Chapter 106: Just Out of the Dragon Pool, and Into the Tiger’s Den?:

Ye Chen turned his head and looked at the ten volunteers who had just removed their masks. It was like he had seen a ghost—he froze in place.

Xiao Mingyue and the others finally let out a sigh of relief. The results were clear: Danchen Mask had been completely outclassed by the Langyao Mask.

Chen Lang exhaled quietly and gave an approving thumbs-up in his heart.

“System girl,” he thought, “say what you will, but the quality of your rewards? First class.”

Everyone in the hall was utterly stunned by the performance of the Langyao Mask. On stage, the five women who had used Ye Chen’s product did show mild improvement. Redness had faded slightly, their skin looked more hydrated. If judged on its own, the Danchen Mask was impressive.

But compared to Langyao?

It didn’t even come close.

The five who used the Langyao Mask looked like they’d undergone professional photo retouching. Their skin was smooth and glowing like hard-boiled eggs, and flaws like freckles or acne had visibly faded. Fine lines had softened too—they looked years younger.

If Danchen was good skincare, Langyao was pure sorcery.

It was like the mask applied Photoshop in real life.

And that was exactly what made the audience go wild. Rich women especially—what did they want more than anything?

Youth.

A beautiful, ageless face.

Many had already decided, right there and then: no matter how expensive it was, they’d be buying Langyao Mask by the box. Three times a day if necessary. Whatever it took to turn back time.

As for Danchen?

Thanks, but no thanks.

Some who had just begun to praise Ye Chen’s product now completely abandoned it, turning their attention fully to the Langyao brand.

On stage, Jiang Mengyao remained calm, as though she’d expected this outcome.

“Ye Chen,” she said coolly, “do you still have anything to say? Is this all your so-called great mask can do?”

Ye Chen’s face was dark. He was clearly unwilling to accept defeat.

But suddenly, he seemed to think of something.

“It’s not the mask’s fault!” he argued. “It’s the testers! The five who used your mask had better skin to begin with. That’s not a fair comparison!”

The five women who had just used Danchen turned their heads in unison, all rolling their eyes.

Seriously?

Blaming them now?

They wanted to smack him. So what if their skin wasn’t bad? They still had imperfections, and even so, the effect of Langyao Mask had crushed Ye Chen’s.

The audience didn’t buy Ye Chen’s excuse either.

“Still making excuses even after losing so badly?”

“Then don’t challenge others if you can’t accept the result!”

Jiang Mengyao chuckled. “Fine. If you think that’s unfair, let’s do another round.”

She turned to the audience. “This time, five people will apply half of their face with the Danchen Mask and the other half with Langyao. That should settle it.”

Ye Chen wanted to refuse, but couldn’t find a valid reason. And deep down, he knew he couldn’t back down now.

So he agreed.

Five new participants came on stage. Each mask was cut in half—Danchen on one side, Langyao on the other.

Ye Chen stood nervously by, hands clenched, eyes full of desperate hope.

When the masks were removed, the results were even clearer.

Everyone gasped.

On each volunteer’s face, a sharp contrast was visible. The side treated with Langyao was visibly smoother, more radiant, younger. The Danchen side looked dull in comparison.

There was even a visible line down the middle of their faces, like a before-and-after image come to life.

No words were needed.

The room was buzzing. The Langyao Mask was destined to become a sensation. People were already thinking ahead—how many boxes to stock up on before the price went up, how to become a regional distributor, how to cooperate with the Jiang family for reselling rights.

Ye Chen, meanwhile, stood on stage with a dark expression.

How?!

Where had the Jiang family gotten such a miraculous formula?

He thought Danchen Mask was unbeatable—but Langyao had crushed it effortlessly.

His confidence shattered.

Jiang Mengyao raised an eyebrow. “Security, throw him out.”

Ye Chen quickly raised his hand. “No need. I’ll leave on my own.”

He turned to her and forced a smile. “But don’t get too cocky. I’ll be someone important soon. The business world is long—don’t write me off just yet!”

Jiang Mengyao scoffed.

Ye Chen turned and walked off stage with stiff pride.

