“I survived… I really fucking survived!”

Lin Fan could not stop himself from grinning, though his smile was still weak with lingering fear. He started the car, and with the System-granted “Beginner Driving Proficiency,” every movement came naturally. The Mercedes-Benz smoothly merged into the traffic.

Feeling the quiet, luxurious ride of the car after the terrifying experience inside the KTV was like returning to heaven after taking a trip through hell.

[Damn System, looks like you’re not completely determined to send me to my death! The process was terrifying, but at least the result turned out well!]

As Lin Fan gradually relaxed, he finally had the presence of mind to communicate with the System.

[This “Beginner Driving Proficiency” is pretty good too. It’s worlds apart from that battered electric bike I used to ride.]

[The host has successfully completed the initial mission, proving that you possess the basic potential required to survive in this world.]

The System remained as emotionless as ever.

[Please continue maintaining this performance and actively confront subsequent challenges.]

[Subsequent challenges?]

Lin Fan’s improved mood instantly took a hit.

[Was that not challenging enough? I almost died back there!]

As though responding to his “anticipation,” another System notification immediately sounded.

[Ding! New mission issued based on the progression of the daily plot and Su Wan’s plotline.]

[Mission: Before 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, proceed to the Su Group and present Su Wan with a bouquet consisting of 99 “Juliet Roses,” accompanied by the following message: “No matter how beautiful these roses are, they cannot compare to even one ten-thousandth of your beauty. May you bloom like these roses. As for the thorns… I don’t mind. This Young Master happens to enjoy a challenge.”]

[Mission Reward: Skill “Basic Combat Arts, Beginner.” Plot Points +3.]

[Mission Failure: Deduct 5 Plot Points.]

Lin Fan froze.

He quickly searched through the original Lin Fan’s memories for information about “Juliet Roses.”

What he discovered nearly gave him a heart attack.

[How… how much?! Several thousand yuan for a single rose?! And you want 99 of them?! Wouldn’t one damn bouquet cost several hundred thousand yuan?!]

Lin Fan felt his heart bleeding.

Although the money was not coming from the savings he had painstakingly accumulated in his previous life, his instincts as a former delivery rider still made such outrageous extravagance physically painful.

[System, what the hell are you doing? The original Lin Fan might have been a hopeless simp, but even he didn’t casually give away flowers this expensive! Aren’t you spending way too much on this mission?!]

[Pursuing a target requires a demonstration of sincerity and financial capability. Juliet Roses are known as “the aristocrats of roses,” making them appropriate for the host’s current status and the requirements of this mission.]

The System’s explanation remained cold and mechanical.

[Sincerity my ass! That message afterward is the real point, isn’t it? “I don’t mind the thorns. This Young Master happens to enjoy a challenge”?]

Lin Fan immediately identified the real problem.

[Isn’t that blatantly provoking her? It sounds like I’m complimenting her, but I’m actually calling her prickly and difficult! Su Wan is smart. You think she won’t understand what I mean? How is that any different from pointing at her face and saying, “I just love how arrogant and difficult you are”? I’m spending several hundred thousand yuan on flowers just so I can get scolded afterward! I’d be less of a sucker if I sent her white chrysanthemums!]

[The accompanying message is intended to demonstrate the host’s domineering and uninhibited personality, consistent with your established Villain role. Please execute the mission exactly as instructed.]

Lin Fan slumped back into the driver’s seat.

He had barely escaped the tiger’s jaws, only for an entirely new world of suffering to open before him.

As expected, the path of a Villain was filled with pits at every step, while the System stood beside each one shouting, ‘Come on! Jump! And make it look good!’

Meanwhile, Su Wan had already returned to her luxurious penthouse apartment in the city center.

She did not turn on the lights. Instead, she walked directly toward the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows.

Outside stretched the dazzling city nightscape, with countless lights scattered across the darkness like fallen stars. Yet Su Wan had no interest in admiring the view.

Everything that had happened tonight repeatedly replayed inside her mind like scenes from a movie.

Lin Fan’s seemingly brainless harassment.

The terrifyingly clear “inner thoughts” that followed.

