Villain Marrying The Heroine Is Perfectly Plausible, Right? - Chapter 116:
Chapter 116: Watching a Movie with Chen Shihan
Chen Lang realized something strange.
Ever since the Jiang family launched their facial mask product, his days had suddenly become unbelievably busy—absurdly so. Strangely enough, he wasn’t even part of the main plot, yet he was constantly occupied, barely touching the ground each day.
In the mornings, Jiang Mengyao would summon him to the company to sit in on meetings. He never needed to say anything, just sit quietly beside her and act as eye candy. During the meetings, Jiang Mengyao would occasionally share the latest sales reports on the masks with him. The two seemed to have developed an unspoken understanding. Neither of them brought up the marriage proposal incident or her sudden fainting. It was as if none of it had ever happened.
In the afternoons, he was often dragged away by Xiao Mingyue under the excuse of discussing business partnerships. They would end up in a café, not talking about business at all. After coffee, she’d pull him along again—this time under the pretext of “market research”—to go shopping with her.
Xiao Mingyue had even arranged a comfortable sofa in her company office just for him. While she worked, he could lie back, watch movies, or play games to pass the time. Their interactions had completely transformed. There was no longer any tension or awkwardness, just the easy comfort of two long-time friends. Everything felt natural and relaxed now.
And without question, his nights belonged to Chen Shihan.
They would either ride bicycles together through the quiet streets of the city or stay home watching movies, experimenting with odd recipes, or engaging in some light jiu-jitsu training to maintain fitness.
Occasionally, Bai Luobing would message him and invite him out. Chen Lang always declined politely. But somehow, she always managed to “coincidentally” show up wherever he was—almost as if someone were tracking him.
After a few days of this, Chen Lang started to feel confused.
“I’m the villain, right? Then why am I busier than the protagonist?”
And come to think of it, he hadn’t seen Ye Chen for several days now. Who knew what that idiot was up to? But it wasn’t his problem. He didn’t even have a proper plotline to follow right now, so why waste time worrying about Ye Chen?
What Chen Lang didn’t realize was that his packed schedule was being watched closely—especially by Chen Shihan.
Ever since Ye Chen had been captured, even the once-lively “Goddess Alliance” group chat had quieted down, more so than it had in previous days. It was obvious that the other women were too busy competing for Chen Lang’s attention, each trying to steal moments with him, showing off their strengths like the Eight Immortals crossing the sea.
Chen Shihan, observing all of this, decided it was time to strike back and steal some time for herself.
That night, just like many before, Chen Lang and Chen Shihan were sitting side by side on the villa’s sofa, watching a movie. The room was dim, with the only light coming from the projector. A romantic film played on the screen.
Chen Shihan munched on potato chips while Chen Lang held a glass of red wine. Both were fully absorbed in the movie.
The plot finally reached its emotional climax—the male and female leads resolved their misunderstandings, let go of past grudges, and in a picturesque setting, shared a passionate kiss.
Soft, moving music played in the background as their kiss continued for over a minute.
Chen Shihan forgot her chips. Chen Lang didn’t touch his wine. Both stared intently at the screen, captivated.
After more than a minute, the couple on-screen separated. The movie transitioned to the next scene.
Chen Lang let out a breath, about to take a sip of wine, when he noticed Chen Shihan grabbing the remote. She rewound the scene.
The romantic kiss played again.
Chen Lang didn’t say anything.
But after watching it a second time, Chen Shihan rewound it again. And again. The same kiss, on loop.
Chen Lang finally turned to look at her, puzzled. The dim lighting, the screen’s soft glow, the emotional music—all created a strangely intimate atmosphere. As Chen Shihan sensed his gaze, she turned her head to meet his eyes.
Just as Chen Lang opened his mouth to speak, Chen Shihan suddenly punched him in the arm.
“Ow! What was that for?!” Chen Lang rubbed his arm, bewildered.
Chen Shihan scowled. “What are you thinking? I’m your sister!”
“Huh? I wasn’t thinking anything! Why did you hit me?!”
“You were giving me that creepy look.”
Chen Lang rolled his eyes and turned back to face the screen, trying to focus on the rest of the movie.
But Chen Shihan clearly wasn’t done with that kissing scene. She rewound it again… and again.
Chen Lang couldn’t take it anymore.
