Chapter 3: Mysterious Inheritance

While Hai Dali was staring blankly into the air, Niu Xiao walked to the bedside carrying a food box. He then took out a yellowed book and tossed it onto Hai Dali. “This is the ‘Qi Refining Art.’ Study it yourself.”

Hai Dali’s eyes lit up. He immediately grabbed it and began flipping through it. On the faded cover were three characters that looked like ancient oracle bone script. To his surprise, he could actually read them. They were precisely “Qi Refining Art.”

He turned a few pages.

Inside were not only textual explanations but also diagrams of the human meridians and routes of circulating qi. After skimming through it, it did not seem very difficult. He let out a quiet sigh of relief. He had been worried that he might not even recognize the writing of this world, but that concern was gone.

“Thank you.”

Niu Xiao looked at him strangely. “You forgot your cultivation technique, yet you can still read?”

Only now did Niu Xiao realize the inconsistency. He even began to doubt whether Hai Dali had truly lost his memory.

Hai Dali scratched his head and pretended to be confused. “I don’t know either. When I look at it, it just feels familiar.”

“Strange,” Niu Xiao muttered.

Seeing that Hai Dali did not seem to be faking it, he left.

After Niu Xiao left, Hai Dali followed the instructions in the Qi Refining Art and began trying it out. To his delight, he quickly sensed the “qi” described in the book. He could not help but feel overjoyed.

That’s it? I thought it would be much harder.

It seemed he really was a genius. As for the original owner being useless, what did that have to do with Hai Dali?

Enduring the lingering pain, he got out of bed and shut the door. Cultivation was said to be most taboo to interruption. He did not want his first cultivation attempt to be disturbed and end up suffering qi deviation.

He returned to the bed and carefully reread the Qi Refining Art, pondering every sentence, afraid of misunderstanding anything and harming himself.

The contents were not lengthy. After reading it several times, he had memorized it completely.

Clearing his mind of distractions, he began circulating qi according to the described routes. Soon, he felt a stream of qi forming within his body.

He did not dare to be careless and slowly guided this qi through his meridians as instructed.

As the Qi Refining Art circulated steadily, he suddenly sensed another strand of qi in his chest. The sensation was vague at first, but as the technique continued running, it grew stronger. Only when one full cycle was completed did that sensation disappear.

“What was that?”

Hai Dali looked bewildered and began feeling around his chest. There was no mention of such a phenomenon in the Qi Refining Art.

When his hand touched the twin-dragon jade pendant, he instinctively took it out for closer inspection.

Compared to before, the pendant was clearly more lustrous.

The discovery made him extremely excited. “I knew it. How could a transmigrator like me not have a cheat? This twin-dragon jade pendant must be extraordinary if it came with me into this world. Maybe it even brought me here itself.”

He held the pendant in his palm and studied it more carefully. Two lifelike dragons coiled around a full moon. The scales on their bodies seemed to shift subtly as the pendant moved, as if they were alive. It was dazzling.

He had been willing to spend money on it purely because of its exquisite appearance. It had been love at first sight. He was always someone who knew when to save and when to spend. He could indulge in 288-yuan companionship more than once, but for useless trinkets, even one yuan felt expensive.

“What secret are you hiding?”

He rubbed the dragon scales repeatedly and examined them closely. This time, he noticed something unusual. The patterns on the dragons’ bodies looked increasingly familiar. It seemed each dragon bore a character: “Yin” and “Yang.”

The discovery thrilled him. He felt he was one step closer to uncovering the pendant’s secret.

He tried injecting a strand of inner force into it, but there was no reaction.

He then bit his finger despite the pain and dripped blood onto it, attempting a blood-binding ritual. Still, nothing changed.

He even called it grandfather and ancestor in desperation, but there was no response. His enthusiasm gradually faded.

He began to wonder if he was simply imagining things because he desperately wanted a cheat. Perhaps the pendant appearing more luminous was just his illusion.

With no further discoveries, he pressed the twin-dragon jade pendant against his chest and carefully stored it away, hoping to unravel its secret one day.