Ye Chen’s unnervingly punctual entrance.

And then her own almost instinctive decision to drive Lin Fan away.

Su Wan removed her high heels and stepped barefoot onto the cold floor, hoping the chill would help clear her thoughts.

“An hallucination? A coincidence?” Su Wan murmured, her delicate brows tightly furrowed.

Logic told her that no one could possibly hear another person’s thoughts. There certainly could not be some mysterious “script” capable of predicting the future.

Yet that “voice” had accurately predicted how Ye Chen would appear.

Worse still, her own command for Lin Fan to leave had coincided with Ye Chen’s entrance in an eerily precise manner.

Each detail was like a sharp needle stabbing into everything she had always believed about reality.

Most disturbing of all were those inner thoughts concerning a “harem” and her family business becoming someone else’s “dowry.” Those claims filled her with an instinctive disgust and powerful resistance.

Since when did Su Wan’s life need to be defined or arranged by someone else?

She walked over to the liquor cabinet and poured herself a small glass of whiskey. The amber liquid gently swirled inside the glass.

She did not drink it.

Instead, using the faint light filtering in from outside, she stared at her reflection within the glass.

“Lin Fan…”

She quietly spoke his name.

When had that useless, spoiled playboy become so strange?

What exactly were those inner thoughts?

Was this some ability beyond her understanding?

Or was everything that happened tonight merely part of an even more elaborate scheme designed specifically against her?

Whatever the truth might be, she absolutely could not sit back and do nothing.

Su Wan’s gaze gradually sharpened, returning to the cold composure she displayed whenever facing a troublesome opponent in the business world.

She needed more information before she could verify anything or reach a conclusion.

And right now, her only source of information, unstable as it might be, was Lin Fan.

She picked up her phone and called her secretary.

“Secretary Li, rearrange my schedule for tomorrow morning. Clear everything after 10:00 a.m.”

She paused briefly before adding, “Also, if Lin Fan comes to the company tomorrow… regardless of his reason, bring him directly to my office.”

She wanted to see exactly what performance this suddenly “different” fiancé of hers would put on next.

Perhaps she could discover some clues through his behavior and those mysterious “inner thoughts,” assuming she could hear them again.

Lin Fan knew absolutely nothing about this.

He continued driving with a miserable expression, his thoughts completely occupied by the bouquet of roses worth several hundred thousand yuan and the suicidal message he was supposed to deliver with them tomorrow.

[Several hundred thousand yuan! How many years would I have needed to deliver food to earn that much? And now I’m supposed to spend all of it just to provoke someone and get scolded?!]

His heart ached just thinking about it.

[But if I don’t send them, I lose 5 Plot Points! I only have 14 in total. I can’t afford to lose that many!]

Lin Fan tried bargaining with the System.

[Brother System, I’ll deliver the flowers, okay? But can we change the message? How about something like, “You’re the only one in my heart”? It’s cheesy as hell, but at least it’s safe!]

[Mission requirements are explicit and cannot be altered. Host, please execute the mission exactly as instructed.]

The System mercilessly rejected him.

Lin Fan sank into despair.

He could already picture tomorrow’s scene at the Su Group. He would stand there holding an outrageously expensive bouquet, deliver a line practically begging to get him punched, and then Su Wan would coldly have both him and the flowers thrown out.

[Forget it. If you want to catch a wolf, you have to risk the bait. And if I don’t risk these Plot Points, I’ll get erased! Screw it!]

Lin Fan resigned himself to his fate.

[At least the reward includes “Basic Combat Arts.” If Su Wan gets angry enough to hit me with the flowers, maybe I’ll be able to dodge them.]

With the tragic resolve of a warrior marching toward a battle from which he might never return, Lin Fan drove back to the luxurious yet empty villa.

That night, he slept terribly.

His dreams were filled with dazzling roses worth their weight in gold and Su Wan’s icy eyes, which seemed capable of freezing the very air around him.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Su Wan remained standing before her window until the first pale light of early dawn appeared on the horizon.

Only then, carrying a mind full of doubts and a carefully formed plan to observe Lin Fan, did she finally close her eyes for a little rest.
