Chapter 10: He Doesn’t Want Me Anymore—How Am I Any Less Than That Woman?

Seeing Yu Youwei so lost and disheartened, Bai Luo’s eyes flicked with calculation. “Weiwei, are you mad at me for being too noisy earlier? I just wanted to share some fun stories from my life with you. Please don’t dislike me, okay?”

Yu Youwei kept her head lowered and shook it.

“Then… is it that you don’t want me joining your company as an artist?”

She shook her head again.

“Then you’ve agreed to let me join HuanYu Media?”

This time, she slowly lifted her head. The delicate makeup she had carefully applied for their meeting was long gone. Her tear-streaked face had smudged everything earlier. She had gone to the restroom to wash her face, wiping away both the makeup and the tears.

Now, she was bare-faced.

Her reddened and swollen eyes were especially prominent. Bai Luo was startled—not by the fact that she’d cried, but by how unsightly she looked now.

In truth, as the campus belle of Tianhai University, Yu Youwei’s bare face was still stunning. But today, her heart had been completely shattered. She was mentally and emotionally drained. Her once perfectly styled curls had flattened from the water, now sticking limply to her forehead and cheeks, making her look far less glamorous than usual.

“All you think about is joining the entertainment industry?” Yu Youwei asked.

“That’s my dream. I studied art, practiced piano so hard, because I want to become a beloved idol.”

After saying that, he noticed her mood hadn’t improved and quickly tried to soften his tone, “Weiwei, what’s wrong with you? You just stepped out for a while and came back like this. I keep asking and you won’t say. You expect me to guess? I can’t figure it out! Seeing you like this really breaks my heart!”

He stood up, walked over to her, and gently wiped away the tears that had already dried.

“Don’t cry. If you’re feeling upset, you can tell me. Don’t bottle it all up.”

Hearing his words, the emotion Yu Youwei had finally calmed down surged up once more. She tilted her head slightly and leaned into Bai Luo’s chest, her voice breaking as she murmured, “He doesn’t want me anymore. Jiang Yan doesn’t want me anymore…”

“Why… What do I lack compared to that woman?”

Bai Luo raised his hand and gently patted her back, comforting her. “Weiwei is so wonderful. It’s him who didn’t know how to treasure you.”

“As a man, I understand. Once a guy has money and power, he becomes a womanizer. He’s not worth it—not worth your sadness.”

“Don’t cry, Weiwei. I’m right here with you.”

He kept patting her back until his arm went sore. Only then did Yu Youwei start to recover from her pain.

“Thank you, Bai Luo. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t know what to do.”

She realized she’d wrongly blamed Bai Luo earlier. She had even thought he wasn’t as considerate as Jiang Yan. She had truly been foolish.

That jerk Jiang Yan didn’t even leave her a shred of affection. He didn’t deserve to be compared to even one finger of Bai Luo.

If he dared to regret and try to seek her forgiveness in the future… Hmph, just wait and see! She, Yu Youwei, wasn’t someone to be bullied.

“Don’t worry, Weiwei. I’ll always stay by your side. I’m nothing like that heartless jerk Jiang Yan.”

Now that Yu Youwei’s mood had calmed, Bai Luo remembered the real purpose of meeting her today. He seized the moment, “So, can I join HuanYu? Weiwei, will you help me chase my dream?”

“You really want to enter the entertainment industry? That circle is brutal. People get eaten alive—everyone steps over others to climb up. It’s not easy to become famous.”

“It’s okay. I’ll work hard. And you’ll help me too, right? Plus, I graduated from a prestigious university and I have a level-10 piano certificate. Compared to those fake wannabes, I have a better edge.”

“Alright then,” Yu Youwei nodded.

“I heard there’s a talent show about to start.”

“That’s right. Tomato TV is launching Idol Trainee. My company has over a dozen trainees currently training for it.”

“Can you add me too? I’ve got talent, a good look, and I’m just 24—perfect age for debuting in Idol Trainee.”

Yu Youwei gave Bai Luo a skeptical glance. “Most trainees are eighteen or nineteen. You have better options. Pear TV is hosting the Xinghai Cup International Piano Competition. That suits you better.”

Upon hearing that, Bai Luo’s face turned pale. He waved it off quickly, “No, no, I’d rather join Idol Trainee. Honestly, I’ve been practicing piano so much I’ve developed a resistance to it.”

Yu Youwei thought for a moment, then agreed, “Alright, I’ll let the manager know.”

“Yes! Weiwei, you’re amazing. I don’t have anything valuable to thank you with… how about I play you a piece?”

He’d noticed the grand piano in the main hall of Yunjin Pavilion the moment he walked in. It was a luxury instrument, worth well over a million yuan.

He’d been itching to play it—he wanted to look elegant and refined in front of Yu Youwei. His image as a charming prince would surely sweep her off her feet.

Melodious notes soon filled the hall.

Bai Luo sat upright on the piano bench, his back straight, his fingers dancing across the keys. He closed his eyes in enjoyment, the corners of his lips slightly curled into a confident smile.

He could already imagine it—the high-society diners around them falling silent, their eyes drawn to him in awe of his musical talent.

The piece ended.

He had made a few small mistakes, but Bai Luo felt it was still excellent. Just a few notes—those people wouldn’t even notice.

He let out a deep breath, opened his eyes, and stood up.

He waited for thunderous applause to fill Yunjin Pavilion.

…

Silence.

Still silence.

Where was the applause?

Where was the praise?

Bai Luo awkwardly turned in a circle, only to realize—no one was even paying attention.

His face flushed red with embarrassment. He couldn’t hide the frustration as he sulked back to his seat.

Bunch of tasteless rich people. They just don’t know good music when they hear it.

When he returned, he looked at Yu Youwei, expecting to see admiration in her eyes—but there was none.

“Bai Luo, how did your playing get worse?” Yu Youwei asked in confusion.

She didn’t play piano, but she knew how to listen. At every annual family banquet, renowned musicians were invited to perform. She had even heard international piano master Lang Lang live.

So she could still tell the difference.

“Ah… really? I was just a bit nervous and hit a few wrong notes. The rest was fine.”

“Then you really were nervous.”

Hearing his explanation, Yu Youwei didn’t think much more of it.

…

On Jiang Yan’s side, he too had heard and seen Bai Luo’s performance.

As soon as the music started, Mu Wanzhou couldn’t help but snark, “Tsk, what was that? He couldn’t even keep a basic rhythm. Way too stiff.”

Jiang Yan had been guarding himself, but he’d still ended up drinking quite a bit under Mu Wanzhou’s coaxing. His cheeks were flushed, body warm.

“CEO Mu… sure knows her stuff,” Jiang Yan deliberately slowed his speech, feigning drunkenness.

Ever since their deal was finalized, Mu Wanzhou had been subtly urging him to drink more. If he didn’t pretend to be tipsy and find ways to dodge, he really would end up completely drunk—ripe for the taking.

“A relative forced me to learn piano as a child. I haven’t practiced in ages, but the basics are still there,” Mu Wanzhou said.

Though a bit tipsy herself, she was still far more composed than Jiang Yan. Her thoughts and movements remained sharp.

Suddenly, an idea formed in her mind.

“Junior, want to see me show off a little?”

“To witness CEO Mu’s talent… is an honor for me,” Jiang Yan replied slowly, eyes half-lidded.

…
