Chapter 96: Orthopedic Physicians:

Chen Lang rushed upstairs with his phone in hand, activating his special ability and using his divine sense to scan the upper floor. Thankfully, he didn’t sense the presence of anyone else. That allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.

As he ran up the stairs, he heard Chen Shihan call his name again, “Chen Lang~” Her voice was weak, almost tearful.

Chen Lang quickly made his way to the third floor in the dark. Once inside the bedroom, he noticed that Chen Shihan wasn’t there. Instead, the sound of splashing water was coming from the bathroom next door.

Without hesitation, he walked into the bathroom with his phone as a flashlight. In the darkness, he could vaguely make out a figure in the bathtub.

Just then, the power came back on. The blinding white light from the bathroom lamp instantly hit Chen Lang’s eyes—along with the image of Chen Shihan’s bare figure in the tub.

It seemed she had been taking a bath when the power went out. Startled, Chen Lang quickly turned his head away and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Chen Shihan, her voice choked with tears, replied, “Chen Lang, my arm really hurts. I slipped when the power went out… I think it’s broken…”

Chen Lang didn’t know how to handle this situation. He turned his back to her and said, “Can you get out on your own?”

Behind him, he heard the sound of water splashing as Chen Shihan tried to move. “No way… I can’t use one arm… The tub is too slippery.”

“Alright, I’ll call Auntie to come help you. Put on some clothes and I’ll take you to the hospital.” Chen Lang was just about to call when Chen Shihan panicked.

“No, Chen Lang, don’t leave! The bathtub is so slippery, I can’t even stay upright anymore.”

Chen Lang turned his head slightly to look and saw that the bathtub was filled to the brim. With only one working arm, Chen Shihan was unable to support herself and was starting to slide under. At this rate, she might choke on the water, which was far more dangerous than the arm injury.

“Okay, hang in there. I’ll help you out.”

Chen Shihan gave a soft hum in response.

Closing his eyes tightly and turning his head away, Chen Lang stretched out his hand and walked toward the bathtub by memory. Once he reached the edge, he reached out to lift her.

The moment his fingers touched her, he felt a soft, slippery sensation—and heard a quiet gasp from Chen Shihan.

Apparently, he had accidentally touched something inappropriate.

Ugh… This was getting even more awkward. But they were siblings in name, so what was there to be afraid of?

Chen Lang opened his eyes and quickly scooped her up in a princess carry. The sound of water echoed around them as he tried his best to look away from her body while carrying her to the bedroom.

Water dripped all along the floor as he walked.

After gently placing her on the bed, he noticed that Chen Shihan’s face was slightly flushed, and her forehead was covered with sweat—it was clear she was in pain.

Chen Lang checked her arm and, based on his knowledge from Chiyou’s medical skills, he judged that her shoulder was dislocated. No wonder she was in so much pain.

“Relax,” he told her gently. He then applied the technique to reset her arm. As he pulled, Chen Shihan let out a quiet cry, but then the pain noticeably eased.

“You… How do you even know how to do that?” she asked.

Chen Lang stared at the ceiling. “Let’s not talk about that. Where are your clothes? Get dressed so I can take you to the hospital.”

“Oh… they’re on the chair over there.”

He turned his head up to grab her clothes—a shirt and underwear. Since he was trying to avoid looking, he inevitably brushed against her soft skin a few times while helping her dress.

Chen Lang focused hard, silently reciting the heart-clearing mantra the whole time.

Eventually, he managed to help her dress, albeit clumsily. The sweat on Chen Shihan’s forehead had faded, but Chen Lang was now the one dripping in sweat.

After tidying everything up, he lifted her again in a princess carry and carried her downstairs toward the car.

While going down the stairs, Chen Shihan rested her head against his chest. Her arm didn’t seem to hurt as much anymore.

…

At Nanjiang First People’s Hospital, Cheng Jinjin had just finished wrapping a bandage around Chen Shihan’s shoulder and tied it into a neat bow.

“All done!” she said cheerfully.

Chen Lang asked, “Jinjin, how is it?”

“It was a dislocation caused by a fall. Fortunately, by the time I examined her, the joint had already been reset, so it’s not a serious issue. We just took an X-ray. There’s some damage to the soft tissue and ligaments, but she’ll recover with rest.”

Chen Shihan was taken aback. Jinjin? Was she the same Cheng Jinjin?

The eldest daughter of the Cheng family in Nanjiang? The one who had shown up in Chen Lang’s bed that night?

Chen Shihan glanced at her, suddenly feeling a bit wary. This girl was seriously cute.

And when she looked lower…

Even through the white coat, she could tell that Cheng Jinjin was exceptionally well-endowed.

Much more than her…

A sense of defeat welled up in Chen Shihan.

She then glanced at the name tag on the coat.

Cheng Jinjin

Orthopedic Physician, Nanjiang First Hospital.

Chen Shihan quietly looked away.

Though she and Chen Lang were siblings only in name, seeing the word “orthopedic” suddenly made her mind wander to places it shouldn’t.

Cheng Jinjin gave them a list of precautions.

“Try not to move around too much or exert yourself. It’ll take a few weeks of rest to heal properly.”

Hearing that, Chen Lang and Chen Shihan exchanged glances. The same thought flashed through both their minds—

Looks like jiu-jitsu practice is off the table for now.

