Chapter 7: Child of Destiny? What a Joke!

“D-Don’t come any closer…”

As Shen Lian approached with killing intent written all over his face, Ye Fan trembled uncontrollably, inching backward in fear.

Within the Law Enforcement Hall reeking of blood, every heavy, measured footstep felt like a death knell to Ye Fan’s ears. Panic spread like a plague through his mind and body.

“Shen Lian, you can’t kill me. If you do, the seven Senior Sisters will never forgive you!”

At a moment like this, Ye Fan started invoking the names of those seven ungrateful traitors, hoping it would make Shen Lian hesitate.

But it was useless. Shen Lian was no longer the same man whose soul had been hijacked by some pitiful, self-deprecating fool who used to fawn over those who wanted him dead.

“Hmph…”

With a cold snort, Shen Lian stood before Ye Fan.

Ye Fan looked into his eyes and found no trace of the cowardice or submission he once remembered—only endless mockery and scorn.

A so-called Child of Destiny was supposed to be someone chosen by heaven, favored by the world, their luck and fortune overwhelming others by a thousandfold. They were meant to be protagonists of their own world, and those who challenged them would always be crushed underfoot by fate’s backlash.

But Shen Lian… was an exception.

He had transmigrated into a cultivation world, yet his starting point wasn’t even worthy of being called a side character—he was cannon fodder, an ant too insignificant to even qualify as a stepping stone for a protagonist.

Whenever he clashed with a Child of Destiny, he wouldn’t survive even half a chapter—his death often brushed aside by the author with barely a line.

And yet, Shen Lian miraculously clawed his way from background nobody to standing at the peak.

His only weapons? A will stronger than steel… and piercing insight sharper than any blade.

Across ninety-nine lifetimes, he had slain no fewer than eight hundred so-called Children of Destiny.

Eventually, Shen Lian found even less joy in killing them. He’d sometimes even raise them to their peak himself—only to crush them during their crowning moment, stripping them of everything and turning their divine souls into human pills via the Human Emperor Cauldron.

His strength had grown so terrifying that even gods and demons steered clear. His unruly, arrogant nature, his ascension through martial might with a mortal body, and his disdain for convention had earned him the title of “Human Emperor” in dozens of lifetimes.

But more often than not… they called him “Human Maniac.”

A name he wore proudly—because to be mad in the eyes of the weak was to be invincible in truth.

Shen Lian lowered himself to stare closely at Ye Fan’s delicate and feminine face.

“So this is the so-called genius the entire sect wasted all its resources on… What a sight.”

Ye Fan dared not even breathe as Shen Lian loomed inches away. The overwhelming pressure was something he had never experienced before in his life.

After about ten breaths of silence, Shen Lian shook his head. “So this is the great Child of Destiny—weak, pitiful, worthless.

It seems everyone in Heavenly Feather Sect went blind if they chose you as their future star.

You should take a look in the mirror. If I were you, I’d kill myself right now just to preserve the tiniest sliver of dignity left.”

Without waiting for a reply, he stabbed his blood-stained sword into the floor—just an inch away from Ye Fan’s crotch.

Ye Fan broke out in a cold sweat. If the sword had skewed just a little, his lineage would have ended here.

“Go on. Use this mid-grade spiritual sword to prove you’re not a waste. Show me that for the pride of a so-called Chosen One, you’d rather die than surrender.”

Shen Lian stepped back half a pace and closed his eyes, as though calmly waiting for Ye Fan to pick up the sword and end it all.

“No—Senior Brother Shen… do you really not care about the seven Senior Sisters anymore? They… they…”

But the moment he met Shen Lian’s mocking, disdainful gaze, Ye Fan couldn’t finish a single word.

“Go on, speak. Why’d you stop?”

Shen Lian slowly unfolded his folding fan.

“Is it because you were going to say, if I so much as lay a finger on you, those seven ungrateful wolves would turn on me without hesitation?”

“Or were you going to say that if they knew you were in danger, they’d stop at nothing to eliminate me to earn your favor?”

“Hahahaha… Child of Destiny? What a joke. In the end, you’re just a pathetic man who relies on women to survive.

Your life is as incomplete as your spine—pitiful and disgraceful.”

“You thought I still cared about those seven traitorous snakes? You thought just mentioning their names would shake me?”

“If that’s what you think… then let me tell you a harsh reality.”

Shen Lian turned his back, glancing sideways.

“Your little calculations mean nothing now. The humiliation you and they piled onto me… I’ll return it a hundredfold.”

“If I could raise them to the heavens, I can damn well send them straight to hell.

Those who betray the one who truly gave them everything will forever rot in the mud, groveling like ants until their end comes in silence and disgrace.”

“So tell me, oh so noble Child of Destiny—when your only weapon no longer works against me… what’s left to stop a dragon that’s already soaring?”

Ye Fan’s mind went blank. He couldn’t believe it—Shen Lian truly didn’t care about the seven Senior Sisters anymore.

How could this be? Just yesterday, he had been their simpering dog, stripped of dignity… and now he stood tall?

No… if that were true, then how was he, Ye Fan, supposed to climb to the top? How would he become the one worshipped by millions?

And then… it stirred.

A surge of twisted, desperate resentment burned through him. Perhaps it was the very fortune of the heavens guiding him—but his fear turned into hatred.

He looked at Shen Lian’s arrogant back, then at the bloodied spiritual sword embedded in the floor.

“I have to kill him. He can’t live. He must die!”

Roaring internally, Ye Fan sprang up, ignoring his injuries. He grasped the sword tightly, his face contorted with fury.

“Shen Lian, die!”

He roared and attempted to draw the sword, lunging to stab Shen Lian in the back.

He had calculated everything—the distance, the timing. If he succeeded, Shen Lian would surely die.

But what happened next… was humiliating.

The sword wouldn’t budge.

“What… how?! Why can’t I pull it out?!”

Ye Fan stared in disbelief. The sword seemed fused with the earth itself, unmoving no matter how hard he struggled.

“Hahahaha!”

Shen Lian couldn’t help but burst out laughing at Ye Fan’s clownish display behind him.

He raised one finger behind his back and wagged it gently.

“A Child of Destiny who can’t even lift a sword from the ground? Your level of uselessness is… truly refreshing.”

Then suddenly, Shen Lian spun around and slammed a palm straight into Ye Fan’s chest.

“Pu—”

Boom—

Blood sprayed out of Ye Fan’s mouth. He was slammed into the granite wall behind him like a nail, embedded halfway through.

That one strike shattered his protective force and cracked three of his ribs.

“Trash. Die!”

Shen Lian raised his palm again, increasing his force. A powerful gust spiraled into his palm, ready to finish the job.

“Stop, you traitor!”

Just then, a thunderous voice exploded from outside the Law Enforcement Hall.

It was immediately followed by a blinding silver palm force charging toward Shen Lian’s back.

“Hm?”

Shen Lian narrowed his eyes, unsurprised. He instantly pulled back his palm, grabbed the dazed Ye Fan by the collar, and spun around—using him as a human shield.