He then took out the Blood Recovery Pill.

Looking at the pitch-black pill in his palm, he muttered, “I hope there’s no slow-acting poison in this.”

Without further hesitation, he swallowed it.

Not long after ingesting it, warmth spread through his body. A tingling itch rose from the back of his head and his injured finger.

He looked at his finger and saw the bite wound slowly healing. The pain throughout his body was gradually fading as well.

He was shocked by the pill’s efficacy. Was this the power of a healing pill?

And this was only a First-Grade pill. What kind of heaven-defying effects would higher-grade pills have?

Soon after, an intense hunger surged from his abdomen. He went to the table and devoured all the food Niu Xiao had brought.

After eating his fill, he lazily leaned against the headboard. Only then did he realize he felt uncomfortable all over. Now that the pain had subsided, he could clearly sense the stench clinging to his body.

He found a clean set of clothes in the room and went outside to wash himself.

Fortunately, there was a well in the corner of the courtyard. That saved him some trouble. When the cold water splashed onto him, he shivered, but he immediately felt much lighter.

After washing up, he wandered around the courtyard, curiously examining his new living environment.

“Tsk tsk. I didn’t expect the Chen Family to treat employees this well.”

The small courtyard was about 20 square meters and was occupied by him alone. There were flowers, plants, trees, a stone table, and stone stools. It was quite a pleasant place to live.

“Not bad at all. Seems life here might not be so bad after all.”

He was the type to forget pain once the wound healed.

Not everyone received such treatment. He could live alone in this courtyard because he possessed three spiritual roots and was considered worth nurturing, and because he had flattered Chen Muxue very effectively.

That was also one of the reasons others disliked him.

They were all minor guards.

Why did he receive better treatment?

Just because he knew how to flatter?

After his excitement subsided, Hai Dali began thinking about his future path.

Going out to seek opportunities?

He dismissed that immediately. He knew his own limits. If he dared venture out, grass might be growing tall over his grave by next year.

Switching to another force?

That did not seem ideal either. The Chen Family was already one of the strongest forces in Qingfeng City. Even if he joined a larger force, someone of his mediocre talent would not be valued.

It was better to lie low within the Chen Family for now. At least here, he seemed to have some minor advantages.

The original owner had been a shameless flatterer who pleased the second young lady. Why couldn’t Hai Dali do the same? He was quite skilled at flattery too.

“Mm-hmm…”

As he thought about it, drowsiness washed over him. He shook his head. “Strange. Shouldn’t I feel more refreshed after a bath? Why am I sleepy again? Well, there’s nothing to do anyway. I’ll take a nap.”

He did not know how much time passed before he slowly opened his eyes. Everything around him was white and empty, except for a patch of golden light floating above.

The bizarre environment filled him with panic.

“Where have I ended up now?”

Please don’t mess with me like this. He had just begun adapting to life in the Chen Residence. He did not want to be thrown into another unknown place.

After calming himself, he examined the golden light. It consisted of countless tiny characters. However, they were arranged chaotically and could not be deciphered.

Staring at them for some time, his eyes began to sting and tears streamed down his face.

Yet he did not give up. He continued staring at the tiny characters, convinced they were something extraordinary that he could not afford to miss.

“Heaven and earth had yet to separate, the universe was in chaos, yin and yang were undivided…”

Just as he was about to lose consciousness, he faintly heard something, but he no longer had the strength to think about it.

At that moment, the entire space began to tremble.

The golden characters suddenly flowed toward his mind like a torrent.

The sudden change caught him completely off guard. Before he could react, he lost consciousness.

After an unknown period, he gradually regained awareness. A violent pain exploded in his mind, causing him to clutch his head and roll on the bed.

“Ah! Damn it!”

The agony made him feel as if he might die in the next moment.

Fortunately, the intense pain subsided after a while. He curled up and gasped for breath, utterly confused about what had just happened.

In the next instant, a cultivation technique surfaced in his mind—”Grand Yin-Yang Unity Art.”
