Chapter 2: Just Explain It Clearly

He knew?

No, how could he have found out about Bai Luo’s existence?

She had only met Jiang Yan after Bai Luo went abroad. There was no possible connection between the two of them.

For a moment, Yu Youwei’s heart was in chaos. She hadn’t deliberately hidden Bai Luo’s existence, nor did she mind if the two ever met, but at least for now, she didn’t want Jiang Yan to know.

It had been two years since graduation.

Jiang Yan had grown from an ordinary man into the owner of a company with monthly revenue exceeding 10 million yuan, even beginning to interact with people from her upper social circle. Bai Luo, on the other hand, had just graduated from Berklee College of Music. In terms of connections and resources, he couldn’t compare to Jiang Yan.

Yu Youwei was afraid—afraid Jiang Yan might send someone to teach Bai Luo a lesson.

But on second thought, what right did Jiang Yan have to do that? Did he even have her permission?

Taking the milk tea her best friend handed over, Yu Youwei nervously took a sip. Su Yu noticed her restlessness and couldn’t help but feel jealous. “What’s wrong, Weiwei? That guy hasn’t even shown up, and you already look like you’ve lost your soul.” She huffed, “I bet he called you saying he’s back just to act mysterious, pretending he didn’t want you to come. Classic move—playing hard to get.”

Scheming man! Su Yu silently added the label in her heart.

Yu Youwei snapped back to her senses, suppressing her nervousness, and playfully poked her friend’s forehead. “Don’t say that about Bai Luo. I didn’t say I was coming to pick him up—it’s just that I wanted to surprise him.”

The thought of finally seeing the man she had longed for over five years made her heart race, excitement flushing her face. Su Yu took in her expression and cursed inwardly. Damn Bai Luo.

Among the crowd, a tall figure in white suddenly appeared—it was Bai Luo. Yu Youwei spotted him instantly and waved her arms excitedly. Su Yu followed her gaze.

Bai Luo stood out easily, not only because of his white clothes but because of his striking good looks. He carried a sleek 37-key electronic keyboard on his back—impossible to miss.

Typical show-off, Su Yu thought sourly. She could tell at a glance that he had dressed up deliberately for attention.

Bai Luo saw Yu Youwei too and quickened his pace. “Weiwei, long time no see! What a surprise! I didn’t expect you’d come to pick me up.”

He was a year younger than Yu Youwei, a fellow student from Tianhai University—her junior. But for certain reasons, he had transferred abroad.

Yu Youwei looked calm on the surface, but her heart was surging. Her fingers nervously clutched the hem of her skirt. The man she had missed for five years was still as handsome, sunny, and gentle as ever. “You haven’t been in Tianhai City for five years. You must not be familiar with the surroundings anymore, so as… a friend, it’s only right that I pick you up.” Her words were disordered, and even she didn’t know what she was saying.

Bai Luo kept his gaze on her and smiled softly. “Five years, and you haven’t changed at all—still so beautiful. No, that’s wrong. You’ve changed. You’re even more charming now, more womanly.”

“You… you too!” The intensity of his gaze made Yu Youwei blush and look away shyly.

“Right, and this is?” Bai Luo finally noticed the girl standing next to Yu Youwei, his eyes flashing with surprise. She was stunning—prettier than most surgically enhanced celebrities—and he could tell she was completely natural.

Here it comes again, that disgusting look. Su Yu frowned but restrained herself from kicking him only because Yu Youwei was beside her. This was exactly why she hated men.

“This is Su Yu,” Yu Youwei said, pulling her friend close and linking their arms affectionately. “My best friend. Xiao Yu, this is Bai Luo, my…” After a pause, she added, “my best friend.”

Bai Luo sneered inwardly. Pretending to be pure again, huh? But outwardly, he feigned hurt. “Oh? I’m just Weiwei’s best friend? That’s a little sad…”

Hearing that, Su Yu gleefully hugged Yu Youwei back and said, “So he’s just a friend. Well, I’m your best friend and your best female friend, so he’s just an ordinary friend.”

“Xiao Yu, don’t be rude. You and Bai Luo are both my best friends.”

“It’s fine, I don’t mind…” Bai Luo said politely.

“Hmph, best friend? Looks like he doesn’t even know it’s your birthday today,” Su Yu said deliberately.

Sure enough, Bai Luo looked surprised. “Ah? Weiwei, it’s your birthday? I—I’m so sorry, I completely forgot! It’s too late now, but I’ll make it up to you later, I promise.”

Yu Youwei smiled softly to comfort him. “It’s fine. We haven’t contacted each other in five years; it’s normal that you don’t remember. Don’t feel bad about it.”

Though she said that, she still felt a little disappointed. After all, who wouldn’t want the person they’ve been longing for to remember their birthday? Unconsciously, her mind drifted to Jiang Yan, comparing the two men.

Jiang Yan never forgot her birthday.

Every year, he planned a thoughtful celebration, prepared gifts according to her tastes, and remembered even the smallest details about her. He was a top student with a sharp memory—of course, he would remember everything about her.

Thinking this, Yu Youwei raised her head and looked at Bai Luo. His skin was pale, and under the restaurant lights, his white clothes made him seem to glow faintly, as if surrounded by a halo. He truly lived up to the title of “white moonlight.”

Even if he didn’t remember, she couldn’t bring herself to blame him.

Su Yu folded her arms smugly to the side, but when she saw Yu Youwei not only forgive him but also comfort him, irritation flared in her chest. She couldn’t stand it any longer and urged, “Let’s go already.”

In the underground parking lot sat a million-yuan Aston Martin SUV—spacious, luxurious, and powerful. The three got in. Yu Youwei took the driver’s seat, Su Yu claimed the passenger side, and Bai Luo, though dissatisfied, had to sit in the back.

Leaving Tianhai Airport, the car merged onto the highway. Silence filled the air.

After the initial excitement faded, Yu Youwei finally remembered the message Jiang Yan had sent her. Turning on autopilot, she stared blankly ahead. It seemed he was angry that she had gone to pick up Bai Luo and missed their dinner. That must be why he sent the breakup message.

Thinking of this, she grew annoyed.

It was just a missed appointment—did he really need to threaten her with breaking up? So petty for a grown man.

Although her initial decision to be with Jiang Yan hadn’t been entirely pure, after five years together, it was impossible to say there were no real feelings. Besides, Jiang Yan had taken good care of her—even her chronic gastritis, which the hospital couldn’t cure, had improved thanks to his careful attention.

Forget it, she thought. I’ll just explain it to him when I get back. If I lower my pride a little, he’ll definitely forgive me.

With that thought, Yu Youwei pressed her lips together, her mind already made up.