“Chen Shihan, did you skip dinner or something?”
“I ate,” she replied.
“Then why are you still stuffing yourself with other people’s dog food on repeat? Let’s move on! I’ve eaten more dog food from this couple than I can handle!”
“What do you know? I’m learning techniques from them.”
After watching the same scene several more times, Chen Shihan suddenly turned to stare at Chen Lang with bright, focused eyes.
Chen Lang blinked. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Chen Shihan glanced at the screen and let out a soft hum, tilting her head suggestively—as if hinting at something.
Chen Lang frowned, “If you’ve got something to say, just say it. What’s with the weird meowing?”
Chen Shihan replied with a serious expression, “Try it with me.”
Chen Lang reached out and placed his hand on her forehead. “Are you sick?”
Chen Shihan smacked his hand away. “You’re the one who’s sick! I said try it with me.”
“Try what?”
She turned back to the screen. “Like them. Practice. Otherwise, if you fall in love later and can’t even manage this, people will laugh at you.”
Chen Lang was stunned. “Are you insane?”
Still confused, he walked upstairs, touching the corner of his mouth as he climbed. Once he got into his room, he lay on the bed, his thoughts spinning. Something about Chen Shihan tonight felt… off.
That punch she gave him earlier—that was the only thing that still felt like the old Chen Shihan. But everything afterward? It was like she had been replaced.
Then it hit him. He remembered that night when he went downstairs to get some milk and saw her sitting on a kitchen chair, completely absorbed in her phone. When he tried to sneak a peek, she immediately turned the screen away and ignored him when he asked about it.
At the time, he suspected she might be secretly dating someone.
But now, thinking about what happened tonight, he suddenly sat up straight in bed.
Could it be… Chen Shihan had fallen in love?
Otherwise, why would she drag him into practicing kissing scenes? It made no sense.
His imagination started racing. Maybe she’d fallen for some boy at school. And now she wanted to act like a bold, experienced girl to get the guy’s attention. So, she found him—her “older brother”—to secretly practice with, to make sure she wouldn’t mess up when the real moment came.
That had to be it!
Chen Lang felt like he had uncovered the truth.
Meanwhile, far away under the shroud of night, the dense forest surrounding Longshan Mental Hospital twisted in the moonlight like dancing shadows, eerie and sinister. The hospital stood isolated in the mountains, cloaked in a strange, musty odor.
Inside a dimly lit room, moonlight filtered through the barred window and landed on the figure sitting on the bed—Ye Chen.
He stared up at the moon, his face filled with hate, eyes burning with anger. His fists were clenched so tightly they trembled.
Ever since returning to Nanjiang, everything had gone wrong.
“I, the great Satan, humiliated like this! I swear I’ll return today’s disgrace a hundredfold!”
“Thirty years in Hedong, thirty years in Hexi—”
Before he could finish his dramatic line, Ye Chen suddenly broke down.
“Waaaahhh!!”
He cried.
Snot and tears flowed without restraint.
He felt utterly defeated. And somewhere in his body, a sharp pain burned. He couldn’t control it. The tears just wouldn’t stop.
As Ye Chen sobbed bitterly, a sharp voice suddenly pierced the silence outside the window. It was cold and shrill, like an old crow cackling.
“A grown man, crying like this?”
“To think you’re my apprentice, trained in the Ancient Sacred Medicine. Can’t handle a little setback? What a waste of my teachings!”
Ye Chen froze, stunned by the familiar voice. His crying stopped instantly. He rushed to the window and gripped the iron bars, peering through them.
Under the moonlight, a face appeared.
A wrinkled old man with sunken cheeks and a sharp chin. His skin was marked with age, but a wicked glint flickered in his triangular eyes.
Ye Chen’s face lit up with joy. He wiped his tears and called out, “Master!”
“Master, you’ve come to save me?”
The old man’s shrill voice snapped back, “If I hadn’t come to save you, would you still be in here crying like a baby? You’ve truly disgraced me!”
Ye Chen sniffled, almost tearing up again. “Master, you must help me! I was tricked by the Nanjiang gang!”
The old man snorted in annoyance, then placed his hands on the iron bars. With a surge of internal energy, he ripped them out effortlessly.
He climbed in through the open window.
“Let’s talk outside. This place reeks of foul energy. We need to leave before the guards wake up!”
