Why Be a Villain? Isn't a Shut-in Girl More Appealing? - Chapter 7:
Chapter 7: Xu Linxiu Is Injured
“Come on, let’s go watch the show.” Xu Linxiu rubbed his hands together excitedly as he spoke to Xu Guoan, and the next moment the two of them flashed out of their cave residence together. Soon, they appeared above the cave residence where the spiritual energy fluctuations originated.
Xu Linxiu landed and looked up with interest at the two figures fighting fiercely in the sky.
At this moment, Elder Lin Ming was being completely overwhelmed by Yun Yan. Her mastery of the Azure Cloud Sword Technique far surpassed his, and her cultivation level also pressed down on him. This battle held no suspense at all.
“Yun Yan! I advise you not to go too far! Leave people some dignity!” Lin Ming wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and shouted hysterically.
Yun Yan shot him a cold glance without wasting words and released another powerful sword energy slash toward him.
Lin Ming gritted his teeth and barely blocked it, then viciously bit down on his fingertip and smeared blood onto his sword.
Seeing this, Yun Yan’s expression became slightly more serious.
“Yun Yan… you forced me into this!”
“Already using your trump card?” Yun Yan said with a hint of mockery as she formed a defensive hand seal.
Lin Ming didn’t answer. His left hand released a wave of spiritual energy, and with his right, he slashed the blood-infused sword energy toward the cave residence.
Xu Linxiu looked up at the incoming sword energy. Bro, what exactly is your problem? Why are you suddenly aiming at me? And where did that old man run off to?!
Wait… this sword energy doesn’t seem aimed at me.
Xu Linxiu froze for a moment as he saw the terrifying sword energy shooting toward the cave residence behind him. When he lifted his head again, he saw Song Wanci standing at the courtyard gate.
“Move! Hurry and dodge!” Xu Linxiu’s voice trembled with urgency as he sprinted toward her. Song Wanci stared blankly at him, confused by his panicked expression.
Gritting his teeth, Xu Linxiu tackled Song Wanci to the ground, shielding her beneath him as spiritual energy wrapped around them both. The blood-red sword energy struck them violently, and the explosion echoed for kilometers.
Xu Guoan, who had just rushed over, felt his vision turn red. He had only gone to call the Sect Master to prevent things from escalating further—and returned to find this scene. He had seen clearly that Lin Ming deliberately attacked where Song Wanci and Xu Linxiu stood. Lin Ming must die for this!
“Lin Ming, you’re seeking death!” Yun Yan’s fury ignited as her sword energy lashed at Lin Ming without restraint. Blood-marked wounds appeared all over Lin Ming’s body as he struggled to defend himself in humiliation.
“Sect Master, this concerns my son’s life, and Elder Lin Ming deliberately targeted my son and Song Wanci. I refuse to coexist with him. I ask that Sect Master not intervene,” Xu Guoan said hoarsely to the Sect Master beside him.
Sect Master Ouyang Qing of the Azure Cloud Sword Sect stroked his beard, his deep eyes giving away no emotion. After a moment, he finally spoke. “I came here originally to calm things down. But Lin Ming’s actions violated sect rules. Attacking disciples without cause—this crime warrants death.”
While the two spoke, Yun Yan had already beaten Lin Ming until he was half-dead.
“Yun… Yun Yan!” Lin Ming rasped, trembling. “If you keep hitting me, I’ll really die! I-I know I was wrong.”
He was truly terrified.
Yun Yan had arrived too quickly, leaving him no time to prepare any means of defense. His plan had been to ambush her disciple so she would stop interfering, giving him a chance to escape. He didn’t expect Yun Yan to become even more ruthless after seeing him attack her disciple.
Yun Yan didn’t respond. She sheathed her sword and instead drove her fist straight into Lin Ming’s nose, collapsing it instantly.
Just as she was about to punch through Lin Ming’s heart, Sect Master Ouyang Qing appeared between them. He casually blocked her full-powered strike and smiled gently as he said, “Your disciple and Xu Guoan’s son both survived. Leave him to me for punishment.”
Yun Yan didn’t reply, but she clicked her tongue in annoyance as she pulled her fist back. She had sensed that Xu Linxiu and Song Wanci were still alive, but she wanted to use this chance to kill Lin Ming.
She flashed away toward the destroyed cave residence.
Xu Guoan was even faster and had already reached the dust-filled ruins. With a wave of their hands, the rubble was swept aside.
As the dust cleared, they saw Xu Linxiu bracing himself with both hands, shielding Song Wanci under him.
The spiritual energy barrier he previously raised had been shattered by the sword energy. A deep, bone-revealing wound split across Xu Linxiu’s back.
Song Wanci’s beautiful peach blossom eyes locked onto Xu Linxiu’s pale face for a long moment, and tears suddenly streamed from her eyes.
Yun Yan rushed forward, lifting Xu Linxiu with spiritual energy and placing him gently on a nearby bed. Only then did Song Wanci come back to her senses, hastily wiping her tear-stained cheeks.
Xu Guoan took out a healing pill and fed it to Xu Linxiu, channeling spiritual energy with full focus to help him absorb it.
“He should be fine. A few days of rest and he’ll wake up.”
“Lin Ming has a cultivation level of the 3rd stage Resonance Spirit Realm. Logically, Xu Linxiu at the 6th stage Spirit Condensation Realm shouldn’t have survived that strike at all,” Yun Yan said while staring at the unconscious Xu Linxiu, puzzled.
“Who cares about that? My son’s life was not meant to end today.” Xu Guoan finally let out a relieved breath.
Ouyang Qing, who had been watching quietly, handed another healing pill to Xu Guoan. “Take this and use it on your boy. I will give your family a proper explanation.”
With that, he dragged Lin Ming away like a dead dog.
Song Wanci stared at the unconscious Xu Linxiu, her expression unreadable. He ended up like this because he saved her…
Suddenly, she noticed Xu Linxiu’s fingers twitch. Her eyes widened with joy, but she didn’t manage to voice it.
“He’s waking up?” Yun Yan and Xu Guoan both noticed at the same time, speaking in surprise.
Xu Linxiu felt as if a mountain pressed on him. He forced his eyes open, scanning his surroundings. “Dad… what’s going on now?”
Yun Yan spoke before Xu Guoan could answer. “You saved Song Wanci and blocked that sword for her, then fainted. I nearly killed Lin Ming, but the Sect Master took him away.”
Xu Linxiu blinked and then turned his head toward Song Wanci, who stood silently, saying nothing.
