Chapter 9: The Gap in Information! Gu Zhe’s Strongest Golden Finger!

Many people have heard this saying—being reborn is already an invincible path.

In various artistic works, the reborn either ride the wave of the times and soar to the top, seize a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, or cultivate silently with their foresight until they finally shine.

But in the end, their success always boils down to three words—information gap.

Take Duan Mingdong right now, for example. The way he looked at Gu Zhe was filled with fear and dread, like he had seen a ghost. A ghost that knew him inside and out, that had seen the dirtiest side of him.

Duan Mingdong was a classic example of someone who had lustful thoughts but lacked the courage to act.

It was fine to cling to Song Yihan’s light, but if he actually tried to take advantage of her, he wouldn’t get the slightest chance. After all, he was the “weak” male best friend who needed “caring” from Song Yihan.

If he acted like a normal man and tried anything on Song Yihan, that fragile image he relied on would instantly shatter.

Spending every day beside such a delicate beauty like Song Yihan without being able to touch her had long made Duan Mingdong miserable.

Just a week ago, egged on by his dormmate, Duan Mingdong went to Puchang Street looking for “fun.”

But before their pants were even fully off, a group of uniformed officers barged in and dragged both of them away without giving them a chance to explain.

Not only did Duan Mingdong lack the courage, but he also had no luck. He didn’t even get to enjoy anything and had to struggle desperately to get out of the police station.

It took one of Duan Mingdong’s uncles pulling strings and paying fines just to get the two of them out.

Even now, Duan Mingdong still wasn’t sure if there was a criminal record left behind.

This humiliating event should’ve been taken to the grave.

But in Gu Zhe’s previous life, during a drinking session, Duan Mingdong’s dormmate—angry over unpaid debts—chose to burn the bridge and exposed everything in a drunken outburst.

Of course, the Song Yihan of that life still chose to forgive her good male best friend.

In her eyes, someone as “pure” and “simple” as Duan Mingdong was clearly tricked by bad influences.

That was why Gu Zhe remained so calm and composed now.

He was sure that with this piece of information, he could easily control Duan Mingdong.

After all, whether it was Yang Yan or the entire university, they would do everything possible to protect their own students.

Anything that could be avoided would be. No one would willingly put a “fighting and disturbing the peace” mark on a student’s record—it would only bring shame to the school.

At worst, the school would issue a disciplinary action at the university level.

But if word got out about what Duan Mingdong did… now that would be real fun.

That’s why Duan Mingdong’s grip on Yang Yan’s phone was so firm and unwavering.

Yang Yan frowned, “Duan Mingdong, what are you doing? Weren’t you just accusing them a moment ago? Why don’t you want justice now? Were you threatened?”

Duan Mingdong shook his head, his expression as strained as someone constipated.

“No, Teacher Yang, I just suddenly remembered… I really might have been mistaken. These injuries… really have nothing to do with Gu Zhe and the others.”

Zhao Si and the others exclaimed, “Huh?”

“The police are busy. It’s really inappropriate to bother them with such a small issue!”

Yang Yan blinked, “What?”

No matter how Yang Yan guided the conversation afterward, Duan Mingdong insisted his injuries were from falling on his own and had nothing to do with Gu Zhe and the others.

Definitely not connected to Puchang Street!

Absolutely no relation!

No need to check with the police kind of no relation!

After several rounds of back and forth, Yang Yan pressed her lips together and gave Gu Zhe a deep look.

This student was not simple.

She was sure that Duan Mingdong’s initial outrage was genuine—he must have really been wronged at school.

But after Gu Zhe showed up, why would his attitude do a complete 180? That, she didn’t know.

Since the accuser had already withdrawn his complaint and looked like he wanted to swallow the lawsuit papers, there was no reason for her, the makeshift judge, to keep making things difficult for Gu Zhe.

“No matter what happened, I hope this is the last time we see something like this.”

Gu Zhe smiled and agreed, “Of course! I believe this kind of experience is something Duan Mingdong will never want to go through again in his life.”

“Be more careful next time, Duan Mingdong.”

Zhao Si and the others thought Gu Zhe was talking about being pinned down and beaten in the dorm.

But only Duan Mingdong, whose smile looked more like a grimace, knew that Gu Zhe was deliberately hinting at him.

“Hehe, thanks for the reminder, Gu Zhe.”

Duan Mingdong clenched his molars so hard they nearly cracked, squeezing the words out one by one.

Yang Yan rubbed her temples wearily and waved her hand, “The rest of you can leave now. Gu Zhe, stay behind.”

Once the others left, the office suddenly felt a little empty.

Yang Yan glanced at the handsome boy in front of her.

His jeans were already faded, his white sneakers had clearly been scrubbed many times, and his T-shirt looked like it came from a street stall.

All of it together probably wasn’t worth more than 100 yuan.

Yang Yan sighed softly in her heart.

“Gu Zhe, when you came to register last year, you were the top student in our department.”

Gu Zhe’s fingers trembled slightly, and he gently clenched his fist.

Even after experiencing the highs and lows of his previous life, seeing the hint of sympathy in Yang Yan’s eyes still stirred something in him.

When he entered the university, he wasn’t exactly a favored child of heaven, but he was at least someone who drew attention.

Top scorer in software engineering at Jiangzhou University, recipient of multiple scholarships as a freshman, and already involved in two very promising projects.

Unfortunately, both projects later fell apart.

And the reason?

Gu Zhe had poured too much money and effort into Song Yihan.

He could’ve bought himself a high-end computer a long time ago, but whenever he thought that the money could buy better jewelry for Song Yihan or take her on a trip, he would shelve that idea.

Song Yihan’s shoes had to be designer, her phone had to be the latest model, and her wardrobe had to have the newest seasonal clothes.

Whatever other girls had, Song Yihan had to have too.

What Gu Zhe gave her wasn’t something a regular university student could even afford.

And what did Gu Zhe get in return?

A loving partner’s care, warmth, and companionship?

Support in his field, like a true partner and helper?

No. He got none of that.

Only an increasingly entitled and spoiled Song Yihan who took everything for granted.

Seeing the complicated look in Yang Yan’s eyes, Gu Zhe smiled faintly and said slowly, “Teacher Yang, I’m still that top student in our department.”

“The same Gu Zhe from Jiangzhou University’s software engineering program, the one who can do anything.”