As they were leaving the hospital, Chen Lang glanced at the neatly tied bandage on Chen Shihan’s shoulder and joked, “Dr. Cheng really has magic hands. Alright, we’ll head back now.”

“Byebye” Cheng Jinjin responded cheerfully.

While driving home, a notification popped up on Chen Lang’s phone. It was a local news update explaining the reason for the power outage. Apparently, a construction site had accidentally damaged a power line, causing a regional blackout. Thankfully, power had now been fully restored.

Reading the news, Chen Lang couldn’t help but feel that Chen Shihan had really been unlucky. The outage lasted just a short while, but she managed to dislocate her arm in the bathtub.

Back at the Imperial Mansion, Chen Lang parked the car in the courtyard, humming a tune as he got out. Just as he closed the door and was about to head inside, he heard Chen Shihan calling his name from behind.

He turned around to see her extending her arm toward him, clearly waiting for him to come back and carry her.

“What?” he asked.

“Carry me inside! Why did you just leave me here?” she protested.

Chen Lang stared at her in disbelief. “Your arm is hurt, not your legs. You can walk, can’t you? Or is it contagious?”

Chen Shihan replied confidently, “Dr. Cheng said I should avoid too much movement. Walking causes my arm to shake, and that’s bad for recovery!”

Chen Lang rolled his eyes. “Stop making excuses. Get down and walk on your own.”

He turned and headed toward the villa. But behind him, Chen Shihan shouted, “I’m telling Mom! I’ll tell her you’re neglecting me!”

Chen Lang sighed in defeat and returned to pick her up in a princess carry. As he carried her into the house, Chen Shihan leaned against his chest with a sly smile.

This was one of the perks of being the “younger sister.” Could the other female leads get carried like this by Chen Lang? No way. This privilege was hers alone.

Come to think of it, this injury might not have been such a bad thing after all. Totally worth it!

Over the next few days, Chen Shihan stayed home from school, officially on medical leave. For her, school was just a formality. With her family background, she only needed a diploma. Working for others was never the plan. And what she truly needed to learn couldn’t be found in a classroom anyway.

But this meant Chen Lang had to suffer.

Chen Shihan completely embraced her role as a patient. She didn’t hold back in the slightest. Even if she was just a little far from something, she’d call Chen Lang to carry her, claiming it was to aid her recovery.

She stopped practicing jiu-jitsu and spent her days watching movies or experimenting with weird recipes.

After just two days of lying around at home, she started getting bored and restless. So she asked Chen Lang to take her out for a ride—not in a car, but on a bicycle.

She didn’t ride herself, of course. She just sat in the back seat, using her good arm to hold onto Chen Lang’s waist as he pedaled them around Nanjiang City, exploring parks and scenic spots.

Her only task was to take out her phone whenever they passed a beautiful view and snap selfies of the two of them.

While Chen Lang did all the work up front, pedaling nonstop, she focused on capturing their “adventure.”

After several days of this, Chen Shihan got tired of sightseeing. Ironically, Chen Lang ended up falling in love with cycling. There was something about the aimless, carefree rides that made him feel unexpectedly relaxed. It gave him a sense of connection to the real world that was hard to explain.

Once Chen Shihan lost interest in going out, she stayed home and started binge-watching TV dramas. Meanwhile, Chen Lang went online and ordered a top-tier bicycle from overseas, deciding he’d go for rides on his own whenever he got bored.

Then, one morning…

Sunlight filtered into Chen Lang’s bedroom as he suddenly sat up in bed, gasping for air. He was drenched in sweat.

He sat there for a long time, shaken. The fear in his eyes gradually faded.

He had just woken from a terrible nightmare.

In the dream, the system had suddenly reactivated and detected that he had failed to follow the plot. Before he could even defend himself, a thunderbolt descended from the sky and transported him to a new world.

He didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to the people here.

And in each world that followed, the plot kept collapsing in bizarre ways. He was forced to reincarnate again and again, trapped in what felt like a nine-layer demon tower, unable to break free.

It was a full-blown nightmare.

Even after waking up, the lingering fear remained. It made him wonder deeply—if the system did reactivate and pull him away again, what would he leave behind in this world?

All these relationships and emotions he had built… he would have to abandon them in an instant.

Because in the end, only he could see the blade constantly hanging over his head.

After thinking for a while, Chen Lang picked up his phone and scrolled through some news to calm himself.

One video caught his eye. On the trending list of the short video platform, Tang Xiaofu’s “Daughter’s Love” performance was still ranked near the top.

Clearly, it had gone viral.

A thought crossed Chen Lang’s mind. He called Butler Xiao Zhang and told him to get in touch with a record company capable of releasing an album.

A few days later, the overseas bicycle arrived.

Xiao Zhang had also successfully contacted a record label.

One morning, in the villa, Chen Lang walked downstairs and saw Chen Shihan lying on the sofa, completely absorbed in a heart-wrenching emotional drama. She seemed to be at the most intense part of the episode, her eyes brimming with tears as she sniffled softly. The coffee table in front of her was already covered in used tissues.

Even when Chen Lang greeted her on his way out, she didn’t respond with words—just lifted her hand and waved absentmindedly.

Chen Lang left the villa, hopped on his new bicycle, and hummed a tune as he rode off to find Tang Xiaofu.
