Chapter 61: Life Is Like a Box, A Big Box Packs a Small Box:

Xiao Mingyue looked expectant as she started to untie the colorful ribbons that bound the gift box.

As she did, Chen Lang’s thoughts raced.

“I knew this would happen! I knew you wouldn’t follow the plot, but I’m ready for this!” He thought, glancing around the crowd to locate the protagonist.

Xiao Mingyue opened the gift box, ready to show a surprised expression—only to find another box inside.

“Hmm, this must be something valuable to be packed so carefully,” she mused, unwrapping the ribbon and opening the next box. But inside was yet another box.

Xiao Mingyue paused, “…Haha, I’m getting more and more curious!” she said, taking out the next box and starting to unwrap it.

Predictably, there was still another box inside.

Xiao Mingyu: “…”

Meanwhile, Chen Lang spotted the protagonist outside the crowd and breathed a sigh of relief.

Perfect, he thought with a smile.

Originally, Xiao Mingyue was supposed to hit Chen Lang with his gift box, but now it was replaced with this unpacking game—no damage done, perfect substitution! Now, just wait for Ye Chen to come and embarrass him.

“Oh, it’s so precious that I had the gift shop pack it extra tightly. Mingyue, let me help you with that!” Chen Lang offered, taking the box from Xiao Mingyue and continuing to unwrap it.

One box after another was unwrapped, and soon there was a pile of boxes on the ground. The onlookers were dumbfounded.

What was this, some kind of nesting doll prank? Life might be unpredictable, but this was just a big box inside a small box!

As Chen Lang kept unwrapping, the box size shrank from something that required two hands to hold, to something the size of a brick.

Just as he was about to untie the ribbon on this smaller box, his sharp senses detected a stone flying toward him at high speed.

“Here it comes! The plot is perfect! Xiao Mingyue’s character might be off script, but nothing will stop me, the villain, from going through with the plot!”

Chen Lang thought, making no effort to dodge. Instead, he adjusted the position of the gift box so that the stone struck it precisely, then dropped it to the ground.

Chen Lang looked up in feigned anger, “Who threw that?”

Ye Chen stepped out from the crowd.

“It’s you again, Ye Chen! How are you… What happened to you?” Chen Lang started with the scripted lines but trailed off as he got a clear look at Ye Chen.

Ye Chen limped forward, his head bandaged, a Band-Aid on his chin, one arm in a cast and hanging from his shoulder, and the other hand holding a crutch. One leg was obviously lame.

Chen Lang couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing, “Ye Chen, who beat you up like this? And what happened to your hair?”

Ye Chen’s eyes blazed with fury, “Chen Lang, stop playing innocent!”

“What?”

“Don’t pretend like you don’t know! Admit what you did!”

Chen Lang snapped out of his amusement, realizing that Ye Chen thought he was responsible for his injuries.

He thought to himself, “This protagonist doesn’t even need a villain like me to provoke him—he’s raising his own rage level! Well, since we’re stuck together anyway, I, Chen Lang, might as well take the blame!”

“Since you figured it out, I won’t deny it! Yes, I had someone beat you up!” He declared, fully embracing the role.

Ye Chen looked vindicated, “I knew it was you! You know what you did yesterday—you’re a coward! And now you’ve ruined my gift! That was a red diamond necklace I bought for 200 million yuan! It’s called the Heart of the Red Whale! If you lose even a single piece of that chain, you’ll be paying with your life!”

Chen Lang picked up the fallen gift box. The crowd gasped in amazement.

“200 million! My God!”

“There was something worth 200 million right in front of us? I’m going to faint!”

“Young Master Chen is incredibly generous, giving away a necklace worth 200 million yuan!”

Ye Chen heard this and laughed scornfully. “You call this the Heart of the Red Whale? Hahaha!” He quickly snatched the gift box from Chen Lang, “The Heart of the Red Whale? I’ll crush it to powder and see if it’s still so red!”

Ye Chen gripped the box with one hand, straining with all his strength, his inner energy flowing, but his face contorted in discomfort.

Everyone was stunned.

Did this guy think he could crush a diamond with his bare hands? Didn;t he not know that diamonds were the hardest substance in the world?

“Ye Chen, how dare you! Let go!” Chen Lang exclaimed, playing along. “This is worth 200 million yuan… er… ah, this…”

According to the original plot, Ye Chen, empowered by ancient martial arts, would crush the fake red diamond in the box to powder, exposing Chen Lang’s deception and humiliating him in front of everyone.

Although Chen Lang found the plot naive, he had to play his part. To ensure Ye Chen could break it, he had even swapped the real red diamond for a cheap replica.

But in reality, the brick-sized box was only slightly dented.

Ye Chen was already sweating profusely, his expression showing signs of pain. The sweat wasn’t from exertion but from the strain on his injuries, which hurt badly.

The box, which originally could have been crushed with two hands, now hung awkwardly from his shoulder, his broken hand unable to help…
