Chapter 11: The Police Department’s “Social Butterfly,” Jiang Yang!

Early the next morning, Lin Qingqiu arrived at the police station alone.

“So, you suspect your parents were murdered, not victims of an accident?”

“Yes! When the car accident happened, I was still young and didn’t understand much, but now I believe there’s a high possibility that the accident three years ago was orchestrated!” Lin Qingqiu spoke with unwavering determination.

The police station wasn’t busy with any major cases, so there were plenty of officers around. Hearing Lin Qingqiu’s words, they gathered around out of curiosity.

“Go on, get back to work!” Captain Zhao frowned.

In the police station, though such cases were rare, they weren’t unheard of. To be honest, these kinds of cases were the most troublesome. If Lin Qingqiu insisted on reopening the investigation, it would be extremely complicated — three years had passed, and most of the evidence was likely gone.

“Miss Lin, do you have any concrete evidence?”

“No… no evidence, but I’m sure it was my uncle who caused my parents’ deaths…”

Though Lin Qingqiu was emotional, she recounted the entire situation and her suspicions in an orderly manner.

Captain Zhao’s frown deepened.

If it were an ordinary dispute, maybe it could be settled privately. But if what Lin Qingqiu said was true, this wouldn’t just be an accident — it would be murder-for-hire.

In such a serious matter, they had to handle it cautiously.

“Miss Lin, based on your statements… your uncle and his people do have a motive. However, we work based on evidence. We can’t proceed on your words alone.”

“Please tell us everything you know. We will open an investigation, but I have to be upfront… it’s been three years. A lot of evidence may no longer exist. Reversing the case will be extremely difficult, but we will do our best.”

Lin Qingqiu instinctively wanted to argue.

‘Mo Cinian could get such detailed evidence. How could the police not manage it? No matter how vast Mo Cinian’s information network is, it can’t surpass the police’s capabilities, right?’

She was wrong. Not everyone had the advantage of a Collapse Value System — it was like having a god’s-eye view of the world.

While Lin Qingqiu was deep in thought, a boisterous voice interrupted her.

“Master… hehe… have a cigarette.”

“Big brother, have some tea~”

“I ordered 10 kilograms of spicy crayfish, let’s enjoy it~”

At the door of the interrogation room, a handsome young man came in with a bright smile, carrying two large bags of takeout.

His tone clearly showed he was a newcomer, and his uniform revealed he was a rookie trainee police officer.

Jiang Yang had quickly become the social butterfly of the police department. Freshly graduated, he showed no signs of social anxiety.

To him, everyone else at the station were big shots — and he made sure to curry favor.

“Yo, Old Wang, your apprentice is pretty slick, huh?”

“More than slick! Jiang Yang graduated top of his class from the police academy. He’s a certified genius!”

“Hiss… first place in the police academy? That’s insane!”

Jiang Yang waved his hand modestly, “It’s nothing. We’re all colleagues now, let’s work together and aim for a collective first-class merit.”

“Haha, collective first-class merit? I’ve been here for years and haven’t even seen a second-class merit yet.”

The atmosphere in the police station suddenly became more relaxed.

…

“Captain Zhao, why the long face?”

Jiang Yang asked while biting into a sesame bun.

Captain Zhao shrugged helplessly and pointed at Lin Qingqiu in the interrogation room.

He quickly summarized the situation in a few sentences.

“This is just internal family conflict, right?”

“The problem is… Lin Hua is part of the Lin family.”

Jiang Yang raised an eyebrow, “What? Just because he’s from the Lin family, you’re not going to investigate?”

“No… I’m saying people like them don’t leave loose ends. Besides, it was a car accident, and it’s been three years. Reopening the case is too difficult.”

Captain Zhao shook his head.

“I’ll go take a look~”

Jiang Yang smiled and walked into Lin Qingqiu’s room.

“And you are?”

“My surname is Jiang.”

“Hello, Officer Jiang!” Lin Qingqiu sat upright.

“Can you tell me what made you suddenly decide to reopen the case? Did you discover something?”

Jiang Yang’s tone was gentle, and his face wore a warm smile.

Mo Cinian often wore a smile too, but the feelings they gave off were entirely different.

“No discoveries. It’s just that my grandfather passed away recently, and my uncles and aunts have been fiercely fighting over the inheritance. It reminded me of my parents… maybe they were victims of the same kind of family conflict.”

Lin Qingqiu lied!

Or rather, she didn’t exactly lie — everything she said was true, she simply omitted any mention of Mo Cinian.

“Hmm~ reasonable enough.”

Jiang Yang glanced at Lin Qingqiu. He didn’t know why she was lying, but there was no doubt his curiosity was piqued.

“I’ve reviewed your situation briefly. Reinvestigating will be extremely difficult. There was no surveillance at the scene, no witnesses… and the crash site is long gone. It’s impossible to prove whether it was murder or accidental manslaughter.”

Jiang Yang’s words made Lin Qingqiu’s mood sink.

‘Would she really have to… compromise with that man? Or just let Lin Hua and the others walk free?’

No!

She couldn’t!

“You seem very anxious.”

“Yes… a little.”

“Is someone threatening you?”

Jiang Yang’s words made Lin Qingqiu’s heart tremble.

‘How does he know?! Could he be working with Mo Cinian?!’

The flash of panic in the girl’s eyes didn’t escape Jiang Yang’s notice.

“Haha… I’m just kidding. Although I’m not from a wealthy family, I know how brutal power struggles can be. If anyone threatens you, please come to us.”

Jiang Yang didn’t press further.

“Although the evidence is hard to find, it doesn’t mean there are no witnesses. The driver who ran over your parents was recently released. Maybe we can get some useful information from them.”

Just as Jiang Yang was about to continue, urgent voices sounded from outside.

“Captain Zhao, there are two bodies found in the southern district… suspected homicide!”