After he left, Jiang Mengyao returned to the mic. “Well, everyone has seen the results for themselves. This is the power of Langyao Mask.”

Someone in the audience started clapping, and soon, the whole room erupted into applause.

“This is amazing!”

“Where did they get such a formula?!”

As if answering their thoughts, Jiang Mengyao raised her voice again.

“I know many of you are wondering where our formula came from,” she said with a confident smile. “I won’t keep it secret. The recipe for Langyao Mask was provided by our company’s major shareholder—Chen Lang.”

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

“And the name?” she continued, smiling even more sweetly. “It’s a combination of our names. Lang from Chen Lang, and Yao from Jiang Mengyao—Langyao.”

The entire room fell silent.

People stared at Chen Lang. Some raised their brows. Others exchanged glances.

A name like that…

Surely there had to be more to it than just a coincidence?

But what came next truly stunned them—

Jiang Mengyao looked directly at the crowd and said, “The reason I announced this mask today is because I wanted to mark something special.”

“In honor of the milestone between me and Mr. Chen Lang, I have an important announcement to make today! The mask is just a small part of it—there’s something even bigger!”

The audience was stunned.

A milestone? A bigger event? After that thrilling live mask competition, was there still more to come?

Jiang Mengyao gracefully took a small box from her assistant’s hands. Clad in a sleek black dress and walking with quiet confidence, she made her way straight toward Chen Lang, who was seated below the stage.

Chen Lang, mid-snack with melon seeds, suddenly froze.

The elegance in her step, the heat in her eyes, the subtle curve of her lips—everything about Jiang Mengyao at that moment screamed ambush.

A bad feeling hit him like a train.

Before he could react, Jiang Mengyao stood in front of him and clicked open the box.

Inside, a dazzling diamond ring shimmered under the chandelier lights.

“Chen Lang, marry me.”

BOOM!

The entire hall erupted.

A woman proposing?

Not just any woman—but the fearsome Queen of Nanjiang, openly chasing the national heartthrob, Young Master Chen?

Phones were whipped out. Cameras clicked. Videos rolled.

All eyes were now locked onto this scene.

Across the hall, Xiao Mingyue, Cheng Jinjin, Chen Shihan, and even Bai Luobing sat stunned, jaws slack in disbelief.

What kind of surprise attack was this?!

Chen Lang was frozen, still in his snack-eating pose. The melon seeds had slipped from his hand. His mind felt like an overheated CPU. He had no idea what to do next.

He was a statue, petrified under a spotlight.

And then, a sharp voice cut through the tension.

“I object to this marriage!”

The crowd turned.

It was Bai Luobing.

Jiang Mengyao narrowed her eyes. “What gives you the right to object?”

Bai Luobing blinked. Clearly, she hadn’t thought that far.

“Uh… I was just playing around. Don’t mind me, go ahead, continue…”

Everyone: “…”

But the moment had been broken.

Chen Lang took the opportunity to regain his composure. He stood up, coughed into his fist, and forced his brain to restart.

What is even happening right now?!

I just finalized my divorce with Xiao Mingyue—and now Mengyao is proposing in front of everyone?!

This feels like escaping a dragon’s lair only to fall straight into a tiger’s den!

He had just worked so hard to reset the plot, to pull himself out of the emotional entanglements—and now Jiang Mengyao was dragging him right back in!

There was no way he could agree to this. But rejecting her on the spot, in public, would be a serious blow to her pride.

Around him, all eyes darted between him and Jiang Mengyao.

He had to find a way out—something tactful.

But Jiang Mengyao wasn’t letting up. She leaned in a little, her voice softer, sultrier.

“Chen Lang, let’s get married. I’ll earn the money. You just stay home and look pretty. Let me take care of you.”

She held the diamond ring out in front of him, her gaze hot and unwavering.

Chen Lang looked down, avoiding eye contact. His thoughts were a whirlwind.

Think, think… How do I escape this without dying socially?

If I run, will they think I’m scared?

Is it too late to fake fainting?

…Or maybe pee and flee?!

The pit was deep. But one thing was certain: he couldn’t fall in again.
